Greatest day of my life. 10 weeks of straight hell and i was smiling the entire time from when we started marching cadences to getting that ega in my hand and being called a marine for the first time
Corpsman belong to the Navy to be sure. However, to many of us, although they wear naval uniform and rank, our beloved Docs will always belong in the Corps.
My nephew was did his boot at San Diego. He said there is no way to describe the crucible unless you go through and the feeling you have once they put that globe and anchor in your hand. He said he cried. One of the drill instructors told him he cried also the day he got his.
I salute my son, 14 years 3 tours in Fallujah, god and myself always look out for him, it's not easy for him soo his grandmother asked me to look after him and I will, love y'all son, dad
I’m joining when I turn 17 or 18 I’m in rotc right now so I’m preparing to go through basic and what lies ahead. Semper fi to all Marines who fought, bleed, died, and endured the road they took for their country, family, and the growth of becoming a better person and thank you for your service to any service member in the comments
Vic Kay: In your own way, you are as much of a Marine as he is! You have the toughest billet in the Corps, I.e. Marine wife. God love you! MSgt. Stephen Walter USMCR (Ret.) L/3/25
I was blown away when I found out that the statue and photo of the famous flag raising was not the original participants. Apparently 5 other Maines and one Navy sailor raised the original smaller flag earlier that morning on the peak. It was decided that flag was too small so their was a 2nd raising. It's this 2nd raising by 6 Marines that became famous. This group did not come under fire while raising the flag. The original participants missed out on the fame that came from this moment in history. The same photographer filmed both flag raisings. The 2nd flag came from a Navy ship off shore. The goal was to have a flag big enough so that it could be seen from the far distance.
alot has changed since I've been out. L company used to be the drop outs and sicks. while in bootcamp we only used the parade slings, and when wearing deserts your sleeves were rolled.
Not sure if your going to boot camp at San Diego or Parris Island. I graduated boot camp way back on 28 December 1973, and it was cold on Parris Island. So that mean no "Sand Fleas" If you're going to San Diego, Ive been good weather in December. Stay safe and Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergeant and greetings from Charleston, West Virginia.
I wanted to enlist in the Marine Corps because I felt that I would become a better citizen and do my part to defend our country. Instead my dad told me he wanted me to go to college. I will never forgive myself for not serving my country.
My parents told me the same thing, go to college, you are not enlisting. That same year they asked me what I wanted for my 18th birthday. I told them I wanted my birth certificate and social security card. My recruiter says if you won’t get those for me, then he will help me to do so. So I ended up getting those for my 18th birthday and left for MCRD San Diego. Seeing the person I became, they look back and they are glad I did it.
Brother, that’s me up there. They’re saying Gunnery Sergeant because they just earned the title Marine and they rate to address me by my rank. We’re still Drill Instructors killer.
After the Crucible, recruits become Marines and everyone is addressed by their rank. The DI's become mentors for the last few weeks. It's not like back when the first time you were called Marine was at graduation; it's been that way for a while now.
I left home an arrogant know everything teenager. The moment I stood on the yellow footprints I knew I made the right decision. 11 weeks later I was a man. 12 months after that I was in my first of many full on fire fights and at the age of nineteen after a grueling battle that lasted 36 straight hours I was so well trained that it seemed easy. I was home on leave a few months after that partying with my high school buddies on a college campus and I realized I got a much better education, was getting paid and had no debt an so much pride it was hard to remain humble. That was when Reagan was the commander in chief. Under Biden and Obama I told my sins not to go into the military because they had no clue how to use the military and would spent your life for their politics and sleep like a baby...... It is amazing how time have changed
My husband is enduring the crucible right now & will become a Marine tomorrow! I’m so excited & proud of him. ❤️
Amazing!
OohRah!
assuming he made it through i’m proud as well. we can always welcome new marines to the family.
@@dumbassretard6518 he did💜 I’m ready to be on base together now
While you're fucking the mailman.
This speech shows why the USMC is untouchable .
My nephew is in the Crucible right now and will join the mighty Marines tomorrow.
Oorah! how did it go?
I will never forget that moment. I was standing right under that tree straight ahead when I was given my EGA. Chills, man.
Thankyou for your service, Marine!
I was under there too.
Thats freaking hardcore man. Respect for all these guys. From a grateful American citizen.
Goes for me too. I hope respect from the son and grandson on both sides of three USAF Airmen is acceptable
I remember crying like a fucking baby during this. Crazy emotional day
I feel like I don't deserve to witness this moment but am still glad that this was uploaded.

No other branch comes close. God Bless the Marine Corps!
Five Marines and a Navy Medical Corpsman GET IT RIGHT FIRST SERGEANT
It's crazy that history took so long to correct that .

Even though I was in San Diego and was given my EGA on top of The Reaper, i still respect South Carolina's Crucible.

Did you join?
Brought a tear to my eye . Semper Fi .
Well said, 1SGT. -Very well spoken and very inspirational.
Hear them cry. They know they've made it, but making it is only half the battle.
My son is at MCRD right now and is leaving for Camp Pendleton tomorrow!
Get your facts straight.
One of those guys was a NAVY Corpsman.
He is correct. John Bradley was a navy corpsman but he did not raise the flag! That has been proven in the most recent study. All six were marines.
@@bobsac6201 so the corpsman isnt in the statue ?
Makes so proud to be a United States Marine for "Life" served 5 Oct 73 to 4 Oct 77. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergeant.
