My husband doesn't understand the joy I get from a new set of pencils. The swatching, the putting them into a case, etc. I'm either buying these or the Brutfuner squares next.
A few months ago I reorganized my Star Joys by color family (Colour by Claire). It’s really helped me pick colors and I’m reaching for these pencils much more now. If you have problems with the numerical order, you might want to try Claire’s order. It just makes more sense to my eyes.
I did that too! I prefer them by color family too and Claire's chart works perfectly for that.

Hi Lucy! I have the original Star Joy and Lori’s version, Star Joy Gold. I enjoy using both, but especially the Gold Edition. They are truly beautiful pencils and really give you the color payoff we colorist look for in a set. My rule of thumb for colored pencils and paper. Cheap(er) pencils on Amazon printed paper and the higher-end pencils on better card and weight papers.
As always, you are a delight and I too share your excitement for new sets and swatching. I’m probably approaching 50 or more sets of pencils at this point. Addiction? Maybe. Helluva good time? Absolutely!

I do love My SJ-G pencils! In fact, for road trips, they’re the one set I take along with me. If something were to happen to them, such as being lost in transit, they’re easily replaced with my budget. I love the way they work together. Blending is easy, and they teach color theory to beginners like I still consider myself to be. I enjoyed watching you explore and enjoy them so much! I also love swatching new pencils! I love smelling them, sharpening them, and coloring with them! And I enjoy watching you explore them too!
My enclosed swatch chart had additional pages with the color meant to be put in a border around a rectangle that you’re supposed to use an exacto knife and cut out. Then when you’re choosing colors, you can put the border around the plain rectangle swatch and see how they would work together. I’ve never seen that with any other pencil set.
Yes, I’ve had that happen only once in about 10 sets of pencils. It was in my 560 set of Brutfuners that came in 2 huge boxes! I didn’t bother asking for a replacement because there were so many pencils already. But if we you contact Amazon or Star-Joy, they will probably send you the missing pencil., or maybe send you a new complete set since they can’t be purchased open stock. I’ve seen other colorists have missing or problematic pencils replaced. Give that a try. And yes, that missing color is gorgeous!
Yes, I don’t have the Teddy Bear Therapy, but I love watching you color - so pick that one, or any one, and I’m here with you. I love ne some Lucy!!!

Gosh I really feel for you guys in the UK, fancy having to wait as long as this to get your SJ's at a halfway decent price! Email Lori for your missing pencil! I must admit, I followed Lori at every step of creating this set. At the last minute she changed some of the colours in the set, and maybe that's why (to my eyes) some of the trios aren't perfect. Check out for example, Aquaman and Melody Blue. Very very similar. I rearranged mine to make sense to me. Her setup is great for beginners, and it's cool that she thought to categorize in Skin, Muted Pastels, Jewels, Colour Correction etc. BTW I'm in NZ and got 3 of the first 100 sets...and I'm responsible for the Galaxy Blue name. Yes that was the reason why white wasn't included, it was put to the vote by us.. Lori recommends using a Derwent Drawing Chinese White, or Prisma white. Interesting trivia: Check the pastel shades against the Macaron sets!
Good job on the swatch sheet...having the numbers, especially separate from the name, really does it easier to find the right pencil for a lot of us! Is there nothing better than a set of new pencils and getting to swatch them!!!???!??!!!!! I absolutely agree with everything you said about these pencils...the set is missing a really good red, but I love all of the other colors in the set. I'm really looking forward to seeing you color with these. Thanks for the video, so much fun!

I had a duplicate grey and they wouldn't send me the missing one. So not so good in my opinion.

I can honestly say I have never felt my coloring was sufficiently sophisticated to require “correcting.” I’m missing out somewhere. I never paint people. I have all the tools but not so much patience or motivation. Then I started using my coloring pages as greeting cards. I’m happier now.🤓 Ok. So I’m ordering these for myself and my granddaughter. Amazon US has a coupon.👍
If your friend that purchased the pencils contacts the manufacturer and they will either send you out the missing pencil or they'll send you an entirely new set either way you get what you're missing and that's the right way to do business. My opinion that green ochre would be imperative to doing anything leaves
I just got this set in June. I figured it would help this beginner with learning color blending, especially being color blind to darker colors it’s a no muss, no fuss for me. Colors are already grouped for blending so I can’t wait to play around with these pencils. Whatever you decide to color I’ll be here waiting. Tfs, til next time!!!!

The S on the pencils stands for skintones😊 and the MP for Muted Pastel. You can see it on the back on the colorchart. 😊I love these pencils😊
I had that happen with my first and only set of Prismacolors. I got 2 Black Grapes and was missing the mahogany

Lori's subscribers named the pencils. I had a duplicate of a grey in my Star-Joy Gold set. I contacted Andy, but he wouldn't replace it!. But he did say that they didn't have enough of that grey to replace it. Loads of people have had duplicates in their sets.

I have this set. I bought it to satisfy my curiosity about oil pencils. Amazingly, the thing I don't like about them is the large core. For the way I color, I prefer slimmer cores to my pencils. Other than that, they perform well.

Lucy they look lovely I have the 120 star joy set I got a long time before they went to 72 set.. I’m very tempted to buy the gold set but I just brought the Pablo 80 set and working to complete the set.. ❤❤❤😊😊😊xxxx

I had a missing pencil in my Derwent Artist set. I believe it's a pinkish colour, and in its place, I received another grey pencil. Which is great (not), because I never use grey 😅... I can order the missing one as open stock, I think. Derwent have a distinct lack of quality control, with paint flaking off, split barrels, etc. I don't think I've ever received a Derwent set that was as it should be.
I wish SJ were available in Europe, almost 100usd to get them over here. Beautiful colors, much nicer selection than Arrtx. Thank you for sharing.

Palomino is a color of horses, not a specific breed. Usually a golden color with white or cream mane and tail.
They do look like a nice set but I couldn't be asked with all the code faff! Would have to put them in my preferred colour order...but that's just me!
While I love the idea, I too, don’t really want to mess with complicated codes. I also really prefer water color pencils, but these are pretty wonderful. I don’t think I have any oil pencils.🤔 Imagine the person who figured all this out🤩

Hi my lovely dear friend Lucy!!❤ I had such a long and challenging last two days at work so much so, it weighed so heavily on my mind that my anxiety has kept me up. It’s now 4:09 a.m.on Friday and I have to be back at the law firm for 8:30 am. and work Until 5:00 p.m. tonight. My job is sometimes extremely stressfully and my 32 years of being a paralegal and taking a new job and doing a different type of law and computer systems with this new Firm going on almost 3 months due to my old boss who is retiring and this attorney matched my salary of $ 23.50 dollars an hour, $150.00 a month for parking and $1,300.00 dollars a month for health insurance. I’m a 55 year old widow with a bad back and joints and can’t do manual labor, stand or sit for long periods of time and have limited computer skills but nothing like today’s generation, so where am I going?
I became a young widow at age 49 when I lost my husband and soulmate of 25 years back on 10/30/2017 at 10:35 pm . We never had children, but we have 1 cat our Bella ( my profile picture) she is my life. We lost our 3000sq foot Victorian house with its fully furnished contents and I was forced to move in a noisy 900 square foot apartment which I now rent. He was a wonderful police chief and had 1 year to go before he could collect his pension but he got sick and after putting his life on the line for the borough for 27 years he got nothing! I’m not living , Lucy, I’m surviving one minute at a time. This is an especially a bad time because he went into the hospital on 9/13/2017 and never came out. He passed away on 10/30/2017 at 10:35 p.m My life has never been the same.
These last 2 days at work the pressure, anxiety, stress, and my depression levels are pushing me towards a massive-crash! I’m trying to get the most out of my medications, friends , meditation , counseling , and hobbies but my anxiety depression and stress levels are off the rails and I’m not at all being gentle or kind to my self. The only positive things that I could come up with when I’m journaling are that I’m glad it’s a Friday and payday and maybe I’ll treat myself to a new coloring book and that I survived anther week at work if I make it through today without any events. Secondly I logged onto CZcams and saw your video and finally, understood after over 2 years of how to use the Starjoy Gold pencils and I can start using them! And finally I’m going to stop get the basics for the weekend and for lunches, put on pjs and watch CZcams coloring videos all week, color, swatch create and relax ! ❤forward to going for just the basics food items for lunch next week, color, watch coloring on CZcams and relax.
For a little over two years maybe even more I’ve watched so many videos on CZcams trying to understand people explain how to use them and they never made sense to me until watching your video today! I’m so excited to try it you’re way because I now understand it! Have wonderful day and thank you for sharing your amazing artistic talent! I’m sure she will will be more than willing to do whatever is possible to make good on the pencil. She stands for quality and especially if she has something to do with it! The most she can tell you is “ no I’m so sorry theres nothing that I can do.” Or maybe who knows what else? Right?
