Visual Hierarchy - What is the MOST IMPORTANT Thing in Your Photograph? - Episode 1
Vložit

- Today I talk about how to make the subject in your photo the most important thing.
You can use scale, colour, size and many more things to give your main subject weight, but make sure you are giving all this importance to the right thing, otherwise your photos might become a little confusing.
I suppose you could called this a landscape photography vlog ... but I prefer on location landscape photography!

Really good advice for all of us. Things that beginners might not already know and things that experienced amateurs might miss out on now and again.
Thanks so much Simon!!
As always thanks for watching 😁👍
I have seen so many „ultimate guides“ to photography when i started and even now. Yes, they helped a lot at that time, but they were never putting together all the keys which are important to a picture itself. In this video i cant miss a thing. Well done video! I will refer to this video in the future if somebody is asking me for the real ultimate guide of photography 🙏🏻 thanks again Mike!
Thanks so much for your kind words! Great to hear it makes sense and that it has helped!!
Thanks for watching 😁👍
After some videos on your channel which I Personal did not like This one is again great. Less b-roll and gap filler, great Information and good example to understand your thoughts. Really nailed it. Thanks a lot, Mike.
Thanks for your honesty Jehudale, and great to hear you liked this one. The rest in the series are going to be exactly like this one, so hopefully you'll like those as well.
Thanks for watching 😁👍
Great video! As someone just starting their photography journey, I'm finding your videos so easy to understand and follow. Thank you!
That's great to hear Scott. There is a lot to learn in photography but if you take it step by step and be patient, you will get there... and hopefully this series will really help you with your photography.
Thanks for watching 😁👍
101K 🎉🎉🎉 congrats. Leave it to Mike to combine lessons in composition and evolution😊. Nice. Another way to establish hierarchy is to make photos more like Mike’s thumbnails by adding arrows and labels (look here!). Just kidding. Lots of standard good compositional tips in this vid. Table, too.
Challenge is combining elements for viewers in hierarchy that matches ours.
No, I don’t want to go to the moon.
Mike and Henry both at 1PM this time - inside joke. Cheers!
Haha!! Me and Henry were in sync this week!! 😆
It is all about those sabre tooth tigers these days... I was tempted to point an arrow at the text in the thumbnail... they really are the bane of my life!! 😆😆😆
As always thanks for watching Paul 😁👍
Another briliant video Mike
Thanks very much Linda!
As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Great tips/ Never really thought of hierarchy!
Thanks so much Kevin! It is a really interesting topic... Watching movies is good for this, to see what the director wanted to be the most important thing in the frame... my wife hates it when I keep commenting on mistakes or cinematic marvels!! 😆
As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Thanks so much for sharing another wonderful video like always Mike, keep up with the awesome content 👍👌
No worries my friend, Thanks so much for watching, liking and commenting, much appreciated 😁👍
short and to the point. Love how you explain complex matters in a simple understanding way 👍
That's great to hear it all made sense!!
Thanks for watching 😁👍
Excellent topic Mike. Thanks!
No worries, thanks for watching!! 😁👍
Another great video, many thanks for sharing these tips
No worries Robert!
As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Hi Mike, thanks again for another marvelous video. The scenery around you looks so inviting and it looks like you know how to embrace it
Thanks so much!! I love heading up into the mountains here in Wales ... so much to see and do ... and I've found a few new locations for this series!!
Thanks for watching 😁👍
Real food for thought there, Mike. Thanks! Lots of ideas in my head ready for my next outing.
Now that's what I like to hear!! Let me know how you get on, and make sure you don't miss out on the rest of the series ... lots more to come over the next ten weeks!!
Thanks for watching 😁👍
Nice ,, great stuff Mike keep them coming,, learning a lot from your channel much appreciated,
Great to hear!! Lots more to come this summer!
As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Another good video and tips Mike
Thanks so much Lyn!! 😁👍
*Taking notes* 😂 great video refresher on being mindful and intentional with what we place and retain in an image. Also, awesome sample shots Mike!
Thanks so much Keith! It is all about that mindfulness... being in the moment, and seeing what you can get out of the scene... as well as just enjoying it.
As always thanks for watching my friend 😁👍
Great tips as always 👌
Thanks Sue! 😀👍
Another great video, Mike. I struggle with this from time to time and gets on my nerves. I will 100% watch your series on composition. Still jet lagged now that I am back in Japan but glad to be home. Stay safe out there.
Great to hear you had a safe flight! I bet the jetlag is a killer ... time to sleep for a day or so to get back into the Japanese timezone!!
As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Awesome video. Thankyou.
No worries, thanks for watching Liz!! 😁👍
Great video Mike!
Instructional, creative, and as motivational as always!
Thanks so much!! ... and thanks for watching 😁👍
Really succinct and helpful expose of some of the basics of composition Mike. You always explain stuff really well.
Thanks so much James!! 😁👍
Yet another fantastic video Mike! 👏 Thanks for the insights & tips as usual! 🙏
Thanks so much Kevin, great to hear you liked this one.
Thanks for watching 😁👍
lovely
Thanks so much!!
Very useful and informative video sir.... You nailed it...❤❤
Thanks so much my friend!! 😁👍
Great tips, Mike. This is always a struggle for me, as I get so excited about being in a place where the conditions are great, that I move too fast and forget about how much the composition really matters. I will look forward to your series. Our trip is all planned out, bookings made and tickets purchased. Now it is just a waiting game. When we get closer, I will reach out and see where you guys are at. We will work out a time and place to meet up. I hope all is going well, brother. I see you are up to 101K. Now you are just showing off.
Most definitely!! Looking forward to meeting up when you finally get here!! If we get the right dates, I might even be up in the mountains... so a beer and a hike!! 😁👍
@@mikesphotography Sounds great. And for God's sake, you are a Welshman, there should always be an "s" on the end of the word beer. I forgive you, as I know a word with that many vowels is difficult for the Welsh.
@@stephenwoodburn2970 Hahaha!! Good point... 😄 ... We struggle with any letter that sounds too soft!!!
Thank you
Nice one I learned a thing or two there
Great to hear Mark!! It is a really interesting part of photography that not many people talk about.
Thanks for watching 😁👍
Ah, the ferns and rusty metalwork! I have similar photos from that location though I do think mine are better 😂😉. Nice video mate and great explanations. I do like to use b&w where I can. 👍🏼
Haha!! Well I saw the back of your camera so I'm not too sure about that... 😆😆
I ended up going back to that location when it was under cloud ... its really cool with the fog blowing through the buildings... if only you'd have got the deluxe package ... 🤔😘
Hope all is good with you and training is going well. 👍
@mikesphotography all good here mate, everything still on track 👍🏼. I'm bot ready for the deluxe edition, still working through all the homework you set me 😉🤣. I seem to recall that we, too, had plenty of fog on our shoot - it just arrived at the wrong location. Nice walk though 🤦🏻♂️😊
Great tips.🙂
Thanks very much Mark!
long time not seen, hope all is well at your end?
I really struggle with this issue. I go out taking photos with the wife and she always gets it spot on and I dont.
That happens to me from time to time... I either copy what she took, or I ask her why she framed it up as she did... She's taught me a thing or two about photography!! 😁
It also happens when you go out with other photographers. On some of the workshops I run, I'll look at the photos other people have taken and think they are fantastic compared to mine.
Part of it could also be that self doubt and self criticism... I sometimes think my photos are worse than they actually are, and look at others and think they are always better than mine.
The main thing is to keep going out and keep shooting, and then learn from everyone and anyone around you.
Thanks for watching 😁👍
Hello Mike. No video from you for a long time. I hope everything is fine with you.
Another useful video. Can I ask if your planning on doing any astrophotography videos any time soon?
I don't have any planned at the moment, but as the nights get longer here, hopefully I'll be able to get out under the stars. 👍
have you written a book yet ? amazing teaching mate
Not yet... 🤔
Thanks so much, and thanks for watching 😁👍
👍
😁👍
Eilean Donan looks stunning. Am I a bad person, for thinking how to grade that image in video editing software, like Resolve, with an Orange and Teal grade?😇
Is that Andromeda next to the Milky Way at 4:33?
The fuzzy blob at the 8 o'clock position is the Large Magellanic Cloud.
@@petebrandon. Cheers for that. I just could not put my finger on why it did not seem right.
It was amazing that I didn't actually have to do much editing to the Eilean Donan shot... the lights were very warm and the blue hour was magnificent!!
That astro shot was taken in NZ... it's not andromeda... I think it is the Carina Nebula.
As always thanks for watching 😁👍
Ah wait ... Peter got it right ... and I got it completely wrong!! lol
@@mikesphotography I knew that was a southern hemisphere shot but I honestly thought you'd used a stock image for that particular segment! How wrong I was.. cracking job on that astro image (& your video content is stellar too). Top tog 😁
Hello Mike...you mean Robert Capa...
Lol... Frank Capa!! 😆🤦🏻♂️ I think that was a late night editing mistake!!
Once again, Google ai deleted comments...
Strange ... normally it puts them in a held for review folder but there's nothing in there.
What did you want to say!?
