We've got an especially in-depth workbook this week, including the usual tab and notation and performance pointers. Additionally, we've also got the melody and lyrics written out above the bass parts, so you can check the basic grid alignment or juxtaposition. AND we've included some basic warm-up exercises for voice to get you started (incl. some 'quick warm-up hacks' when you don't have time).

Would it be possible for you to feature Melvin Gibbs on SBL?
@@adamwalcott_official We can definitely add him to the list. Whether we can get him in person himself, we'll have to see. There are always so many other factors that play into that. >_
Nice one. I always liked Phil Lynot when a teen, and still do.
I did the steps to download the annotations and it never downloaded, I spent 20 minutes on the page waiting
As a bassist/vocalist, we definitely need more of this content!â€
I agree
More of this content, please. Being able to sing at least backup is key for getting more gigs!
This is one of, if not THE, best SBL videos so far!! Excellent and fun.
Yeah, exceptional
Silly Love Songs has a tragically underrated bass line
So true! I love this baseline đ
Thereâs also a version with Louis Johnson on bass. đ„ czcams.com/video/RN6lWjN0ups/video.html
@@pop_polizei I also love that version! Thank you for sharing!
Bonus points for John Taylorâs solo in âBroad Streetâ!
What a classic.
Paul didn't just play bass... he created GREAT bass lines. He was the most important rock musician of the 20th century.
His bass playing is a song within the song.
I'm not sure that 'important' is appropriate. He was one of many legends of his time. Certainly not the greatest
Wow. Sharon, what a superstar. Love the singing - and of course bass playing! Fool on the hill is just magic.
I don't sing and have no intention of trying. It's all I can do to remember my Bass part. This video was so refreshing and massively entertaining. Whoever dreamt it up, go to the top of the SBL class. Brilliant!
Woohoo! Most of the credit goes to Sharon Renold - the bassist on screen - for writing, filming, recording and editing it. XD The rest of the content team was happy to contribute in whatever ways they could, though.
@@devinebass Does Sharon have a Twitter or Instagram account?
Yes Scott, where did you find her?
@@rennymc Her IG handle is @sharonrenold! Don't think she's active on Twitter.
@@Shred_The_Weapon Haha, Sharon's one of our video editors on the team!
Thank you, super cool singing & playing Sharon ! Also great to see Mr. Ian in the video !
Thanks for tuning in dude!
That was such a fun video! As a bassist who also tries to sing a bit sometimes I enjoyed it a lot :-) You sing great! Very in tune, lots of forward focus (bet you cut through the mix like a japanese butcher's knife!), you also have some soulful vibe to your voice when singing softer, and your harmonies are top notch! And Ian's lows, WHOA! Those lowest notes have almost Zappaesque quality to them. Your duet was absolutely stellar â€ïž The world needs more videos like this!
I hope folks at Berklee and any music school are taking notice and holding this up as a fabulous example of how someone can launch from school into a stunning career in music. I love all that you're doing and can't wait to see what you choose to do next.
What a stellar performance. Very vibrant. You both represented the works of Sir Paul McCarthy and the Beatles exceptionally well.đđ„â
Iâm soo happy I watched this to the end! Great job with all the covers, and thanks for the advice.
Awesome dude! Thanks for checking out the video!
The beauty of CZcams is you can see Ms. Renold putting these lessons into practice 14 years ago. Rock on kid.

Of the three instruments I play (bass, drums, and guitar), I find it most difficult to sing while playing bass. Many of the bassline's syncopations don't match with more straight ahead vocal parts, causing me to either match the syncopation with my voice, or straighten out the line. As mentioned in the video, I generally favor simplification of the bassline to ensure the voice is on point. Side note: I want that Warwick!
LOVING THIS!!! "You Never Give Me Your Moneyâ was a great way to wrap it up.
đ§Ąđ§Ąđ§Ą
I'm so glad!!! It was a blast!!
â€ïžâd that team effort on âYou Never Give Me Your Money.â đ„łGreat job. Thatâs one of âthoseâ Beatles tunes that always punches me in the gut for some reason.Bothđđšđ»
That duet was really beautiful!
Your voices blend really well together!
Sharon, youâre killing it. Thank you
Could listen to her sing/play all day
yes please
I couldn't.
@@Syncop8rNZ you must be hearing impaired..
We need way more Sharon! She is outstanding!
This video is sooooo good, this is the standard for content and no other channel gets close.
So great to hear Darryl!
Don't know how I missed this one. The prep that went into this must have been immense. Great job Sharon!
Love this Ladies videos. Her style and perspective on Bass is great !
Thanks Judy! đ§Ąđ§Ąđ§Ą
Shaz thank you for having me on your amazing video!!
THANK YOU FOR BEING AWESOME AS USUAL đ€©đ€©
Love this lady ! What a shot of adrenaline for SBL. And great premise for a bass vid.
That video made me so happy. Incredible job. I laughed, I cried, I applauded with joy. Wonderful, thank you
She absolutely killed it! đđ»đđ»đđ»đđ»
Sharon is a master musician! Great playing, great singing and fun content! Thanks, Sharon!!!
Big up Marius!
That was just pure joyful entertainment right there! Thanks you 2!
Wow, this channel is getting really awesome.
So great to hear you're enjoying the progression of the channel dude!
@@devinebass Hey, I'm also enjoying your podcast channel, so much insight plus the ins and outs about basses. I wish I could of had something like this 40 years ago. Keep the good stuff coming dudes!
@@devinebass Hey I got another classic hit for a sing and bass: FYC Johnny come back home.
THAT DUET WAS AMAZING. LOVE IAN WITH THE BASS VOCALS AND BASS VI SOLO.
SHARON'S COMPING ON THE WARWICK WAS SICK AS WELL.
NEED AN ALBUM OF YOU TWO!
đ§Ąđ§Ąđ§Ą
in love with the all the stuff you do at SBL đ often when creators expand, they loose the original vibe that people love about the channel. With you guys, it feels like you made a great channel so much better! â€
So great to hear dude! đđ»đđ»đđ»
charming. The duet especially
Loved it. What a fun ending. Bravo.
đ§Ąđ§Ąđ§Ą
Loved this video! Great info Sharon and the duet at the end was worth the wait.
Big up Brad!
One of the greatest bass videos of all time! I simply love it, love them!
The duet achieved all the things music should. It made me happy, feel inspired to want to play with people again, nostalgic and entertained. To say, âI loved itâ is an understatement. Seriously, Cheers!
One of the best vids I've seen from SBL.
Fantastic! I've always wondered how somebody like Chris Squire could play bass and sing at the same time and now I know the answer is just... practice. Thank you, Sharon, for that most insightful and enjoyable lesson. If you were to record an album full of Beatles songs like that, I could listen to it all day.
đ§Ąđ§Ąđ§Ą
AWWW. Thank you!! đ§Ąđđ
Another great video from Sharon.
On " Something" Paul is credited with the backing vocal so presumably the harmony in the B section. What makes that interesting is how different the two basslines are. The A section when he isn't singing is simpler but much less linear than the much more complicated but more linear B section. I find that the linearity often makes more of a difference than how complicated it is. You often find Paul's bass lines have the less linear pieces in between vocal lines.
This is a really insightful observation. Thank you for sharing!
More More More!!!! This young lady is such a joy to watch and "Talented"...forget about it!!!
You are the best addition to these postings. You bring a whole different vibe and you are so talented and funny.
Easily your best video ever! I had to watch the duet twice. Listened through my Raycon earbuds and OMFG!
That last duet was insane! Well done!!
Has to be one of the best videos on this channel! Well done.
"You Never Give Me Your Money" reminds me of Mark Twain's joke about New England -- "if you don't like the weather, wait a minute."
Your rendition of "You Never Give Me Your Money" was awesome
Goodnight Tonight by Wings (with Macca on bass) has also one of his coolest bass lines of all time!
The video is ace as well!
This is SO ENJOYABLE! And instructive!
Shroon. What a floof! How did you get so cool. What did you eat? Ending song with IAN made me Uber happy. Ian - I canât wait to meet you with the Renolds some day! Hugggggs and omg. Canât wait for the rest of this series!!!! Wallalalalaaa â€â€â€
Annette!! Thank u and canât wait to see the show and meet u as well!
Omg my favorite people meeting. Brb gonna go cry
One of my favorite SBL videos! So clever and really great content.
More of this please!!!!!!! Love it.
A-MAZING! This is the best video SBL have done. Amazing performances! BRAVO!
Well done! You've touched on a subject that is very important to us weekend warriors. "Everybody plays, Everybody sings!"
I want more!! This video rocks hard!!
Singing feels underrated, it is just funny and kinda satisfying to sing songs you like whatever how good your voice is
đŻđŻđŻ
Loved this âŠ.binging on Sharon content. Sheâs a lot of fun (and talent).
Silly Love songs is the perfect example of singing over a phenomenal bass line.
I love this! As a bass player with aspirations of singing as well, this is the kind of thing I want to work on! Please keep doing content on this topic. Bravo, SBL!
Yes Joe! Thanks for tuning in!
you are awesome! Scott - this is one of the best of SBL - hire this lady full time
đ§Ąđ§Ąđ§Ą
Best bass video I've seen in a LONG time! And LOVE the "Bass VI" solo!
Ian singing and playing was the secret motivator at getting this video out.
Great vid! I will be watching this one again for sure. Keep up the great work!
Awesome dude! Thanks for supporting!
This video means so much to me.
This is the best video ever!!! The Calab at the end!
This is awesome!!! Please do more of these
so much fun! thanks
Yet again you hit it out of the park. Great subject and well executed. Thank you, I look forward to re-watching this with the workbook
Thanks for tuning in David!
Awesome. Thank you for this
I love it! This video inspires me so much to keep going and practice! One day, i want to be able to do this. It is the creative outlet I have been craving for years but didnt fully know or understand the feeling. THANK YOU!
OMG you need to do more videos, please? !!! Awesome job!!
I totally love her voice!!!!
Awesome job & great songs!
MORE OF THIS PLEASE!!! AMAZING FORMAT! And what an incredible talent and skills these two've got, oh wow! THANK YOU FOR THE FRESHENESS...
Thanks for watching Daniel! đ„đđ»
Great job. Good idea for a series.
Sharon - you nailed it! đđđđđđđ Loved everything about this video - most of all how your joy showed through while you were playing/singing these examples. I could see it in your previous SBL videos but it really showed through on this one - YOU HAVE SOME MAD SKILLS! - add to that the killer rendition of You Never Give Me Your Money that you and Ian did!!! Bravo! Keep 'em coming! P.S. When you played the slow version of Paperback Writer it was uncanny how everything was spot on in sync - it was better than using the slowdowner!!!
That video was 100% fun! Enjoyed it!
Excellent episode, great hommage for a great musician, excellent performance by Sharon lovely voice too.
Thank you for the nice vocal/bass lesson! Iâm working on it.
Wow! Amazing video, thanks
That Höfner tone is perrrrfect!
Nice job! Best bass / singing I have heard in a while!đ
Oh, that was sublime !
Great video! Singing is one skill. Playing bass is a separate skill. Singing & playing bass at the same time is a 3rd skill.
Superb Sharon! Thanks so much from the UK đđ
Big up Steve!
Love it! Thanks folks... I needed this today.
đ§Ąđ§Ąđ§Ą
What a great video! I loved it!
Wow that was so fun to watch. And wat was that for a lit performance at the end đźđâ€ïž
Thx so much! this is what ive been struggling with for the past year!
Loved this video!!!
đđ»đđ»đđ»
You have an excellent voice! Great video!!!
Wow, this is fantastic and super helpful
Thanks for this video! I sing and play, but rarely have done them together. People like Sir Paul and Geddy Lee (among others) have always amazed me. "Fool On the Hill" seems like a good place to start. Some Beatles songs are a little high in my vocal range.
Pure gold!â€
I bought myself solid body ubass( a side step from my other Ukes) This awesome gal will be my inspiration. You rock sister. Thank you for sharing your gift xxxxx
I thoroughly enjoyed your video - thanks!
Great video, for Hofner users he uses the switches, 2 up middle down. He tries to adjust his tone to the point where it hides the attack of his picking. And make sure you have flats on it. Pyramids if you want what Paul uses.
great format. thank u! )
Even George Harrison said he has no idea where Paul came up with the melodies.
I agree .
As far as bass lines from song to song, every time I play a song, be it my own or not , I hear/play something just a little bit different. No rhyme or reason, just comes out that way. A tad different only adding/subtracting pick ups and inflections.
Great job! Informative and entertaining!
