    My mother is from a town extremely close to onion town. At her highschool, one of the lunch ladies was actually from there. According to her, many of her peers relentlessly bullied the poor lady for both being from onion town and having a physical deformity. My mom befriended her and she turned out to be one of the kindest ladies she's ever met, regardless of the negative "animalistic" stereotype of the inhabitants of onion town. These people are not animals, and deserve basic human decency. Her boyfriend in highschool also happened to live in oniontown, and he was a kind individual as well. Regardless of being extremely impoverished and despite the negative stigma, the people of oniontown my mom has interacted with have been nothing but kind. Honestly, if I had people drive out to rural NY to make fun of me for living in a certain town, I bet I would be sick of it too!!

      🙄Eehh, _that's_ just normal All-American teenage boy "Machismo".
      Or, as the -increasingly stupid- feminists like to call it,
      😑"Toxic Masculinity".
      Likely, he was just trying to impress the girls with his self-percieved (and ultimately misguided) sense of bravery whilst hamming it up for the camera.
      Sure, it's HELLLLLA dumb, but it's not _malicious._
      And to call him a "terrible person" is a bit much,
      though I can see where someone could make that argument as his actions _were_ careless & woefully ignorant at best.
      But why are you painting it like the 2 _other_ girls are these "frightened innocent little victims helplessly thrown into danger" or some shit?
      They are JUST as much to blame as the dumb guy, if not *moreso* since it _was_ one of the chicks driving (while smoking pot I might add).
      If anything, it seems _the girls_ were the ones orchestrating (and therefore at fault for) the ENTIRE DEBACLE;
      It was one of _the girls_ that drove the vehicle into OnionTown like some sort of human safari,
      one of _the girls_ asking the locals nosey/blatantly disrespectful questions *about people she did not know,*
      one of _the girls_ who while on camera, chose to "Other" the citizens of OnionTown by calling them "a different breed";
      What's a mere *horn honk* to all THAT?
      This was entirely the fault *of the two other **_girls._*
      And as a result, they egged on the guy to behave in the same careless manner that ended up terrifying them.
      It wasn't that their actions werent at least as _equally_ careless as that of the male,
      It was that his 1 action was _upfront_ instead of "behind-the-back",
      creating immediate consequences where theirs didn't.
      And really, WTF did they expect when they went out of their way to paint these isolated human beings as animals to be gawked at;
      As mere _tools_ for their excitingly "spooky" little roadtrip?
      They set the entire thing up in a way that 100% shows how they view these people:
      *as a roadside attraction,* some sort of *freak* show exists solely for the purpose of *_entertaining them._*
      Of course after all this the guy is gonna behave In a way that reflects their preconceived ideas of the place,
      The town is their _amusement_ park.
      Then why shouldn't he extract for them, their amusement?

      I think "quaint" also has some variance in its connotation(s?) across different demographics. To wealthier people, this word is used in a condescending way; to the rest of us, it's evocative of something homey and charming. Maybe this has something to do with the different social classes' different experiences of what is old and familiar- I don't know- but to refer to any actual PEOPLE as "quaint"- not a village, a house, a farm, but a people- would be a mistake. People are complicated and life is difficult, whatever your station and whomever you are; life is not a quaint thing, and that is a fact which makes the occasional "quaint" touches- the simple things which make us smile- all the more necessary. 🕰⛄🗝🕯🛎🌛🎠

    I found your channel more recently. I'm originally from Pawling, which is the town over. Oniontown does have a bit of a problem with incest from what my mom's coworker had experience (she's a social worker); she got stuck with the sheriff on a case of domestic abuse due to the boyfriend was sleeping with his sister and his girlfriend got into a fist fight with the sister over it in Oniontown a few years back. Dover overall tends to be trailer parks and (not sure if yet opened after how many years) "college" that use to an asylum in the middle of the town. But I do feel bad for the Oniontown residents since quite a few try to hide where they're from since they deal with a lot of shit from others about it, especially the kids who go to school in Dover. Back in the early 2000s when I moved up to the area, there was areas where "outsiders" were looked down upon (a few still do that shit).

Even asking for an interview might be taken wrong at this point if done right off the bat. Call me cheesy, but I think sometimes gentle and honest kindness is the only option in some cases, this being one of them. The idea of an interview could possibly be introduced later on, but they've been teased and alienated so much by now that acting with alternate motivations in any way would likely be rejected, even if it's well meaning. They need to know their interview won't be edited to make it something it isn't.

    There are two sides to this coin.
    On one side: There's a small town with aggressive residents who will attack whoever enters the town or barely even near the town with run down trailers and a community full of incest and psychopaths
    On the other side: Oniontown is a small town with individuals who have been alienated and treated like attractions. They deserve the peace of living in their own little society, no matter how weird it may be because they're humans, not animals. When you treat someone like an animal, they're gonna get fed up and start acting like animals.
    Every action has a reaction, remember that.

    I’m from a place that’s very similar to Oniontown in a multitude of ways, except it’s in the depths of the California Mohave desert. Here’s an insider’s perspective.
    People who come out here for shits and giggles literally destroy the area. I’m not saying that metaphorically. Crowds from Coachella surge in all the time, along with tourists who expect us to be a bunch of lawless drug-crazed nuts. They steal so much from the one existing Walmart here that it’s not even funny, it’s really just disturbing. They treat us inhabitants like wacky roadside attractions, and that’s not even going into how they treat the physical environment. Joshua trees take hundreds of years to mature, but these crowds won’t stop destroying them. The hieroglyphs on the rocks are some of the oldest on earth, and these crowds *won’t stop destroying them.*
    Hundreds of people die or go missing while vacationing out here each year. They can’t get it through their thick skulls that the desert is a harsh mistress, and you will, in fact, die if you don’t bring enough water.
    We’re really not that hostile, we’re just sick of being treated like this. I personally don’t live here exactly, but just look up “Slab City” on CZcams and watch the titles all label it as a completely lawless anarchy that remains untouched by the outside world, and also looks like a background drawing from Yellow Submarine. There certainly are drug problems in these areas, there’s no denying that. But there are drug problems...literally everywhere. It’s not special just because it’s in an area that’s perceived as weird. Also, some of the people who flow in here during tourist season are definitely not helping the drug issue, seeing as they bring a bunch more in.
    If everyone stopped losing all empathy and critical thinking skills every time they vacationed here, things would be a lot nicer. I’m sure the people of Oniontown can relate. Just treat us like a normal city for once! Actual people live here. We go grocery shopping, have jobs, and eat food. We’re just...humans, please treat us like it.
    Side note: yes, Marty Robbins music is very popular out here, at least in my experience. Fallout is fun.

If you're a kid today with absolutely no money, your parents have absolutely nothing and you have nothing to do but kick rocks and throw mud balls outside. When people start to randomly drive through your neighborhood beeping and gawking at you. Those kids that have literally nothing to do get together and plan and gather. And this happens. As for the parents. No one choses to live like this. People often who are born into poverty stay in it, whether backwoods places like this or very poor cities.
