    For college I bought a 2017 Precision 5520 in 2018 which is identical but with an Nvidia Quadro instead.
    I loved it for college, wouldn't have wanted anything else in the world but nowadays the performance is definitely a bit lacking. Since I'm not in college anymore I built myself a nice desktop and just keep the laptop for when I need something portable with a larger screen than a phone.
    Edit: I repasted the CPU, did a fresh install of windows 11 on it (with a little hack because it's not officially supported) and am waiting for my new battery from ifixit to arrive. Performance wise it feels like new again although my standards are definitely higher now. It'll be nice to revive it as a great laptop with the new battery though.

    I have had dell laptops for the last 10 years. Started with a latitude e6410, then e5430, e6430 which i finished my engineering masters degree with and my last latitude was an e5480 which made me appreciate somewhat thin and light laptops. I have always wanted an xps, i thought of them as macbooks for windows users. In the end i upgraded to a precision 7530 with a similar gpu to yours, a quadro p2000 and a 6 core i7 8750h with 32gb of ram. This "review" gives me a pretty good idea how the precision would run these games. Good luck with the sale, i would personally like you to review some more cheap cards since you are one of the few people who can find gems in the rough. I think most of the other cards on the wishlist are well documented across youtube already.

Most of the cards from that era could get by on a mere 1GB buffer, it's not like texture quality was even that demanding anyway (except maybe OG Dead Space at 4K or something lol). I think the extra VRAM models came about due to the fact that the demands for creative workloads picked up a lot faster compared to gaming. Either way, my 570 (rather ironically) performed about as good as an RX 560, with a whopping 500MB extra memory albeit less support for modern titles. I have the Inspiron with the 7300HQ and 1050 Ti (4GB), 16GB of RAM & 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD. Thing has definitely gotten me through some tough/hard times over the last 6 years, hell I never expected much of it with an entry level desktop GPU but it hasn't let me down just yet (even if everything else -- including modern games -- has). To me the CPU has always held it back more often than not, especially thanks to the lack of hyper-threading & all-core turbo of 3.1Ghz (Great job, Intel). Ah well, it's the product of a different point in time, these days it gets by on being a glorified PS4 alternative for my wife. Now it has a 2060, didn't even feel like the same system.

Some applications don't work well with 4k, so dropping it to 1080p (desktop resolution)will fix the windowed bug. You also have to play with some in game settings and nvida settings. Have you changed the i7-7700HQ's thermal paste and undervolted it?
    You lose A LOT of singlethread speed between 2.8GHz and 3.4GHz.

      For web browsing, media consumption, document writing and keeping a spreadsheet? Yes, but check the battery as it might be an expensive add-on.
      For compute-heavy tasks and gaming? Not really.

    Ummm wanted to ask you about this:
    czcams.com/video/NWmConRMbD4/video.html
    Even a 3770k overclocked to 4.5ghz is bottlenecked heavily by a gtx 1660
    So what do you think about xeon cpu from the same era

    • @IcebergTech
      @IcebergTech  Před rokem

      Is BF V a game you specifically want to play? If so, that generation of CPU is going to perform poorly in my experience. I recommend Haswell (Core i 4000 series, Xeon E3 v3) or later, and ideally something new like an i5 10400F or a Ryzen 5 5500 or better.
      Re: the linked video, that appears to be an example of Nvidia's heavier driver overhead causing a CPU bottleneck. That won't be the case in every game, but in CPU intensive titles like BF V a Radeon should work much better with weaker CPUs.
      (sorry for the late reply, CZcams automatically filters comments containing links!)

    I respect that BOTW slander, I was even more disappointed by the fact that TOTK is nothing more but that BOTW again but now with more ragdoll and tech shit, it wouldbe great if nintendo fans wasn't just a dick sucking contest and instead of TOTK being BOTW2 it was actually improved version and made exploring hyrule FUN and not like in every open wolrd ever made expect skyrim

    • @IcebergTech
      @IcebergTech  Před rokem +1

      Lol, it was intended as a criticism of every lazy copycat that followed BOTW. I’ve never played TOTK, so I have nothing to comment there, but if we don’t see a million Ultrahand knockoffs in the future I’ll be genuinely shocked!

    • @saricubra2867
      @saricubra2867 Před rokem

      TOTK is way better than BOTW.
      They fixed enemy variety, improved the dungeons, characters, sidequests, weapon durability...
      The story is still terrible but overall the game is better.
