It's not only games. A while ago I went on a "digital" movie buying spree with various services (Amazon, Vudu, Popcorn/Xbox360) only to find out half my collection has evaporated because of some licensing change with the mega media outlets and the services. Since then I've only purchased DVD (not BluRay because they can brick your player if they wanted). Think twice or read the fine print before "buying" some digital copy of anything. You'll find out you're actually doing a long-term rental and your rights could be revoked at any time for any reason.

I love how everything is terrible in every domain now. Is there ANYTHING that's gotten better? I mean I just I can run AI image generators locally on my computer and talk to shitty politically correct corpo-speak chatbots.

Guerrilla isnt a good example, as you can probably add the key to Steam and play it there. Guerilla Remastered was also added for free to owners of the original. I am all for game preservation but that for PCs is... Impossible. You need a stable platform like consoles, so emulation can do it's thing. If you want to play your stuff on PCs that are 20y old, yeah... Today you can still enjoy a lot of these or buy them on GoG for single dollars. That is pretty good! P.S.: The Red Faction collection is usually $10 and is now on sale for $1.59. Its 4 games for 1.59... PS2: I actually added Bulletstorm's key to Steam and it also just works.

It's funny this showed up to me when it did. I'm currently talking to my attorney about a lawsuit against steam and Ubisoft in my country. They have been progressively removing all my DLCs from Rocksmith with no prior communication. Not that it would make a difference anyway, consumer protection laws where I live are very strict after all. That's what you get for wanting to do the right thing and actually buying stuff you could just as easily download for free elsewhere

Thats one of many things i like about red dead redemption 2. if the online portion went away you would still be left with an amazing game. not many AAA games like that anymore, most are as you say tied to a server, and when that server dies...............

DOS 3.3 and ProDOS are incompatible. There was also a 13 sector format that is incompatible with them both. CAT works under prodos. CATALOG works under DOS and ProDOS. CAT S6,D2 should get your second drive.

Very cool. I just switched to Linux and the terminal is a bit intimidating. This video does bring me back to the old days when I was in school and those terminals was the only way your could look up certain books in the school and public library. Man I feel old!

The worst part is that most people just say "play new games then" but since gaming has become so mainstream, so many companies have made half assed games with terrible monetization practices only for those same games to go offline years later lol

I buy games to support the developer. If I'm not support the developer but some "owners" ... from moral perspective why to buy? From legal - yeah, kinda shady. But if there are laws protecting companies there should be laws protecting customers from companies turning their purchases into a junk.

Loved this video, the stars aligned there for you to get that terminal working. A couple of months ago I had a Tektronix scope (2235) arrive with the crt broken. I knew it as soon as it arrived, you could hear the "tinkles of doom" when moving the box. That was sad. Messy too, bits of glass in all the packaging. Tektronix themselves recommend at least 3 inches of foam on all sides, it's in the service manuals.

I know its not the most fun topic to cover when compared with fun retro hardware or revisiting favorite games, but i think this is one of your most important videos by far. To me this is one of the biggest problems facing PC gaming as a platform (not that it isn't a risk for consoles going forward as well), it really feels like long term preservation was/isn't even a consideration for most game developers and publishers. and i feel the same way about only really buying old games for the most part nowadays, but don't write off new games completely. There's stuff like pathologic 2, the system shock remake (i know its a remake but still well worth playing) and jagged alliance 3 that are keeping the spirit of old school pc gaming alive and well

Funny you mentioned NFS World, because that was a kickass game and I played that from 2012 up until the servers closed. A year or so later, however, the fans launched their own server. And since then - a few more servers were made by other guys. The one server off the top of my head I can name is the Soapbox server. Everything still runs to this day, and you can play with other people online. It's insane what players can do. And IT'S FREE TO PLAY WITH EVERYTHING UNLOCKED. No more paying for Speedboost like you used to with the original! Suck it, EA!

Ahh the Spaceball 2003. Made by Spacetec IMC in Lowell Mass. It was a six degree of freedom 3d input controller for CAD. Later they made a game controller. I worked for them for a while until they foundered in 1998 or so. I acually have a Spaceball 4000 in my garage; I worked on that product.

This reminds me of a recent experience with a new-old-stock Esprit 400 Terminal. I got lucky and found an ebay listing in the original shipping box with styrofoam packing. I would not have shipped it otherwise. It also has an amber screen and just works with any machine I throw at it. I've used with with a DEC Microvax as well as modern Linux systems. My favorite features are the split screen 'window' mode and PS2 keyboard with (what appear to be) Cherry black switches.

Unless it was recently removed, Amazon sold digital fable 3 codes for Steam, and delisted games are not unplayable, they just can't be purchased normally. I own a steam copy post delisting by buying the digital code online thru amazon, and it works fine, however, DLC has to be pirated, GFWL has to be foregone, and certain features can no longer be completed because online functionality doesn't exist (demon doors, and some various elements that require co-op).
