I cried the day I became a Marine, I remember being outside the barracks that morning. Later that day we marched across the parade deck. I couldn't believe it man! I was a Marine. That was over 30 years ago, and I still cry when I think about it...

I'm three years late to reply, I graduate highschool in December I am currently losing weight and studying for meps, once I become poolee, I'll be off to MCRDSD after a week or two after my graduation. I told myself that I knew I won't be the same and to enjoy who I am right now because I will be reborn once I earn the title of Marine

@@atreussonofhippodamia9182 You can do it. Both of my boys are Marines. Older of the two wasn't pudgy but, slightly shorter and had more meat on his bones than his baby brother who is 6 ft-1in and lanky. He was all muscles and very fit the day of graduation. Same for his baby brother. Went in lanky but came out fit and muscular. Whatever your weight, just know, you will be whipped into shape

Absolutely. We finished the Crucible on November 16th, 1997. That Sunday morning...I'll never forget it. I actually had a partially torn hamstring I was hiding and one of my good platoon mates Pvt. Gamez helped me up the Grim Reaper. Getting that EGA pinned on my chest when some members of my own family didn't think I'd finish...it just meant the world to me. Those tears tell a real story and those young Devil Pups deserve props for enduring, especially in this new world. It takes something different to still WANT to be a Marine.

Each one of you voluntarily signed that dotted line, raised your right hand, swore an oath to the Constitution, and earned your place as a US service member. We all like to poke fun at opposing military services or at different military career fields, but at the end of the day, we each have a job to do and WE DO IT WELL!!! Graduated Nov 1983. We had a tiny guy just over 5 ft tall. EVERYBODY took turns taking some of his weight. He was barely 110 lbs, so extra 10 between everyone cut his weight to an acceptable ratio. He was the same dude to take the firewatch of others helping. The Obstacle course on a short dude is entertaining, to say the least.

I wasn't addressed as "Marine" until graduation. That came on December I, 1978. We also didn't have the crucible. Second phase was at Edson range and San Onofre. My FMF unit was Aco. 1/1.

You guys don't seem to understand how important tradition is to Marines. Not to mention if the media is going to do a story on the Marine Corps, all of the information they are reporting should be correct. Hell, if they're going to do a story at all, the information should be correct...but we all know that's a long shot.
