I am noticing you doing better and better reviews. I love the increased focus on tech specs here. Love seeing you mention the Mbps bitrate. I will be picking this up using the affiliate link.
Agreed 👍
Glad to see you add what the special features are also, like the new concept. My copy shipped this week so hopefully it arrives soon.
*Legendary!*
🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Happy to see reviews on these older movies and how well/badly they produced it
This was first movie I saw at a drive in, good memories
Would love to see The Killer getting a proper 4K treatment
Asia movie difficult as they seldom preserve properly
Noticed a lot of Gina Gershon and Brooke Adams on 4k this year and I'm not complainin
Thx a lot for the review
Great review! I pre-ordered a copy since they have it back in stock. Can you release a 4k vs. bluray comparison video so we can see the differences?
Thanks for your review been waiting for it haven't got my copy yet from Amazon pre-order it last week and they said not till January 19th
Thanks for the review. I am getting mine today. Cannot wait! I will watch it on my Sony x800m2 over The ubp820 for DV.
The film where Daniel Peter Masterson played himself 😅
From the stills it looks great. Thanks for sharing. I own the BD. We need the other icons The Rock, Twister, Con Air, Crimson Tide.
Forgot to mention Broken Arrow too.
Thank you for mentioning the bonus features!!
This is a John Woo movie. With all of the trademarks. I have it on bluray along with Hard Target and Broken Arrow. It's a great movie even if the premise is somewhat preposterous
My copy finally arrived today, excited to give it a watch!!
Definitely getting this in the upcoming kino sales
Change in way of presentation is welcome and good. However, you should appear once in between somewhere as you feel right.
Hi Adam, will this be the new standard for the "deus quad?"
I'm still rocking the old HD-DVD version. I have this on order, but it won't arrive until this Thursday. Amazon seems to have issue getting their discs on time. Great review, thanks for the Panasonic update.
It seems like almost every time I order 4K movies from Amazon, I always have to return them because either the slipcovers are damaged or it doesn't have a slipcover at all, and the discs are loose from the hub. Today I received Point Break (the original) without a slipcover, and it's being returned.
Thanks Adam.
What configuration is your setup Adam?
This was a day 1 purchase for me! One of my favorite Nicolas Cage movies!!
Why the hell is KL stuffing us around with their Dolby Vision encodes when all other 4Ks play fine on Panasonics? Thanks for checking and calling them out. Very wary of KL now...
It was john woo at his peak so are both the film stars !
Weird title for Kino IMO; the Blu-ray is good enough for me.
If I recall, the Blu-ray had a lossy DTS mix on it....I don't even think it was lossless via Master Audio/TrueHD. With regard to the audio on this 4K, this is a Kino Lorber thing, as far as I know - most of their releases come with a simple 5.1 DTS MA track, the way Scream Factorys discs always did.
The blu-ray was horrendous (I know because I bought it day 1 back in the day). You're right that the audio was a lossy DTS mix, so this DTS-HD MA track is already an improvement, even if it went from 6.1 to 5.1.
@@zanfear I'm not a huge fan of the film, so from what I can remember, the transfer was good enough for me (I haven't watched it in some time). That's just my personal opinion.
As for the audio, I have found that many Blu-rays with lossy tracks don't sound as bad as everyone makes them out to be - don't forget, lossy Dolby and DTS tracks on a 1080p Blu-ray run at higher bitrates compared to DVDs, so there's usually an improvement right there. Not saying that all BDs with lossy tracks sound awesome (they gotta be old) but with stuff like Superman Returns (Dolby Digital 5.1 on the original Blu), Michael Clayton (DD 5.1 on the Blu) and Face/Off (IMO), the audio was plenty effective.
Can someone confirm if the blu ray disc included is region free?
7.2.2 setup or 7.2.4?
Can you still see the stings pulling the stunt actors from shotgun blasts? In the airplane hanger scene
Yeah.
Ordered this! Question, why no review of “The Creator” by ANYONE?!?! I found it to be surprisingly good. Is it because of the Disney thing?
Well my copy shipped late and I still haven’t gotten it yet. I’m anxious to watch it myself.
I have a Panasonic 820 and I was wondering which other KL discs you noticed problem on
Pretty much most of Kino 4K discs that support DV. I’ve seen a lot of others that have experienced the same issues.
Hard Target
I would say at least 50% of them have issues with DV. Shout has this issue sometimes as well. DV works great on the Sony x800m2 though.
Just checked out a few of my Kino Discs and apart from the noticeable appearance of grain in DV, there really isn’t much of a difference in the brightness between DV and HDR10.
I noticed it on Hard Target, but it's honestly not that annoying to me. I've also seen it on streaming platforms as well, I remember it happened on an episode of Cobra Kai. I'm just glad we got these titles on 4K UHD.
I'm watching it right now on my Panasonic 820. Dolby Vision is automatically enabled. You propose turning it off for this film?
If the brightness shifts bother you than yes. If not, it’s fine to leave it.
I think you can switch it off in the settings menu
@@spaceodds1985 You can yes
@@MovieGuy365 Thanks for clarifying. I see what you mean. Allowed HDR only and no more shifts.
Panasonic UB9000 or UB820?
820, but I’ve heard it affects the 9000 series too.
They are pretty much identical except for some audio connections and the chassis
I love face-off ❤️ 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have a Oppo 203 and a Panasonic 820 and I think the Panasonic looks better than the Oppo in general. By Oppo being an old 4K Blu-ray player and it's no longer being updated, I've noticed the picture quality on the Oppo is beginning to degrade and having playability issues. I was thinking about selling it.
Why aren’t you in the video?
Trying a new format for reviews.
Seems rather fitting for face/off
THIS RELEASE IS A PURE "DISASTER"! They corrected it vertically but CROPPED so heavily on the sides that all cinescope-feel and the vision of the director and cinematograph was destroyed! King Lorber should not get any other movie-rights!
Did anyone else have lip sync issues with this 4k
Such a guilty pleasure movie
I don't know anything about this film. Why do you call it that?
@@victoralvarez9459 very cheesy overacting by Travolta and Cage, very thin plot, and cringy dialogue. But I still love it🤣😅
Too bad it wasn't steelbook slip cover
🤟🏻😎🤟🏻
I still can’t believe they chose her as Travolta’s wife!
Looked more
like his mom
Absurd movie!
In a good way !!!
It was absurd even when it first came out. It’s enjoyable as hell though.
It's a classic and easily Woos best American effort.
I’ll pass. Love this movie. But no atmos 😢
