- Today I talk about my favourite subject in photography, leading lines! I always look for these and they can really add a lot to your photograph when done properly.
I suppose you could called this a landscape photography vlog ... but I prefer on location landscape photography!

Spot on man, I really have to get in the habit of checking before I leave the location. I always have sets of photos where I thought I got that shot. Then I realize I goofed and was slightly off. Yikes. Haha.
Hey dude! I hope all is good with you!! It is so easy to leave the location and then look at the photos afterwards and see where you should have stood! 😆 I still do it sometimes and kick myself when I do!!
The key to get around it is to shoot the hell out of the subject... and then when you are editing, look for patterns... are there things you always miss, or are there ones you always like... then make a note of them and remember to read those notes when you are out shooting next. This seems to work for me and helps me get better photographs as well as being more efficient.

One of the trademarks elements of your videos are you always support your theoretical elements with appropriate images you made; however, I've just found out that the background of your videos are also very supportive in that way.
0:28 you are talking about leading lines and I see immediately plenty of them behind your back. Just an example, there a lots of them in the same manner in this clip.

I am really enjoying this series, Mike. Leading lines can really make a good photo great. I try to incorporate them whenever I can. I will look forward to the negative space video next week. I have been on a minimalist kick lately, so that will be right up my alley. 5 weeks left to master the Welsh language. It is going fjkwxbvdhgwq. If I am not mistaken, that is "good" in Welsh. If not, English it will be... Hope you are well, my friend.

Nice Video!! I like to use the railing on the ship when im sailing or other design features that can work as a leading line. I also use some railings on land that points towards the ships, and i use the orange/yellow lines where the mooring bollard's are, and the mooring lines too toward's the ships!! 😁And sand trails on the beach or road's 😊

Fantastic series Mike! I look forward to your weekly presentations focusing (pun) on various elements of landscape photography. I really like your bridge-leading line image to the Milky Way!. One question - As you evolved as a landscape photographer I get a sense you are using more telephoto/zoom lenses in your work than when you starting out. True?
Hey Jim, Great to hear you like my latest series.
This is true... and it is down to the practicalities of landscape photography and hiking to far off locations.
I much prefer to have a couple of lenses at most to be able to hike further, or just to make the experience more enjoyable, instead of lugging around a packed and heavy camera bag... and with the way photography is going, it is more about displaying your photos on line than selling prints.
Although in saying that, I have been more than happy with the printed results I get from the tamron lenses.

Almost skipped this one. Topic has been so frequently and thoroughly covered on YT and elsewhere that my sense is that it would be challenging to come up w/new “perspectives” or “slants”. Wet road bit was different, though. AI can add that boat in the lake - final image is your own creation.
Hi Mike: Another great video. Thanks for creating and sharing. The use of leading lines is something that I always try to consider but when I can't employ them in the capture, I do notice that the image isn't as strong as it could be. Cheers, Keith (Canada)
