- The Dell XPS 15 9560 is back for 2017. With faster everything it looks to hold the throne for best 15-inch laptop, but a few flaws hold it back from perfection.
Update: Killer has since fixed the Wi-Fi issues reported in this video. Turns out, Microsoft broke something during an update. You can download the new Killer drivers from their website to address the issue.

LOL "You either love the XPS's keyboard or you don't... I don't hate it, I don't love it."
So far the only down side to the keyboard I've found that really annoys me is the space bar not registering. I often hit it right at the far right hand edge, it goes down but... often, nowt. Which sucks when code editing.
When it's on my lap and not a table that's offset to the right a bit, it's spot on though. Such a nice feeling laptop to actually use on your lap.

WTH!!! I paid 2200$ for the Dell XPS and was shipped the model with a POS Toshiba drive which barely approaches 1/2 the speed of the samsung model!!
It was this review that help me make my decision on what to get. I think that what dell did was dirty shipping the samsung based SSD's to the reviewer and leaving the Toshiba drive for the consumers. Reviewers need to start calling dell out for doing this!!

Hi there, which screen would you recommend for photo editing? Is there a big difference in colour matching between the 2 versions ? if so how much accurate is the 4k display compared to the hd one?
I must've gotten a lemon when I received my 9560 last week. Sooooo glad I returned it! Screen flickering (after updating drivers), ridiculously slow boot time, freezing, not recognizing fingerprint and/or pin, etc. The only thing good I can say about it is that I like the design aesthetic and the screen (when it wasn't flickering).
how is the xps 15 different from precision 5520 ? I don't know the detailed differences but they look very similar. I am now confused which to get.

Hi guys i just bought a 9560 but got some trouble with the bluetooth function. My Bose Revolve speaker does connect to the Dell but it only gives out a very quiet sound even at full volume (around 40% what i got from my old Macbook or my iPhone). Any suggestions to solve it? Thanks

Great review! Have you or anyone reading this experienced any problems with the bezels on the 1080p display XPS 15? Some people have said they experienced their bezels to lift off the display, bump up or warp a little. Has this happened to you?
I'm seeing a lot of negativity regarding backlight bleed on the FHD model. I'm ready to buy, but this has me concerned. Any thoughts on that?
I got a Toshiba drive that had relatively poor performance 170MBs read and 600MBs writes. Did you get the 1tb drive? If you got the 1tb Samsung 961 could you reply with the part number I am trying to get Dell to swap mine out as my drive performance is poor and for my work it is too slow.

i like the spectre 360x 15'', I am thinking to use it for business presentation, but i will do some light video editing sometime, should i switch to XPS 15? is it necessary to pay more for the processor and gpu? please i need help, thank you so much! T.T
Spectre x360 15 should be fine for all of that. Depends if you want the two-in-one feature + Pen of the Spectre, or the power/limited laptop use of the XPS 15. Not easy! The good new? Either one will make you happy to use. They're both excellent.

Just got my 4K version and I am already having trouble with the Killer wireless card. running 4K videos for sometime on CZcams using Chrome browser, the Wi-Fi just freezes and restarts itself in a minute. Strange that running CZcams on Microsoft edge browser doesn't do that often. Looking forward to your video on changing the wireless card.

I have one of these on order, it should be here in a week and a half... but this video is reassuring - it's the first 9560 video I've seen that has detail on which SSD was used. I was worried it'd have something cheap and rubbish in there but if it's better than a 960 Evo I'm more than happy :)

Dell has since changed the SSD. It's a lottery between whether you get this Samsung or a slower Toshiba :-/

Only info so far I can find on the XG4 Toshiba drives is "1800 MB/s read, 1050 MB/s write"
Have had my xps 15 9560 4k display 512gb ssd version about three weeks now and its giving me a hard time and not to mention with the adobe creative suite 2017. Experiencing UI lag both in photoshop and adobe premier pro even though I have all the updated drivers, changed the power management settings and nvidia control settings. Anyone having this problem?? :/
After ton of Dell XPS 15 videos I think this is the single most informative and effective video ( for me 😉) that i've come across in ages. If you'll excuse me, now I'm gonna buy it for real.

Funnily enough I experience the same driver issues you stated you have on the XPS 15 with my MSI M9 ACK motherboard that also has the 1535 chip in it
I been playing with this laptop for two days now and I do love it but it has one flaw. Never raise the volume using the Maxx pro program. It will rattle and maybe blow out a speaker. I was testing how loud it gets and started hearing the left speaker rattling with high bass. One more thing the 4K display has IPS glow from viewing angles. I have to go to a Best Buy and see if the other units they have displayed if their display is defective.
Can't wait till it is finally available at my retailer of choice! I want that thing so bad :)
With the specs, they are somewhat similar to Apple Macbook Pro 2016 15". However, the huge huge difference between these 2 is the price. Looking for a laptop that will cater to my needs as Ill be in a course that requires a lot of picture and video editing. Would gladly appreciate any advice..

When I edit pictures using lightroom on my 4k 9560 they looks so perfect but the pictures looks heavily undersaturated once I view them on other screens. So lately I've been exporting the pictures first to my cellphone and then going back to lightroom on my laptop to see how much more saturation I need to add

I searched for this strange battery limit that I wasn't aware of, it says 100Wh PER battery (up to 160 with the company authorization), I didn't find anything about 100Wh total split into cells (which are separated batteries).

Dear friends, two days ago I received my xps 9560 with core i7, 16 gb of ram and 512 of ssd. Sadly I'm experiencing quite annoying and frequent micro lags even doing the most basic things like surfing the net or going throught windows. From the task manager I see that there are no spikes in cpu/ram/disk/net usage when those lags happen. Have you had the same issue? I'm lost about how to fix it since I can't really see anything going wrong... Thank you so much, Roberto

I bought a 9560 with HD screen just last week, and as soon as I booted it, went through the setup screens, it starts going into the windows blue screen. In 8 hours it went blue screen 6 times. I let it sit for two days, fired it up to try and do some Fusion 360 work, and lost all my work as it crashed before I could save it (5 mins in). I really need this laptop to work for me, the form factor was crucial as much as the processor due to the amount of CAD/CAM I do. Right now I am working off a Dell Studio 17 with the original I7 processor, and it may be a bit slower, but it just doesn't crash, ever on windows 10. It is just too big to carry every day so it gets left at one place, when I really need it with me.
I'd see about an exchange. Something is not right. In the 3 weeks we have had this device not one BSOD.
I opted to send it back and order another but with the 4k screen....there just isn't much competetion for the 9560...
Wireless performance is absolutely critical so I look forward to the wireless card replacement tutorial. Aren't these things usually soldered to the motherboard? Good thing they aren't in any case... As for the SSD, you probably got a 256 or 512 GB SSD, which is why you got a Samsung. The few 1TB ones I've seen so far are all Toshiba, which is what I feared would be the case due to the increased price premium for Samsung SSD:s at and and above 1TB compared to low-end brands of the same size.
Would you recommend the 4k UHD over the FHD? This is coming from a Mac user. I like the glossy finish of the 4k version and it reminds me more of the MBP's screen. However, I don't see myself talking advantage of the touch screen.

Just placed my order with Dell for this laptop (9560) with i7 7700HQ, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, and a fingerprint scanner! Can't wait to unbox and unleash this beast! I will do an unboxing video of my own but thank you for the great video it was very helpful to me in making my final decision!

how did you get a 97 Whr battery on a FHD model? on their website the bigger battery is only on the 4k touch model. it didnt give me the option to configure the FHD model
The Bees Knees its there in the us version.( there are 7 configurations, its the 5th one.)

(1) Dell's website is poor for navigation; you may have just not seen the other versions (2) There are, however, some countries like AU that don't get the 97WHr/FHD version for whatever reason, so there may be regional issues as well (3) You can try to call/order from Dell direct and request that version

Hey, i just got a Dell XPS 15 9560 16gb ram and 4k display,. while working with it, it shutdown and tried restarting itself but couldn't, it kept display blue screen error and I tried recovering but it couldn't recover also because of the bluescreen error, so tried reinstalling the operating system but it keeps going to the bluescreen error, please could you help???
return it as its probably a dead motherboard. my brother had that issue one month after he bought it " the 13 inch version" blue screen error then it just won't start . he called they told him the motherboard is dead.

What kind of battery life am i looking at with the 57whr and 1080p? 7300hq/1050 combo. Went with the 500gb 7200rpm drive, despite it being old i'm still running a 10,000rpm raptor on my main. Figured i'd move to an SSD down the road and save the money now.

I got my Dell XPS 15 9560 delivered today. I have ordered the same configuration as of you with Full HD Display, GTX 1050, I7, and 512 GB ssd. But i got Toshiba THNSN5512GPUK NV instead of the Samsung 961 Pro. The customer care is not helping with the issue. Any help!

I just bought one of these thinking I was getting a 7590. Because I just look up xps 15 , and dont know about computers. I drive 2 hours to get this 9560. Thinking I screw up. But i apparently paid half off and this review makes me feel better about it.

Yes. See the benchmarks in the video or the written review. You can't really play Gears/Doom on the Spectre, not without huge compromise. Basically, the people who need quad-core KNOW they need quad-core e.g. they're developers, run VM, CAD, do video rendering/exporting, etc. Regular consumers do not need quad-core.

This is the best overall laptop. I wish I could have it or change my Dell Inspiron 7559 for this one.

There is no "fix" for coil whine, which is why nearly every laptop we review there is someone complaining about it. Also, no, I don't hear any/nor am bothered by it.

Has anyone else noticed black vertical lines appearing on 4k screen on white background? They flash for a split second but so quickly you can hardly notice! Other people must be getting this? I have also been getting scroll pad lag in some applications. I am guessing these are driver related issues but haven't had the time to research and fix. First impressions on 4k 1GB SSD / 32 GB ram ok but not perfect. A bit like my Alienwares which were all faulty. Thanks Dell

I found out what was the problem its Dell Color Premier app was flickering the screen plus I upgraded to the latest Nvidia driver 373.66 and its working now

That Premier colour kept bringing up the annoying blue Square on mine and it took me forever to realise it was that 😂 I updated the Nvidia software which seems to have sorted the vertical banding. I was getting masiveeeee touchpad lag and found out it was to do with NVIDIA Gefore Experience! uninstalled and all fine now
HP Spectre x360 (2017) VS xps 15 9560 Please
the hp spectre x360 is pretty sturdy too, I believe it's much cheaper than the dell xps with the same specs: 4k, 16gb ram and 512 gb ssd. Also, it also let u charge via usb-c too.
All true BUT Spectre is DUAL core while XPS 15 is QUAD core. Huge performance difference. Same with 940mx vs 1050 GPUs. Still, HP Spectre is a great value.

Gaming on the XPS 15 has been an inconvenience for me due to the slow monitor response time. Ghosting is noticable even during regular usage. I will be returning mines unfortunately.
I'm guessing that you are a hardcore gamer. Well for your preference I would recommend purchasing the Aero 14 from Gigabyte as it is cheaper, has good build quality and should fit your needs.🙂

The xps 15 is perfect on paper but a shitload of customers seem to have problems with the wifi-card, blue screens and the 4k panel flickering.
And apparently they send out review units with the Samsung SSD's and the regular ones ship with Toshiba SSD's.

No words on ghosting? It was clearly visible during the movie's action shots. Such an expensive laptop with such a crappy high response time screen (50-60 ms). Sad.
I can report the 4k screen has ghosting but at only 60fps anything below it I dont notice it. Sometimes the mouse would trail so I think I might have to call them on Monday and get my unit replace. I do love the wide color gamut though

We've got folks in our IT support who keep saying "Use IE". I can't laugh in their face enough. Especially when they say it to Mac users.
I'm not sold on Edge yet, the debuggers are much better but it's still pretty shoddy in a lot of places.
Yep, same problem here! I've had tech support try to "fix" the problem twice now to no avail. Thinking I might have to return it. I spend almost $3000 on this thing, and it can't run chrome properly? Kind of ridiculous.
Don't like using Edge personally.
I have hundreds of bookmarks on Chrome organized in folders that I can't live without for work. Edge doesn't support importing bookmarks from Chrome. Also, I advertise for Google, it is convenient for log in purposes to use Chrome.
The Dell Inspiron with 4K display is a better buy.. Better speakers better webcam and cheaper
