  • Today I talk about patterns in your photography. They are everywhere in nature, but sometimes they can be hard to find... at least the good ones that will make a compelling photograph. So this is how I go about finding them.
    I suppose you could called this a landscape photography vlog ... but I prefer on location landscape photography!

    Another great video in your series, Mike. My favorite pattern is fish scales. Once you look for it they are all different. Not just the colors or size but the shape of each fish is a slightly different. Stay safe out there.

    Great video and topic, Mike. Patterns are something that I, like a lot of people struggle to find, but are really happy when we find them. I did not realize how impactful they could be until I was in the desert and snapped a photo, only to be mesmerized by the patterned effect. I hope you and yours enjoyed your holiday in Europe. We are looking forward to our holiday next month. I will reach out soon and find out where you guys are pitching your tent. Take care, brother.

    2:56 what a phenomenal frame, Mike, excellent photo!
    If you allow me, I would saturate the outdoor colors and switch the indoor elements into the black and white.
    And the angle of your camera is perfect in this shot.

    How many times can you say 'patterns' in 5 minutes? Challenge accepted!! :)
    Love the irony of the fact that you're talking about the difficulty of finding patterns in nature whilst standing in front of a massive area of bracken. Bit late in the season for the opening fronds, but bracken has some incredible patterns to photograph at any time of year.
    By the way, 2:43 is that a new style capture clip from Peak Design or is it third party? It's totally different to the one I've got.

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Haha!! Good point... I did think that when I was editing this one!! 😆
      I am trying out the backpack clip from Ulanzi/falcam... not sure I like it though, so I might be going back to my trusty old peak design.

      Hey Armin,
      Unfortunately life has gotten in the way and I've had to get a real job. 😫
      I might get back to making videos again someday, but unfortunately I haven't been able to make it get to a point where it was making enough to pay the bills... and when youtube is taking up 60-70 hours in a week, it really needs to pay the bills! 😆
      Thanks for checking in with me though, I really appreciate your kindness. 😁👍

    Please help me to make a decision.
    I have a Nikon d5300. But i wanna step in the Sony's world with Tamron 50-400. I will use my next cam only for landscape. Can A7ii produce a same sharp images compare with the A7iii?
    Thank you

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes it can, but the difference between the A7ii and a7iii is huge when it comes to focussing ability, battery power and general ease of use.
      If you can afford to get the A7iii, I would very much recommend that over the A7ii.

    Hi Mike, not related to this video but I do have a question that I think you’re probably best to answer.
    I’ll be travelling for a long period of time soon and will be capturing lots of images from a range of different locations for use in a large timelapse sequence. As I intend on shooting RAW and currently only have one 64GB SD card, I’d like to get your take on what the best method to store all these RAW files would be?
    The card can store approx 2000 photos when shooting RAW and I’ve worked out that each shoot should be around 300-400 frames, meaning I could shoot in around 5 or 6 different locations before I have to store these files somewhere safe and clear the card.
    I intend on sorting and editing all these images after my travelling, which means that some files would require to be stored for up to 9 months. What would you recommend is the best method to store these RAW files?
    Thanks very much for your help!

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Good question.
      I use the WD external hard drives to store my photos on and thy seem to work well. The SSDs are faster, but more expensive.
      I have a whole stack of these: geni.us/WDharddrive
      ... and I make sure I have two copies on separate drives so if one was to fail, I'd have a backup.
      I hope that helps.

    • @bellat76
      @bellat76 Před 10 měsíci

      @@mikesphotography Thanks for your response.
      Sounds like the perfect strategy - the SSDs are definitely on the pricey side. Those 2TB WD hard drives seem like the best solution and should be the right amount of storage for approx 15,000-20,000 RAW uncompressed files (not ran the maths yet, hope my guesswork is right!).
      Agree with you on the two copies for sure - the price of two 2TB drives seems reasonably priced too.
      Thanks again for the help!
