He didn’t want to move in to his moms because he recognized his moms boyfriend was an ex-addict and he didn’t want him to relapse, says a lot about him as a person. Addiction is hard, god bless bro.
I thought the SAME THING
Addiction is so hard 😫😭
Funny how u can blame someone els for some u like doing.....
The irony is people first take drugs to feel free but the drugs turn you into a single minded slave.
Perfect description.
Great description. Im still addicted to Subutex (buprenorphine) and I feel like I have no way to get out. I tried to be sober and had to quit after 2 and a half days since I felt like dying.
I used to be addicted to heroin for years, but started to use Subutex in late 2011, lying to myself like its a medicine of some kind. Been using it I.V for 8 years and my eyesight is getting worse from it and my veins are clogged so I have to shoot in my neck and feet.
All the best for you people.
Oh and if people in US haven't heard about Subutex, its just Suboxone without the naloxine.
I can't let you get close
wow same exact story, even same year with switching to the subs and IVing it too... def just swapped one addiction for another, but the subs led to the illusion of a normal life...
Have you given Kratom a try? To use while weaning off the subs? Sub withdrawal is hell, as I’m sure you know... but the Kratom makes it more bearable... just know you’ve got about a month of hell vs. a week with heroin or other opiates.
It seems like there’s no way out once you’re in it, but I promise you there is! I am living proof... feel free to reach out to me if you need any support xx
Drugs can be regulated and used in responsible manner.
Almost at my 90 day mark and on days like today when I want to use I’m reminded of why it’s not an option. Thank you.
Don't give up! Stay strong! From someone who tries to stay clean. One step at the time. Xxx
same 😊
Sarah Monaghan hope it goes well for you!
You can do this sweetheart
Nancy Coutlee thank you 🙌🏻
he seems so well spoken, charismatic and put together... imagine if he wouldn't be on drugs, this guy would be seriously thriving. it's never too late, Chase. there are options and you can do it.
I clicked on his interview because I wanted to see if what I saw in his eyes in the thumbnail is what I would find in the interview.
Yep, addiction is all for equal opportunities.
I agree. I hope that he will come to a point in his life where circumstances will lead him strongly enough to get clean and stay clean. Addiction is an evil monster. 🙏
With a heroin addiction, past or present, not a chance.
Holy shit, I went to school with this kid
Homie you can do this. I was addicted to oxys heroin and fentanyl for the past 16 years. I am 6 months clean. Sending good vibes your way #WedoRecover
Much respect..be well.
That's awesome, Josh! How are you doing today? Your comment was 5 months ago, so assuming you're doing well and coming up on 1 year in recovery.

Or a surgeon possibly. Maybe a Supreme Court Justice. Endless possibilities. .
Clean? I doubt it...its been 17 years...

His eyes are still full of spirit. I hope he can find a new path.

He shouldn’t settle for being homeless. Just by watching this video you can see his potential. I hope he can break free from the drugs that chain him. Life can be beautiful
Hello I live in Seattle WA I love all of your videos

bentley3k Bentley, This is really nice to hear. Keep it up. Thanks for watching.

Why do ppl say “he’s good looking, he can get back”? So, if you’re unattractive, there’s no hope? It really shows how prejudiced this world is.
Deidra Peters no they’re just complimenting him. Plus some people have a rougher look when they’re on drugs; he doesn’t.
Angel Bishop I understand it’s a compliment but looks don’t mean a thing when you have an addiction. He’s handsome and charismatic but guess what, he’s no different than the “rougher” looking ones. Addiction is addiction. The disease doesn’t discriminate. If you clean him up, with all his good looks he’ll still be a homeless, addict. The outside means nothing. His being handsome is irrelevant. He’s scraping the bottom of the barrel just like the “rougher” looking ones. Everyone deserves empathy, not just the good looking ppl.
haha i know.. "he's good looking he could of been anything".. yeah but most people who are better on the eyes are normally the ones who are a tool short of a toolbox there's a reason why models and actors use there face and the ugly scientist uses his brain.
They are just observations. Fuckin chill.
Because people are thoroughly superficial
Mark, I would absolutely love to see a 1 year update on Chase, please!!! He was a very nice young man with a terrible problem. One day, I’d like to start a rehab here in the Deep South. Helps addicts heal and recover from all the trauma. Taking care of the baby animals on a farm is very healthy for the mind. Not to mention, rewarding! Knowing you raised the hog right for the spicy sausage (which makes it taste perfect with NOTHING artificial!) And got the right fresh herbs & spices. Mmm, very rewarding in so many ways. Kids would do best to get back to the land,
He speaks a lot with his eyes; it’s beautiful.
I love gays..too bad he is a cis hetero🤷♂️
speaking with eyes ?
If he didn’t say he was a homeless addict, no one would know. Hope he gets out before the life consuming habit totally wins ,
California has the best dressed homeless people. They certainly don't look like that here
I know right it’s crazy. You see some of the people with chains nice outfits . I mean I look more homeless then most these people
@carry 🤣😂
He looks like an actor which i can't remember yet
Heroin doesn't fuck up your appearance nearly as much as methamphetamine, alcohol, crack cocaine, or DXM just to name some drugs that I've literally watched completely tear people's physical appearance apart. If you are on opiates and simply eat, sleep, shower daily most people will likely not know.
People that smile when speaking about trauma are the ones in most pain. And in his still picture you can see his broken heart in those eyes.
The energy and light coming out of his eyes is beautiful. The drugs haven't stolen his light yet.
Lori this is beautiful and well written!
So true
This is something about myself that I'm not proud of, but since the interviewees in these videos are so honest, I feel comfortable expressing this: I notice that I have more hope for the people who seem more "with it". If/when I give money to panhandlers, it's always the ones with smiles on their faces or the ones I can have coherent conversations with. I was homeless on 3 separate occasions in my late teens-early 20s, and I was briefly in Skid Row myself (I'm in my 30s now so it's been over a decade), and when I panhandled I made sure to be smiley and upbeat. No one wants to see pain, pain in other humans is an ugly, difficult thing to face. Even though I went through it myself, I still unconsciously gravitate towards helping those who seem to have "more of a chance", even though everyone has as much possibility of a chance as long as they're still alive.
I've also noticed greater compassion (in the comments sections of this channel's videos) for the people who are "good looking" according to conventional standards... Why are we prejudiced in these ways? We *could* boil it right down to biology, but that doesn't explain enough... I really do wonder.
I think (if I may) it's partially because they 'look good' and aren't in the deep deep throws and years and years of disease and neglect. Once your teeth go or you get your first big time infection, things fall further and further. They also have their neurons firing at a fairly normal rate still. Speech is clear.
karmakameleon113 yeah ppl who are good looking by media standards are always with so much potential and ppl can “tell” they’re good people. But if they look run down, old, and not attractive it’s their fault and they’re horrible people
Some people base others worth on their looks.
Yes Karma-you're a bad person. Give it a break
I know I’m guilty if a person is outgoing and friendly I’m more likely to respond with patience. I’m going to work harder on this unconscious bias, especially since seeing these videos.
He's a handsome man.
yeah he's a very handsone chap !. can imagine him acting in some film,as a heart throb.bless him
Yes he is
Jazmyn Brown imagine him sober.
Really handsome, and really sweet too!
Yes, I think he might be OK in time, affable chap
Growing up in a richy place in California and being middle class, I feel him when he said he hung out with rich white kids and that's how he was introduced to drugs. Hoping he gets help.
No doubt, a lot of those Cali rich people are cokeheads, alcoholics, pillheads or some combination of those three. A lot of casual drug addicts to (Ex: rich Karen's washing down Xanax with red wine on the daily living in the suburbs, college kids railing Adderall just to be able to drink more alcohol)
Can you do an update on him?
His smile is so beautiful & he's so cute and his story is so inspiring, This man deserves so much🖤 i wish him the best. I understand him too. Hope he gets sober. 🖤🖤
He has so much potential. Sending him healing and good vibes
It's strange, he's a homeless Heroin addict - a situation that would be horrifying to most. But he seems so chilled and calm about everything.
Opiates make you not give a fuck about anything that's common knowledge.
Such a handsome guy! With a great personality and ability to talk not to mention his eyes are beautiful....you dont even notice him missing a hand! I'm praying for him to beat drugs he has great potential
Dude, I'm pretty sure I know this man, "Chase"?!... When he said A.R.C. (American Recovery Center), Pomona, it clicked. I was there too, but they have non-com between males and females.... but yeah, my 21 days there (August - September, 2018) there was a man that looked a hell of a lot like Chase (minus the beanie and baggy clothes, it was hot that month) missing a hand, as well as a man missing a leg, we all got lucky and played coed softball together once. If it is him, and he reads this: I do remember you being a pleasant and sweet person, mostly keeping your head down but grinning all the time and moving around with purpose. I truly wish you the best of luck :) ~Jesi :)
Are you telling us on this video he has a missing leg?
@@enuphsayd9746 No, there was another man at ARC who also happened to be an amputee.
@@enuphsayd9746 I found it ironic and damn cool that of the 60 or so men there, that the 2 guys missing limbs played sports while the majority opted out! That's a good attitude! The guy missing his leg was the pitcher! Chase batted. They were both excellent! They kicked us chics asses to say the least! ;)
His voice was relaxing. I hope we get an update on him.

Top stories, fantastic lighting and photography. Completely arresting, thought provoking and human. Love this body of work. Hope all the lost souls find their rightful homes. ♥️
I am a recovering alcoholic. I’ve been sober for a number of years. I just want to say that I am so happy that you’ve made these videos. People with addiction are often portrayed or viewed in a very biased way. I love the honesty and candidness of all of the people and what led them to the place they are now. Life is hard. Harder for some than others. Thank you for showing kindness and understanding.
I watched intervention growing up and it always showed such out of control addiction. I love seeing this, where people tell their stories, the people are so much more relatable and truly shows how easy it would be for ANYONE to end up in these same circumstances.
Omg I was so enthralled by this guy's charisma that I was nearly 3 min into the video before I noticed he only has one hand 😲
kind of impressive that skid row is not rock bottom to this guy. Mentality like that is what will lead to him living there forever
Other's have lived in poverty during childhood and have no frame of reference for something better.
Everybody has their own rock bottom.
He's not the usual addict. You'd never know it to hear him speak. What a waste of talent.
The only waste is your empathy that is completely ignored.
Such a sweet personality. Hope sincerely he gets out of addiction.🙏
I never realised Skid Row was an actual place...I always just thought it was an expression...."be careful or you'll end up on skid row"
Jake Stevens yes it’s quite interesting really 😊
lion x warrior I’m a 32 year old who is over four years clean from oxycodone/heroin and I had no idea and thought it was more of an expression. I’m from New England and have lived a privileged life. My family and people surrounding me would’ve never discussed something like skid row

I could never work at a rehab that just let's ppl out into the streets with no support or follow up plan. Recipe for relapse
YEOOOO I DIDNT EVEN NOTICE THIS MAN HAD NO HAND
Any updates on this kid. The comments are right. He is still in a legit mind to get out and be something. He's got no business there. None .
He's 30 and before he knows it, he will be 40, if he makes it. That kind of life is very hard on the body and soul. He can turn it around and do something constructive with his life if he so wills. Sadly, the vast majority of people that are addicted aren't willing to pay the cost of a better life because that would mean a life without drugs. The high becomes what they live for. Very sad. I wish him the best.
One thing I've noticed about many of the stories on here the people speak very intelligent and many people I know who are addicted to drugs are very good hearted people and smart
You would never now looking at this dude that he is indeed an addict. God bless u dude ♥️ there's always away out u just have to have HOPE x
I love how humble Chase is and very accepting that he put himself in the situation he's in. He'd make a great counselor or even a motivational speaker. I'm from the Venice/Culver City area and I feel like I can see him being one of the surfers down there. He reminds me of a brunette Paul Walker (lol). I wish him all the best and hopes that he gets on the right track. He owes it to himself because I can see him doing greater things. Is there a follow up on him?
You are a very intelligent young man... I hope and pray you get clean 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 you deserve to be happy and healthy and get off skid row... you are definitely in my prayers god bless u
It’s crazy how some people are not faded by the drugs. He is carrying on a coherent conversation. It’s obvious that he can smile through it all bc the drugs have numbed him into not feeling anything and that’s why he can say it not so bad out there.
I have seen this dude somewhere online I think. Looks familiar but I’m from Michigan. He still has hope but needs possibly a methadone maintenance or subutex plan. I do like how your bringing light to the issues of economic problems of our country. Good luck To all these people.
It is tiring to be doing the same thing over and over constantly working towards your next hit. I feel for this guy he has a very good head on his shoulders if only he can get off that H. So much easier said then done. Hope he pulls through
This is why they need to drug test people who get ebt from the government. It’s not for drug use and because of this they should probably just stop this kind of help entirely. Try to do something good for someone and they take advantage and ruin it for everyone else.
I think maybe this is the guy that Lin says he love the guy with the beautiful eyes or maybe not😂😂😂. He's a smiling face inspite everything.

Glad I don’t have any of the problems your interviewees have. I partied but it never went to any level these people are at. I hope they get better man. I lived in Hunter’s Point and the Tenderloin in San Francisco and in Albuquerque, NM. I thank GOD I never went into a downward spiral. And If I did, I would pick myself back up and get on the straight and narrow. Prayers for all these people trapped.
Mark, I absolutely appreciate your channel and the work you do. I feel like you expose a lot of stories and issues that society tends to sweep under the rug. Thank you for your work.
I just wanted to point out a particular comment in this video that didn't sit well. Chase explains that he's from Hawaii and how Hawaii can be prejudicial towards whites or "haoles." If I heard correctly, you compared being white in Hawaii like being black in Mississippi. As a part white person in Hawaii, I can attest that haoles (including me) have experienced some prejudice. However, I cannot agree that being white in Hawaii is similar to being black in Mississippi.
Yes, there is prejudice. But I think we can agree that the systemic discrimination, injustice, and violence committed against African Americans could not be compared to the plights that white people feel in Hawaii. I don't mean to be a social justice warrior here because I myself have a lot of learning and growing to do. I also don't know how to tell you this in a less public venue although I wish I would. I just think that your comment does a disservice to you and your channel. It was just a bit disappointing to hear, especially in this current political climate.
Again, I am a big fan. *This isn't my main channel. I just wanted a hero of mine to understand a concern of mine.
Of the 40 or 50 of these I've seen so far this is one of my favorites. He's very likable and honest. Sometimes the upbrings are so tragic and horrific I just can't relate. This guy seems more suburban and middle class. I'm really rooting for him to find meaningful help and deal with the emotional scars so he can get back on track.
Sending you hope and strength Chase. See your value. Fight for sobriety no matter what it takes. Move far away from these places and start fresh. You owe it to you and your Mom.
His conversation is so open and honest. It offers such a realistic insight into this lifestyle. I lost my sister, who struggled with addiction for years, in September. These interviews are helpful to understanding some of the things she suffered. She was not always as honest about things she was doing as this guy. He's very honest with himself...
@@CReck-ch6et thank you. I appreciate that. My sister was a very kind, loving, giving daughter, sister, and Aunt. She is missed by so many. These are people... not just drug addicts.

"Good guys" don't typically sell drugs to people.
If he didn't sell heroin and only sold weed, would you still judge him?
Amy Muller yes I would because 90% of these videos literally talk about how the first drug they all touched was weed, which clearly was a gateway drug for each of them. No use trying to even argue with me on that. People say weed isn’t bad for you yet every person is different and has a different experience when smoking weed. Good for those who can smoke weed and have any side affects but it’s certainly NOT true for everyone.
Although a high percentage of drug addicts will admit their first drug was weed, it doesn't compare to the amount of pot heads who don't touch any other drug. It's only a gateway drug if YOU decide to try other things. Weed isn't inherently the bad thing in these situations, it's trauma & childhood abuse.
@Finn Corchado Exactly Right!!!
He still has his sanity. He can change his life if he so chooses to.
