  • What is going on everyone? Leon checkin' in and we are at it again with another video!
    In today's video we will be doing a tutorial & review of the Nova Launcher app.
    Nova launcher is very extensive in customization options which also makes it overwhelming.
    This is why I wanted to create this tutorial.
    Nova Launcher, created by TeslaCoil, is available as a free version and a paid version called Nova Launcher Prime.
    That being said, you can experiment with the free version of the app before purchasing prime.
    For this tutorial, I’ll be using Nova Launcher Prime to demonstrate full customization potential of the app.
    When purchasing the prime version, the free version also has to be installed for functionality.
    So what is a launcher and what makes Nova’s variant great?
    A launcher is a software skin placed on top of Android to alter a devices user interface.
    Nova does this with the added benefit of being highly customizable.
    I’m currently using Nova on a Pixel 5 with Android 11 and a Lenovo Tab M10 Plus with Android 10.
    As always, I only feature products or services I buy or would like to buy.
    This gives the content more credibility and appeal because we feature items that interest me and change the way we live.
    Don’t have time to watch the whole video? We are now a podcast that you can find on multiple platforms by searching for “Pixels Cracked.”
    You can also support the podcast by downloading the anchor app and making a monthly donation on that platform.
    And if you are listening to this on a Podcast, you can find the CZcams channel by searching for Pixels Cracked as well!
    All things said… Let's go ahead… And get into it!

    Man, this is the type of tutorial I've been searching for since I just purchased a new device. I used to use Lawhchair but my desired icons are no longer completely supported. They work but not as fluidly or as well as in the past on my old device. So, I've been researching various launchers and Nova was one I'd briefly tried a couple of years ago before finally settling on Lawnchair. So, it was at the top of my list of possibilities. I happened upon your video and it, as I stated earlier was just what I was looking for to give me a leg up regarding getting started with Nova. Just wanted to thank you and let you know I've subscribed to your channel. Stay safe.

    Great job with the "knowledge" and very nicely put together. I'm wondering if you or your viewers can help me out... Here's the situation. In my car, I installed what is basically a 12.1" ANDROID screen (radio head unit). The unit itself is working fine, but when I downloaded the SiriusXM amp, in order to log-in/sign-in, you have to press the button which is located in the upper right corner of the screen...and that's the problem. I can't press the button because it's layered behind some other buttons from the home screen. Is there a way to shrink the SiriusXM launce page down a little bit in order to see the entire image (sign-in) area? Looking at this video, I was thinking that using NOVA might be the answer??? If so, what do you suggest I try? The system that I have has NOVA pre-installed as one of the apps. Honestly, I never heard of NOVA until watching your video. Lots of learning to do...cool stuff!

    • @TechCrackedWeekly
      @TechCrackedWeekly  Před 2 lety

      Hi,
      I'm not sure of this Nova on smartphones is the same as the Nova on your vehicle, but if it is you may be able to change the grid.
      That may change the size of items and make the fit on the display properly so you can access the app you need to.
      If all else fails, I'd check for an option in settings.
      It sounds like you may have Android Auto. I currently don't have this, but I wish I did to help you out. 😐

I'm totally new to Nova Launcher and I would definitely like to customize my Note 20 Ultra. I bought this phone just so I could make it to look like I want...when I want to. Hi Patrick,
      It seems that Prime piggy backs off of the free version.

    I love nova launcher prime ive been using it for years. However, the 1 thing i cant figure out is how to use split screen on my pixel 8 with nova. My stock launcher keeps crashing when i try to enable split screen even though im using nova. Probably because its built into the stock launcher which sucks but aside from that i love it.

    Great video. Haven't used this launcher but very eager to. I currently use a Galaxy S20+ 5G. After I'm satisfied with my setup and do a backup, will I be able to restore it, say to an S22 Ultra (when the S23 Ultra comes out) and then modify it to better make use of the larger screen size?

    • @TechCrackedWeekly
      @TechCrackedWeekly  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Georgiejr69!
      That's a great question! I have downloaded a backup on a current device and have restored it on that same device.
      However, I have never tried transfering a backup to another device, so I'm not sure if this is possible or not.
      But, generally what I do when I receive a new device is copy all the settings from the old device into the new device manually (this is fairly easy to do and doesn't take much time bacause you've done a majority of the hard work on the old device).
      I then make small changes to the launcher depending on the new device's characteristics like the screen ratio.

    • @TechCrackedWeekly
      @TechCrackedWeekly  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi R W,
      I did get it up and going and it was working fairly well.
      However, once I heard of the Z Fold3 and how much better the tech would be over the original Z Fold and Z Fold2, I moved to this newest foldable.
      The Lenovo tablet worked well with little issues being performance and having to constantly connect to my phones hotstop.
      The Z Fold3 serves as a tablet and eliminates small unnecessary steps like that.
      In fact, one of my newest videos is using the Z Fold3 for infotainment.
      However, those basic principles can also be used for a GPS capable tablet as well. 🙂

      Hi Phyllis,
      You can always try it out and see if it works. If it doesn't, from my experience, you can go back to your original launcher (Samsung One UI) and your original layout should still be the saved. 🙂
      Basically, the launcher just lays over your original launcher, making it easy to revert back. 🙂

      See, I wanted to know how to have a quick access point to a deep Android phone Setting. So I have Nova, and I can bring it up, and AFAICT I don't want to do anything more with ITS settings, even as cool as they are with transitions and everything else. 1. Open NOVA Settings app
      2. Select the category App Drawer
      3. Scroll down to the category "Apps" and select Hide Apps
