Even managed a 13:37 runtime! That's some elite editing. XD
Haha! He'll find what he needs there for the activation side of things. ;-)
@Weenie Hut Jr's It's a old way of saying elite, spelled out leet but with numbers
If it was 10:25, it would represent the month and day too.
Wow, that LEET timestamp.
@Ladioz Old Internet slang for "Elite" I think it's roots go back to the 1995 movie Hackers, so "1337" -> LEET -> Elite -> Elite Hacker.
Your Windows 98 PC build back in 2018 was one of the best videos I've ever watched... I haven't even started watching this yet and I already know it's going to be amazing! Keep it up!
This videos is a classic
Can't wait for vista in 2026 and 7 in 2029 lol.
@@sennthemanwin98 Same!! Hahahaha
probably newer systems wont allow the older OS. Its the old mischief of microsoft. Windows 7 can also be used on 2007 onward models @@sennthemanwin98
It's crazy how good a game from 2004 still looks today! Doom 3 is just amazing.
Up next: All New Windows 7 20th Anniversary Build in 2029
wait... was Windows 7 just released yesterday?
Had no clue caps could leak just out of old age without actually being used.
The plague caps can do that. You can look at them with love and they will still burst out.
Yup. I just bought a NOS 2001 vintage Antec PSU for my Performance case, and same thing. Zero hours on it, and it had bulging caps. Meh, I was gonna recap it anyway though. :-)
They deteriorated from environmental atmosphere
It can be a real problem with older hardware. Especially when combined with the batteries leaking. The content of both being very corrosive.
That Problem is very common with every original Xbox.
What an amazing coincidence! 😁
That build blows mine out of water... I'm very impressed - this is actually the ULTRAXP's big brother! Glad there were no leaked caps this time, loved this video)
Nice to see you here Enderman, I appreciate both your and his channel uwu
oh hi
You were the first to make that kind of video and he copied it!!!11
@@SearInMinecraft Well. LGR did it too years ago... So...
ikr i saw that vid
Highly recommend that you recap the entire ULTRA PSU, with the right parts some psu's end up being more reliable than new, and it's worth saving something so unique
SO MUCH THIS! That deserves a video all on it's own PERFECT for the new office and the channel
Yes please recap and make a video on it!
The fact they all need recapping makes it ultra rare
I got introduced to your videos with your 98 build and I must say, this video perfectly matches the energy of that video. This is simply incredible, keep it up man.
Damn, that pc looks fantastic.
Really miss these kind of pc cases.
Same
Good old LAN-party cases
yep me too
I actually got something similar looking. Damn i miss old cases
Alright now that I've finished:
I actually had this Antec case back in probably 05-07! Mine was quite worse for wear but it was indeed one of the best cases I ever owned before 2010.
I loved the captioned titles of the games, each one of them made me chuckle. That's also an incredibly impressive library of games to play on this beautiful machine, and they all run so much smoother than the Pentium system I had at the time ever could. I remember playing Quake 4 at 640x480 with 15-20FPS in the best performing areas and thinking it looked incredible. Never did beat that one!
This was a super awesome nostalgia trip and honestly I miss this era of computing. Just the installer music alone sent me on a huge wave of nostalgia. They just don't make the experience as cool as it once was anymore. Windows XP was a huge part of my life for way more years than it should have been. Exposed me to a lot of knowledge about computing, and also how stupid I could be with one. I'll never forget tearing the registry apart to learn every bit of how it worked, watching viruses eat my computer alive because I didn't understand basic computer maintenance as a kid and also put my grubby hands on virtually any download link I could find at the time haha.
Thank you Shelby, from the bottom of my heart, for this incredible video
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I may have had a bit of fun with those subtitles for the games. Quake 4 was almost in the video but I had to cut it for time(Doom 3 and Prey have the gory 00's shooters well covered), but it's worth finishing still! It feels like a more refined Doom 3 to me.
I complete get all that and I'm glad to make something that can trigger those happy memories. I can tell you from a similar experience that you won't get NT/XP's nice plug'n play drivers in Windows 98 by just copying the System 32 folder...lots of good naive times were had with computers in this era!
@@TechTangents8:07 Most important thing in this entire video: Did you notice that it’s always been “Daylight SAVING time” now? Mandela Effect.
I had the same case back in the 2Ks. Built several systems with them. They came with handy carry straps, but no dust filters. I had UV CCFL tubes too. They turn the clear acrylics brown after a few years! Those games brought back some memories.
I love the gameplay with the real box sat next to the screen. That's such a power move! haha great stuff. And might I just say there is an extra dynamic punch to these recent videos which I'm guessing is in some part connected to finally getting a space you can breathe in and feeling inspired to create.
Back in the day, I used to put my optical drive in the second bay, leaving the top bay empty as an "attic" to shove all the spare power supply cables into. That's what passed for "cable management" at the time!
I get strong nostalgia pangs seeing the XP installation....so many fresh installations! New office looks to be working out great too!
Loved. XP was a fantastic OS !!
Windows 10 is ok but I miss. X P
I've put together a couple of rather basic builds a few years ago just to practice building PC's and I slapped a CX430M into my P4 build, was nice to see you bring it up on camera at least!
This is my favourite video on your channel. And one of the favourites on youtube. Thank you, friend.
A Zboard would be a nice period correct keyboard, especially with the Doom 3 keyset if you can find one! I remember being so jealous of my brother when he got one
I actually tried to get a ZBoard, it was complicated to find a 2004 model that was actually new though. They were independent when they first launched but were bought out by Steelseries who added their branding to it afterwards. Then even later models changed to have the round Vista orb Windows key. So finding a true first gen ZBoard that was still unused in box was too difficult to make happen for this video unfortunately. But maybe some day I'll check it out now that I don't need to be as strict about when the parts were made.
They are crap as well - a Logitech G15 is far more apt.
I have a zboard but it's falling apart :(
YEAH!!!! I havent thought about those in years!
Totally had forgotten about these! I'm getting a rush of nostalgia. Another option would be the Logitech G15. First produced in 2001. I'm still using one on my main setup, purchased it second hand CIB 15 years ago or so. Still works flawlessly and feels great. The little screen still comes in handy for displaying MSI Afterburner stats and the time. Never cleaned it either, gonna be real satisfying when I finally get to it.
This hit me right in the nostalgias. Yes, plural.
Couldn't have said it better.
I didn't know how to react when I saw you play Unreal Tournament 2004 in this ol' beast PC. It was one of the few games I remember playing from my childhood. I loved every second of this video. Really grateful for bringing back so many memories.
Dude massive respect, I plan on doing a retro XP build as well for gaming. This is very inspirational. Great content!
OMG can I just say I missed you this past week!? I got used to updates from the office and I kept checking for more every day. Then it hit me that I really really enjoy your delivery of information, even if it's just your daily activities - or maybe especially your daily activities. No weirdness intended.
Do a cap mod to the old power supply to make it work again! That would be a fun video to see.
I agree. I really want to see that power supply work
ye he should replace the caps and then use it
Not too difficult to replace these old caps. That would be the first thing I would do!
I for one am on board (get it?) with that idea, get that unique modular power supply up and running
I love the little captions you put for each game.
The windows 98 and XP builds were super interesting to see. Thanks a million!!
Gives me the feels. First PC I built was around 2000 as everything I had before then was a upgraded prebuilt. I miss this generation and how unacceptably tacky it was. Solid man.
Boy, the first full video in the new space is killer! Well done! Production quality is great!
I've watched your Windows 98 PC bud in 2018 and was excited when I saw you did the same to Windows XP, first OS I ever used
These videos fill me with so much joy and nostalgia. Thank you
I still have the XP machine I built using that exact case, back when it was newly released. I recently updated the machine by replacing the PATA disk with a 120GB SSD using a SATA to PATA interface adapter and now it boots REALLY fast. Great job on the build!
Always love it when an anniversary build comes out, well done sir!!!
You just ran through my childhood here. I was lucky enough to have a crazy father who spent all of his spare money on a beast comp and I'd play it when I used to visit him on the weekends. A lot of our bonding came out of him encouraging me to keep playing Doom 3 even though I was terrified of it. He passed in 2012 and I often think about how he never got to see the games that are around now. He loved Flight Simulator and I just know he'd take out a loan to be build a PC that was able to run the latest release of it. Anyway, this was a nice trip down memory lane. Also, he had the same exact speakers. Thanks for this! Subscribed!
So satisfied to watch!!
Keeps nostalgic moments alive!
Very attractive build. XP is still so fresh in my memory and I have a period HP D530 SFF running it for occasional fun. The new filming studio is working great too. Good luck with it all.
Haha, had to setup an XP machine a few months ago, found that phone activation service thingy and worked perfectly for me too.
Great video! Always cool to see people building older rigs.
Several years ago, I owned that very same Sony DVD+-R drive. Loved it. Had very little trouble burning discs with it!!
I love videos like this, I get excited even for old builds like this, can't wait for the next one!
Oh man, I distinctly remember having that MX700. I loved that mouse. That charging station was so neat back then. Awesome build. Digging the new studio! Also that wizard after the first boot… the music… Windows XP was such a huge part of my youth, so much nostalgia.
I had one too - it was a revelation after using lower resolution mice. But boy did it eat through rechargeable batteries.
Oh man - that case fan with the LEDs shining into the blades... that takes me back.
I was working at an independent computer store around this time. We started carrying case mod and water cooling stuff, and all of us had an informal competition for the coolest modded rig. I built in an aluminum case, water cooled and overclocked a Northwood P4, cut my own window (which came out just slightly better than you would expect), installed cold cathode lights, spray painted my drive bezels silver, and of course replaced all the drive LEDs with white and blue ones. Install StyleXP to use a unique skin, and voila ... maximum early 2000s achieved. 😎
Welp, I'm gettin' old XD.
This build perfectly exemplifies the era I grew up in, great stuff!
I loved this video as well as the 98 build you did! 98 and XP are my 2 favorite vintage versions of Windows ever! I hope to build 98 and XP retro machines soon too! I can't wait for October 25th
A joystick episode with Flight Sim X to really tax it would be interesting, lots of fun flight games around this period
So much soul contained in that shot you used in the total dark playing Doom 3. Great video
As someone who has built a Windows 2000 Professional PC, (With slightly newer parts, While retaining some classics) This is actually amazing. We were all hoping for an XP build. And this here is the most amazing XP computer build I've ever seen. Loved every bit of it.
I absolutely loved everything about this video. You have gained +1 subscriber! I really appreciate your attention to detail, especially the authenticity side of things. I'm glad you installed the sound card before the OS so we got to hear the elusive XP setup theme! PS. That's a mighty fine collection of old CDs you have there on the shelf! I think I even spotted the original RCT from 1999, one of my all-time favorites!! If you were to give this setup an appraisal for the time period, how much would you say it would cost?
Great video Shelby. Looking forward to seeing that PSU with the reactive cables getting repaired.
and that matching case
This is my first time watching a video on your Channel and I find it very humorous that you just conveniently have a shelf with every windows install disc (I’m gonna subscribe now)
I've always wanted to do a similar build with all old stock parts. Awesome vid!
XP gaming builds are the most interesting thing out of all the operating systems I think XP has the most wide variety of hardware I've ever seen which isn't a bad thing makes for fun choices also because of interesting parts you can come across in this era and the fact that it was supported for a really long time.
Here's how to activate windows xp: go to regedit, HK local machine, software, microsoft, windows nt, currentversion, wpa events, oobe timer. Then open the oobe timer folder and modify the oobe timer thing in it. Just spam random things in it. Then it's activated
That was so nice to watch. thanks!
Wow! That Antec case looks pretty nice honestly! And it's quite a nice surprise that Antec's been around for that long.
Very nice build, I really enjoyed this and your Windows 98 new old stock build! Looking forward to the next time when you're gonna do the upgrades, I hope you can recap the PSU and put that CCFL into the case :) Also on a side note, I liked how you illuminated the Doom 3 box with a flashlight in true Doom 3 style ;)
0:36 Hah, the lighting you used for Doom 3 is straight out of Doom 3!
Nice build, nice new studio, great production 10/10 for Tech Tangents =)
hey dude. I discovered your channel by accident from the Doom Multi-monitor video. I'm LOVING your stuff!
Love the build! I wish I had hardware half as good as this back then, my XP experience was on a machine with a 1.8ghz AMD Sempron and onboard graphics, a Geforce 4 MX if I remember correctly. I did try to play Doom 3 on it, it did not go well.
Calling it now. This is gonna be a popular video (relatively speaking). I love old-new builds like this! Thank you!
Oh my god i waited 2 years for this! Thank you so much!
please give this guy award, i almost fainted :D when i was his collection and what an amazing videos he has. This channel truly deserve more support !!!! Looking back at the revolt and Warcraft III big boxes he has, gives me lots of memories back.
YES THIS IS IT I'VE BEEN WAITING ALL YEAR FOR THIS
I went all out with my XP build a few years ago making it my 'end of an era' build using the newest and the best possible hardware to officially support XP. Ended up with a 4790K, a 4 gig GTX 960, Samsung 850 Evo, blah blah blah. The whole idea being to send XP off on the highest note possible and also to ensure that I could run even the latest XP games at their max settings to be able to truly see just how good games of that era could look if you had a system powerful enough to run them maxed out at the time. The irony is that it's more powerful than some entry level modern systems and some of the games I play in excess of a 1000+ FPS lol... But for games like Doom 3, Quake 4, and so forth, the engine they are built off of can actively and evenly use up to four threads. So having a multi-core platform does help especially when you max the settings out.
4 gig graphics for windows xp? thats pretty hardcore ngl
Loved the 98 machine videos, and I love this one too! Even the same runtime!
This video was a great inspiration to me. I love Windows XP now. Thanks for the inspiration.
That glow tho ❤
I remember my brother having two of those XFX 6800GS cards in SLI. Was certainly cool at the time, and for some games it was awesome. The cooler is fantastic and was a friends choice for his Q6600 back in the day - 3.6GHz without any issues. You should absolutely get an X-Fi XtremeGamer (or XtremeMusic) sound card and an AGEIA PhysX card to make this totally pimpin'.
If you want a nice gaming laptop of this vintage I can highly recommend a cheap XPS M1710 (with RGB lights!), the Precision M90 (same machine with Quadro FX equivalent graphics cards and a more serious look), or the Inspiron 9400/E1705 (same machines with lower specced GPUs available and no dock connector, although you can install the beefier graphics cards). Having a Core 2 Duo laptop with a 17" 1920x1200 display and a GeForce Go 7950 GTX for Windows XP/7 is nice.
EDIT: Definitely would like to see a PhysX video - I remember the PCI cards and they're dirt cheap now. They seemed cool at the time (of course) but I never did try one of the dedicated cards.
When I saw this video, I clicked on it immediately. I loved the Windows 98 Build and was wondering if you were going to do a build for Windows XP’s 20th Anniversary. Loved the video and can’t wait for the video of the upgrades!
That absolutely spin-chilling kilotonne dose of nostalgia that hits in the first frame of the video from Midtown Madness 1+2. Time to test my subwoofer again with the menu theme.
Shoutout to LEGO Island, X-Wing Alliance and Rollercoaster Tycoon too!
Here's a great idea for a video
How about replacing the capacitors in the PSU with solid state ones, as well as maybe checking some other hardware for similar issues and fixing them? Call it a Great Plague Cleanup or something
Edit: watched the video to the end, i'm glad you decided to acknowledged the issue. Left the comment because i was kinda partially disappointed that toy just tossed the PSU aside instead of fixing it, since it looks way better than modern ones
That case is SWEEEET!
And that Zalman cooler is such a classic touch.
You sure bring back a lot of memories for me. My first computer was a Packer Bell with a 386 cpu and a 28K dial of modem. The system was running Windows 2.1 and this was at the time we that didn't have a internet as we know now. I think everyone was using AOL at the time as well. Good old DOS days.
Well done mate, really nice vid! The GPU has solid caps, no worries.
I have feeling the 13:37 length wasn’t coincidental.
Do windows 7 Build
I am so envious of this build. That boot time though!
The nostalgia here was intense! From
The login screen and sound to the hardware and games!
Brings back so many happy memories of my AMD 4800+ PC with SLI 7800 GT 512MB each graphics cards. Had the 10k rpm drives to and eventually the velociraptor 15k 150GB HDD and would you believe I still have it to this day and it still works.
Sadly the Acer SLI deluxe motherboard had a Northbridge cooling fan that had a high failure rate, not knowing this mine eventually succumbed to the heat damage 😢
Great video though, subscribed!
those Zalman coolers were so cool! i had one on my VGA (i cant remember the ATI model, but the cooler was a VF1000), i really miss those "creative" coolers Thermaltake also had some pretty funky designs
@@rockapartie that cooler came with little aluminium heatsinks for the vram chips, these days vrm were something that we didn't even know
Oh, that Microsoft keyboard. I had one. It would drop connectivity frequently and repeat keystrokes A LOT. 😂 I imagine that having a different wireless mouse by its side makes it even more glitchy!
Try the original mouse from the kit if you can. It's really not that bad.
It’s usually the usb interrupt - if it’s ps/2 you usually won’t get that problem (but could also be the old school wireless because it was pretty rough back then)
I think I used to rock the very same copper Zalman cooler back in the day!
One of the best builds I had ever run with.
WinXP were excellent and highly customizable!
Thanks for the great video, very nice build and well done with the new parts. Cheers.
I love win xp it’s my favourite os still today
13:37 playtime … sweeeet leet
I like this channel, but what makes it really special for me is the nostalgia and where the old computers and parts take me back to. In 2004 i was 14 and messing around with computers in my room and i was happy, so efin happy🙂
I had that exact same monitor back in the day. It was my first lcd and it lasted until ~2010 when I finally upgraded to my first 16x9 panel. This build was a huge nostalgia trip for me. I had an Alienware with a 3.2ghz hyper threaded P4, Radeon 9800xt, and audigy 2.
That keyboard issue is still present in most laptops, even my "gaming" laptop. Granted it's only with the trackpad, but how have we not fixed that yet?
For laptops, it a sort of palm rejection when typing. So it should be solved by just turning of this setting. Noticed this on my laptop and immediately searched through every setting to get rid of that “feature.”
Would’ve been fitting to see GTA 3 on here, since it’s also in its 20th anniversary
Thankfully for make us see this video. Good job❤
my first custom build was in this case, Sold it stupidly and spent months hunting for it a few years later. I still love it❤
Now overclock it.
this is quite nostalgic.. in the worst possible sense.. xddd
Beautiful build, very well done.
Would’ve loved to have such a beast back then 😄
Doom 3 as a bar to aim for is so good. I remember in 2004 my old man got a new (windows XP) computer just so he could play Doom 3! Really enjoyed this build, I remember being so hyped for the Pentium IV while I still rocked a Pentium III til I could afford to upgrade in 2009.
Also I gotta say, the new office feels right at home. Happy for you dude!
When will we get more office-videos?!
Nobody commemorated the 20th anniversary of Win2000. Literally shaking R/N.
My builds around that time always had that exact Zalman cooler, and whatever $99 Intel motherboard was available. Nice nostalgia trip.
you've done a great work, sir. Appreciate it much
This is really cool to see as someone who never got into pc building until recently
The case looks stunning!
your collection is incredible
The forat build was amazing!! Keep doing this activity. I really like computer builds. I even build my own computer
