In this video I talk about my 5 year fitness journey and everything i wish i knew back when I started. I cover 4 mistakes to avoid when you start your fitness journey and going to the gym to workout and lift weights. These are 4 things I wish I knew before starting my fitness journey. Hopefully these 4 mistakes that I made when I first started working out and trying to transform my body will help you avoid them and have more success than I did when I first started going to the gym. These 4 things are what i wish i knew before starting my fitness journey. Lifting weights and trying to lose weight or build muscle can be hard when your first starting your fitness journey, but hopefully you can get off to a better foot than I did and really start to see some progress in the gym.
Have a great week guys! Cheers.

Unpopular opinion but when I watch transformation videos I prefer amateur/lower quality videos. It feels real. Over produced, high quality videos feel like ads. That is why I always go back to your old video when I need a reset/recharge

Great advice, I’ve loved watching your fitness videos over the years! I’m sort of restarting my fitness journey now. Of course gyms were closed for a lot of the pandemic and I needed money so I began working like crazy, so I ended up as skinny as I’d ever been (though somehow didn’t lose much muscle or strength once my gym finally reopened).
I was doing extremely well with calisthenics exercises, until I was hospitalized with post-vaccine myopericarditis last summer. Couldn’t exercise for almost 8 months while recovering and have had to take it slow as there are signs of loss of left ventricular function. I finally went back to the gym yesterday and I’ve lost a ton of strength, and have gained 10 lbs of fat. For example, I could once do 8 weighted chin ups with 35 lbs strapped around my waist, as well as 12 weighted dips with 35 lbs. Yesterday I could only 4 body weight chin ups and 5 dips, but at least I could still do more than 1!
Anyway, I’m glad to see this video because it reminded me that I know what I need to do and refreshed me on some mistakes I was making before the myopericarditis. Looking forward to getting fit again and thanks for your videos on the topic, they’ve kept me motivated many times!

Really great journey that shows what fitness is about. It shows that If you want to succeed in any sport, be it fighting, bodybuilding, amateur fitness or something else, you will definitely have to watch what you eat. Training is important but there are no real gains without proper diet. I realized that after I started following my first meal plan. I got it from site Next Level Diet. At the beginning it was hard to eat 3000 calories in a day, but I got used to it. I started noticing real gains and it felt amazing. I wish I'd known the importance of diet earlier.

This video has come at a good time. The past two years (really ever since COVID shut down gyms) have been such a rollercoaster for me. My mental and emotional health was really tested as life, family, and health just all went down the drain. I always have been fluctuating with being fit, muscular, fat, medium, etc. just seems I get to the goal and then something just causes me to see the long term aspects or to fall back into those bad habits.
Right now I am currently the heaviest I’ve been in my life. I believe I am actually considered obese. It’s sad because just last September, I was running my fastest mile and in really good physical shape. Even in that 210 range which gave me optimism as I was near my ideal weight. But then I also deal with plantar fasciitis which makes wanting to do cardio and exerting activity potentially painful. I had to stop exercising and running because it hurt to simply walk and go to the bathroom. And now that I am obese and still have these lingering effects, it just seems everything is so impossible. But this video was a great reminder that I can still get back and live a healthier life.

    • @Rascal157
      @Rascal157 Před 2 lety

You can do it, man! I’m replying because I used to have plantar fasciitis and I remember how much that sucked - I know it might be expensive but man, the best thing you can do is to get a physiotherapist who deals with that to help you. I couldn’t walk without a ton of pain and through maybe a month of Physio with ultrasound and stretches and it’s better. I’ve started feeling it again recently so I might have to go again, haha, but that’s about 5 years later! You got this!

Like most people, I found your channel via the Hugh Jackman workout video, and I've been a huge fan ever since! Loved seeing the increase in production quality. I also find your fitness journey particularly inspiring because it somewhat parallels mine, when you uploaded the aforementioned video is when I started getting into training properly. I'm the same height and (around) the same weight as you and our bodies are very similar. I used to see people on television and in media and assume I'm not training hard enough and I should be bigger, but I think us genetically average (no offense lol) white guys reach a kind of plateau around this level of muscularity, and while it's surmountable it's probably not easy to maintain much more muscle while living an ordinary life.
Anyway, this advice is great and I'm glad it wasn't a recitation of clichés that I've heard a million times. These are definitely aspects you need to consider if you wanna incorporate fitness into your lifestyle long-term!

Knowing my 40th birthday was coming up I started taking it serious at the start of the year; No snacking/ junk food/ alcohol other then cheat day. Body weight in grams of protein/ day. 8hrs sleep/ night. Training 3-5 days/ week (damn shift work). Lost 9lbs, and 4" of gut. Looking a lot better. 189lbs, 6ft. Hope to start seeing my weight start to climb as the last of the fat burns off and muscles grow.

    I'm in my late 30s. I've a very skinny frame...a 6' wrist & skinny calves. I'm 170lbs & 5'9" on a good day. I aim for this weight even though I'm carrying some fat.
Point is, if I ate clean & got to 10% body fat, I'd be say 156lbs or something. Even if I'm pretty jacked, people would look at me as skinny & think they could snap me like a twig.
I've been light all my life. People treat you like you're less if you haven't got abit of size behind you, believe me. They day things to you they would dream of saying to someone 200lbs. I aim for abit of size without being fat.

I'm not a candy person or chocolate person or even a sweets person. I am twizzler binge eater. I'm talking about 2 lb of twizzlers in a half a day maybe 2 days if I get them late at night. I usually don't think about them for weeks or months on end. When I used to go food shopping after the gym I would succumb to my twizzler addiction because they would be the last thing staring me right in the face at checkout. I would lose a 1-1 1.5lbs at the gym & then wake up the next day a pound heavier than when I got home from the gym because of the twizzlers.
What I did to make sure that doesn't happen is not go food shopping after the gym and buy the majority of my food online and have it delivered to my house. I have not eaten twizzlers in about 10 months or any other junk food that i can think of for that matter. Eating a healthy balanced diet has never been a issue for me. It was always not counting my calories so I would overeat or the once or twice a week binge eating where I would gain 4 or 5 pounds after losing the same 4 to 5 pounds working out & eating right. I am now 180-182 lbs. shredded steel and sex appeal. I am ready for the summer.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I know where the sentiment was coming from. I spent 7 years toiling away being a serious gym rat before realizing how stupidly simple it was.
    1) Track Your Macros. That's a phrase I heard fifteen thousand times a day from other guys at the gym, from Crossfit vloggers, trainers, athletes of all sports and pretty much everyone else, and I dismissed it with rolled eyes. Then, during the pandemic, I won an opportunity to work with a dietician who trains Olympians and he got me tracking my macros. In that one month, I made more progress than I had in 7 years. Once I got my macros in the pocket, I went from a medium to a 2XL, and have maintained my composition since, with the only real work I needed to do is adjusting my fat/muscle ratios with weights and cardio.
    2) Technique over weight. Chest up, shoulders back, arms tucked at your side, feet facing forward, eyes straight ahead is a grouping of orders that I wish I heard sooner, it would have saved me a lot of physiotherapy bills. Instead, I was out there chasing PRs while exploding my back instead of the targeted areas through my sets. Once I nailed proper lifting form, bicep exercises started to actually be felt in my biceps, quad exercises in my quads, and abs in abs.
