  • In this video, I finally try my hand at making over a bed frame! This transformation is incredible and I am so excited to share the process with you! This was the final piece in a bedroom set that I have been working on from clients in Illinois. I hope you learn a little more about wax and have the courage to try it out for yourself! Thanks for watching!

I love your channel. This is not a criticism...just a personal preference. I personally think this waxing makes the pieces looks dirty. I know that translates to antique and vintage to most ppl. I like it when there is depth and would prefer to see this done in specific areas and not all over the bed. I think it's that I do not like the brown wax and just prefer depth be added by paint blending. Again, just what I like. I know this was for the customer and it was for them so, it doesn't really matter. It was a job well done, regardless, and I enjoyed the video...as always.

That’s beautiful. I have a sleigh bed. I did resist painting it for a long time because “don’t paint the wood” and it was a nice walnut stain and not at all dated, so I left it be. Now it’s scuffed and scratched up from moving numerous times so I feel justified in painting it. That baby is fixing to go navy with some moldings, white wax, and transfers!

Lauren, I love your channel, but sometimes I think the original wood is sometimes so gorgeous It makes me cringe to think it would be altered so severely. I do understand you were expressly asked by your client to change it, but it is such a beautiful wood and sleigh bed that would last decades with the intrinsic beauty of the original wood. Wow... As a furniture restorer I'm shocked by the colour change. But if that's what the customer wanted. The Brown wax at 10:45 I was thinking I would be hating that. The bed in white looked great. On the flip side. In a few years time when it gets stripped down, they'll find some wonderful wood under that paint. So you're protecting the piece for another few years. Anyhow, found you because I've just finished repairing and restoring the period finish on a Sleigh bed.
    Have a Happy new year.

Love your stuff. Just had a quick question. How do you decide whether you spray paint with a spray gun or do it with a brush? Is it your sponsor that helps you decide and if you get a new spray gun from a sponsor then you use that on a product or is it a different way that you decide. I'm just trying to figure out when to spray paint and when to use a brush to paint and what I mean by spray is a spray gun and not spray paint.

You're doing yourself a disservice by quoting people a range and then charging the top of that range. You should be giving them a higher upper cap than what you'd actually charge (e.g., $800-$1200) so when you charge them $1000, they feel like they got a bargain/good value. That makes them feel better about you and they're more likely to give referrals.

Back in the 60's antiquing was a very popular technique. Many a true antique piece of furniture was subjected to the painted antiquing. In a few years much of those pieces were stripped and stained back to a more natural look. Funny how everything cycles around.
You did a lovely job... regardless of my dislike of painting nice wood.

Such a huge difference from before to after. Never thought about painting a bed, but I will now.

It kind of hurt me to watch you brush it and not spray. You did so good on it. Such a new look

Thanks! It just depends on my mood whether or not I spray or brush! I sprayed the dresser lol thanks for watching!

I was thinking the same thing on brushing vs spraying. It turned out very nice either way.

I was wondering that too but then I thought about how the brushing is more therapeutic in some ways (speaking for myself). So using the brush over the sprayer would allow for that:) Either way, it came out gorgeous.
