    Fans at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium threw objects and stormed the pitched after Nigeria lost on away goals to Ghana which saw them fail to qualify for the World Cup finals.
    Local security and police forces were slow to react to the outbreak of violence, as a result tear gas and batons were needed to disperse the unruly rioters.

      Nigeria again bringing international disgrace to Africans. Ghana might as well be a fictional place like Narnia because it gets zero coverage in the western media, because it doesn’t match the Western Stereotype of Africa. So good old Nigeria willing to step up and be that African stereotype for the western media to keep on reporting about. 🤦‍♂️

    As a Nigerian I was also heartbroken because of our failure to qualify but seeing this happened last night was absolutely embarrassing. Some were even justifying their actions by saying "I travel from far just to see these guys play nonsense". My question is, didn't you know you were coming to a football match where there was a very real possibility of losing, if you were not prepared to take the loss then you shouldn't have traveled at all. They were even saying that we lost to common Ghana showing that they were underestimating them, the fans underestimated Ghana but when the players did it, it became a problem. But please bare in mind that this is just a minority of Nigerians who for some reason managed to get hold of a ticket. I get that people are frustrated but destroying the stadium is pure stupidity. I was so excited to see that stadium finally renovated after years of poor maintenance and then some nincompoops thought it better to break everything all because they failed to qualify for the world cup. Ghana did not win by fluke,they absolutely deserved it, the Nigerian players were just not organized and hungry enough despite the tremendous support and its something they need to work on for the future. Instead of we as football fans to stand by our young group of players they are doing this, is it by instilling fear in our players that will make them play better? After now they will be complaining if the government do the same to us.
    We have to look to the future, 2026 here we come❤❤🇳🇬🇳🇬.

      I think it would be best if you understand the situation like this. This is neither the first nor the last time Nigeria will fail to qualify for the world cup. But what makes this scenario different is the present state of the country. Nigerians are simply suffering and football has been one of the only things which seem to unite the citizens across different spectrums. The day before the match there was a deadly train attack on a neighbouring state and there was already a lot of tension among citizens. The failure to qualify for the world cup only tipped things over the edge. The Nigerian citizens were already on the edge and football which was a source of relief and respite failed when it could have possibly been of emotional help. I am not saying this is a valid reason to destroy a stadium but you honestly have to be a Nigerian to truly understand. There is always a bigger picture and sometimes it helps to judge from the other sides perspective.

    this is skewed reporting from what should be credible sports media company... the fans dint even care about the Ghanaian players, they dint throw items solely at the Ghanaian players... their angst was never directed at Ghanaians but at their own team... and this sad scene did not happen immediately after the final whistle, it happened some long minutes after the final whistle, after the players (both sides) had shared handshakes, and the Ghanaian players had celebrated with themselves on the pitch and had gone over to their fans stands to celebrate with their fans... most, if not all the players and match officials had entered the dugout before some of these fans stormed the pitch... this right here from @skysports is wrong reporting, creating a different picture for those not present... you are paid to do a job, do a proper research before reporting on an event... storming of the pitch was almost always going to happen either ways whether Nigeria won or lost... the vandalizing was wrong, however nobody was targeted for harm by the mob, please do your reporting right.. thank you

    • @bzoa430
      @bzoa430 Před 2 lety
