Chunks of meat and a bit cow skin fat... then fried as they turn their color different. . Then the most amazing part happens as i add a spoon of a tomato pasta/ ketchup and same amount mayo.. let it fry at medium lev gas.. then soaked beans but again huuuuhhhh... beansss... then after a time mixing chopped garlic and sliced peppers then water... it shud have a bit sour taste and thick soup lol.. but again be rrrrreally careful for the beans. . OMG watched your video this morning - I am in Canada and I have already passed along your video to my sister in Spain - I got a new secret - woo hoo - you can cook chick peas from dry in slow cooker - it has worked beautifully - can't stop taste testing. this was news to me! is it safe to assume it might work with beans too or too much to hope for - wow and wow and thanks - so glad I stumbled on your video. I did wonder about putting the salt in too early as you had mentioned in another part not to salt so waited until it was bubbling before adding.

    • @CookingCompanionTV
      @CookingCompanionTV  Před 8 lety

      +crossanbrown thank you and welcome! YES you can use the slow cooker for beans! Always use the low setting. Oddly, I found info on salting for cooking beans but not when I specifically looked up chickpeas. You were wise to pick up on that and salt later in the process!

    • @CookingCompanionTV
      @CookingCompanionTV  Před 3 lety

      Hey Ron! I think you should use cooked beans, since canned beans are cooked and ready to eat. The recipe will have accounted for that. The dried beans won’t expand that much when they cook, but to be safe, I’d cook one cup of fried beans for each cup of canned beans. Then measure out what you need and use leftovers in a salad or freeze them.

    • @CookingCompanionTV

      Adding the salt at the end can help the beans soften, but yes, you can skip the salt and oil. You might need to cook them a little longer, so just check them and keep cooking until you like their consistency.

      Hmmm...if you used olive oil or seasonings in the cooking process, they could have been rancid. It's possible the chickpeas themselves aren't good any more. I've yet to experience the bitterness & I can't find anything in my resources to address that! Maybe someone else can contribute to a solution, but I don't have a definitive answer.

    Jenna, I have a bag of dried chickpeas that I bought a couple of months ago because I'd been buying canned ones with no sodium to feed mainly to my dogs as healthy treats and the cans cost over 2 dollars each! But I love chickpeas too! It's just that I work all the time and never get around to soaking them overnight, let alone cooking them afterward. Honestly I wasn't sure how to go about it. But then I saw your video and the slow-cooker method so I have a question. Is a crock pot a slow-cooker and would that work? Given my usual time frame the slow-cooker method would work best for me but all I've got is a crock pot. I know I could try it out without asking or typing this but I just want to be sure of what I'm doing! There's no time to waste in my world.

      ::shrug:: I’ve never sent the beans to a lab for testing.

      @@CookingCompanionTV I would just assume boiling them especially for that long would kill them

      I don’t know. That’s not my expertise. But there should be some good resources on that topic if it’s a concern for you.

    If beans bloat from water, you don't have double, you have big beans. If you start with a cup of beans, you end-up with a cup of beans even if they bloat up. That's so unintelligent.

      The concept of a change in volume is what changes how many beans you can fit in a cup. When they are dry, they take up less space so more of them can fit in a cup. When they absorb water and get bigger, they take up more space, so fewer of them can fit in a cup. That’s why cooked beans will measure more than dried ones.
