@@WhimsicalLittledawg yeah, the others seemed like actual or artist renditions of corpses, that one was something different, it didnt fit in with the other paintings. That difference was so unsettling even when the image itself wasnt as impactful. It also paints a haunting picture (no pun intended) of what the actual corpse could've looked like.

Fun fact about the number: 985 is the area code used in Southeastern Louisiana excluding the inner ring of New Orleans and this code was created in 2001 but discontinued in 2007 and switched the area code back to 504 so this series takes place in 2001-2007 somewhere in Louisiana

So, it for sure takes place after 2001 and is surrounding the new orleans area. this means we could possibly have 2 horror series/universes set in tangipahoa lol
edit: nvm. I looked up the Tiger Lake that was mentioned and its in Alexandria (area code 318) which is decently far away from the 985 area code. So, its likely the killer has been all over Louisiana

Damn, I was wondering when Goose was gonna cover this. Such a fresh take on the analog horror. No supernatural elements, no cosmic interferences. Just a ruthless serial killer who creates mocking illustrations of his victims. Truly unsettling.
Just what I like
I also love that the killer themself is left mysterious, it's not like some series where the first episode explains what the thing is and what it does, we know what the killer leaves behind and we have a couple vague images, and that's about it. It even *could* be a supernatural entity, but if it is that element isn't shoved in our faces.
I do like documentary-style spooky stuff, but it's more "interesting" than "unsettling" to me most of the time, and the worldbuilding needs to be pretty good if they're taking that approach.
The fact that there's no alternative motive just a broski mutilating people

EDIT: I also just find it impressive how they took a moment that comes off so memey and out-of-place on the first viewing and made it legitimately horrifying in retrospect.

I went to look at the channel again since I've already seen all the episodes, and I was laughing at "F* toy Cory" for a second before looking at the other screen and seeing "Cory Beck age 11" and I actually went "Oh God" out loud. By far the most disturbing and unsettling series I've seen in a long time, and all with original art, too.

as a csa survivor I genuinely just stopped watching this series after the creator put such violent csa content in his series, not to mention he put the painting of said csa victim on a shirt and is selling it, selling the depiction of a csa victim who was violently tortured for nothing but shock value. It truly makes me annoyed that people get a pass for that, the whole series hinges on nothing but being as fucked up as possible, its not even horror at this point, its like a group of 14 year old boys decided to get together and see how fucked up they could make something
Not even to mention his old animations which were filled with p/dophilia and r/pe
i was initially kind of fine with it since murders involving csa happen but hearing that he put it on a shirt was wild. i'm not that phased though, since i'm a death metal fan (especially infant annihilator) and... well.. doing awful things to children is literally in their name lol. super talented and sweet guys though.

It has some genuinely creepy paintings and plot but the generic analog horror, the "photos", and the sheer absurdness of it all makes it come off as absurdist dark humor

as someone who deals with slight paranoia, the ending "you're gonna be alright" with lofi does help after some of these videos get to me. i don't know if that's the intent behind the message, but it really does help. now i can get my horror fix and still have a silver lining
(before anyone asks, even though i do sometimes struggle with paranoia, it's very specific things that sets me off. i watch horror because i enjoy horror, and if it is something that sets me off, i try to watch as "exposure therapy," then i go and watch something light hearted to clear my mind)
You see these paintings *specifically* named after the victims and the method they were killed/tortured, and not once did anyone get the hint that Cory’s painting was of someone the killer(s) had raped?
Hey, there are real world examples along similar lines; just look up that one "artist" that does "spirit cooking", or the various artworks Podesta and other elites choose to keep in their homes. It's all plausible deniability and "it's just zany art people being cooky!" but e.g. making cakes that resemble dead bodies, or keeping weird statues of children crosses the line into: "yeah, I bet you're involved in some fucked up shit" territory.

Urban spook shouldn't be getting any attention. They use topics such as child grape just for shock value and have gone so far as to even make merch surrounding those particular paintings. The concept yes is unique but has no actual plot besides "ooo scary guy paints victim".

UrbanSpook has to have one of the freshest takes on the genre in recent memory. Most Analog Horror have kind of fallen into a rut at this point but this one keeps the genre fresh with its ambient atmosphere and lack of jumpscares.

I love how, like, weird and f'ed up the killer's methods are; in a lot of horror stuff it'll just be like, "they always make you k!ll yourself" or "they always rip your throat out", but here they're varied and all twisted.

This series is awesome, especially since you can visibly see there are at least 2 serial killers. One is the one who assaulted Cory so badly that he ended up dying at the end and whose sister got bludgeoned with a brick before the two were sewn together post mortem ("Fucktoy Cory" and "Scream Maggy Scream"), aka the art style has reds/blues/pales and has notable flesh weight depicted in all of his art pieces. The other killer, who just recently now has a police sketch, does stipling (dot shading and lineart), blacks/whites/blues, and is the one who is responsible for the drug kills and for cutting off that woman's feet and hands.
So there is a minimum of two, there is different brush strokes involved and that's the entire point of the series. I dunno, it's awesome.
Im all for horror going all out, but urban spook just doesn't feel interesting to me. To be honest its presented boringly, and feels like its just shock value for the sake of shock value. Its like watching one of the terrifier movies, sure its gory, and very unsettling, but is there any substance it aside from that, not really.

If there's anything I think analog horror needs to take inspiration from, it's this public access show called The Asylum for Shut-Ins. It's a crazy as hell show that makes you question your own obsession for finding messed up stuff, as well as providing a delightfully devilish host. Honestly, public access in general is a gold mine of inspiration for analog horror that nobody's digging in, but I think the Asylum for Shut-Ins is something special for horror lovers.
