  • The WAFC has apparently made a huge call on the third licence in WA. Do we even need a third team? The boys also preview a massive Round 12 which is honestly a tipsters nightmare, so listen and tip the opposite of Schoey and Skeet if you want to move up you’re tipping this week.

Why shouldn't West Coast start favourite, 76 point loss to the Bulldogs then beat Richmond by 8 goals, lost to Collingwood by 66 points then beat Melbourne by 35 points 😂

  • @doraiish

I’m a west coast fan, if there is another team from wa , I will stop watching footy. 2 teams from WA is enough.

  • @Bevtone

Honestly, the only problem with the comp is not enough Victorian teams

  • @craigos8296

Just seen the ins and outs for West Coast can’t believe Jack Williams was left out. This boy has a lot of talent and will always guarantee one or two goals.😮

  • @peterjones3177

How about making Optus stadium bigger so non members can go and a third wa team would be a free kick to the Victorian clubs diluting wa talent corporate sponsors etc etc

  • @BDub2024

I think the government and WAFC is reviewing whether a third team is beneficial or not. There is no guarantee that there will be more money flowing through to the WAFL junior footy development. More teams isn't more dividend to WAFC initially, so they need to do their modelling. May impact the Stadium deals too. This requires careful analysis. Tassie team is 4 years away, so there won't be any serious contemplation or discussion until 2027 at least. Tassie may not happen. Two teams may merge to make it 18 teams again. If it doesn't stack up financially for the WAFC then it won't happen.

So you could have a team from Joondalup (West Perth). But in 10 years all the old traditional WAFL West Perth fans will be in their mid 70s. Their kids don't have a passion for West Perth. So you can't rely on West Perth for brand recognition and a guaranteed fan base. Pity because 20 years ago it would have been a guaranteed fan base. With the other WAFL clubs they've lost more of their identity apart from South Fremantle. But Joondalup is a good base even if they love their soccer and rugby there, at least they love their sport. Swan Valley is a great footy heartland but not convinced there is the hub with really footy fans and corporate support to make it work. I mean you couldn't even put a WAFL club into the Swan Valley or Midland and make it work. So do you call the club Perth and make it central? Does that win a fan base more. But what with Perth Demons, they don't have the fan base or success to be the original club. East Perth you could argue has the same issues as West Perth but probably lost more fans over 30 years. East Perth and West Perth can't merge and join AFL as they're rivals. Both had the biggest WAFL fan bases but not so much any more. So how do you make a third team from WA work? Big query over South West idea or Mandurah as I said in other post. If a club relocated from Victoria it would work, but then it wouldn't be a 20th team would it?

  • @BDub2024

I'm not sure if Hall is ready, but agree that he should be a tagger and possibly Ledwards or Chesser. Make those guys follow some of the star mids around and learn. If Sheed can't get it done on the wing or half forward then he shouldn't play. I reckon Gaff would be more useful currently.

  • @BDub2024

374k in the south west, but that includes Mandurah to Albany region. Really spread out, so a team in Bunbury just isn't enough and would struggle for 15,000 as people in Mandurah wouldn't consider it their team. Only south west option is South West Thunder which merges south west and Peel region. But realistically that would only attract fans in the areas Mandurah Bunbury and Busselton with boutique stadiums in Mandurah and probably Bunbury. Two grounds at $500k each. And still it would be rough. Mandurah would take from Freo Dockers. Bunbury/Busselton residents may not feel that a Peel based team is sufficiently south west. But if purely Busselton/Bunbury then there just won't be the fans or members to make it profitable. If Mandurah based then fans may travel from Bunbury (1 hour car trip), but that would limit it due to lack of public transport options. Mandurah then would attract people from south of the river metro, but that would hurt Freo. Certainly a South West Thunder team could play big Victorian teams like Collingwood Essendon and Carlton at Optus Stadium. But then they are splitting their matches between three venues! I'm not sure its profitable going for south west option.

  • @BDub2024

For me, Jermaine Jones is in the starting 18 as a half back along with Witherden Cole... Duggan can alternate midfield and half back too. Jones is just a bit bereft of confidence after some injuries. But two years ago he was really good at half back and more importantly allows guys like Hunt Duggan to play up the ground. Even allows someone like Cole to be thrown around to create physical pressure in mid or forward. The thing is that guys that tackle hard and commit create a great example. We seem to have all those guys in the last line of defence, but they keep seeing the ball go over their heads. In one sided matches they need to get where the action and show some of the mids how its done, how to lay a tackle and commit the body.

If the WA government is fair dinkum, they should be coming up with half a billion for a new stadium in the southwest.

Schoey, Clarko has been done for abusing under 9’s umpires. He loves it

  • @kris0508

If we get a AFL seconds comp would love to see the disconnect between AFL saying it’s Afl/vfl to just the AFL. Want to be a national competition gotta start trying it like one

  • @sleepylizard4781

A team in Darwin would be awesome. Would make the game truly nation wide and acknowledge the over represented amount of talent that comes from the top end. It would be a loss financially for the afl but overall would have positives economically for the state and incentivise more travel to the top end. Biggest issue though is the weather in Darwin would lead to more games being canceled for thunder etc.

  • @OldSheriff

They have allocated 715 million for the tassie stadium with both federal and state governments chipping in.

Schoey is great, but he appears to have no idea of what stadiums cost these days and the population base needed to support a club. AFL clubs cost more than NRL clubs to run and Townsville has a bigger population base than Bunbury-Geographe + Capes region combined.

  • @bkozican

If you pay incorrect disposal, It will make key position players staying in those positions. It will take a few weeks but coaches will eventually keep players back.

  • @Yo_Adriann

Fuck Im 25mins late today 🤣 sorry guys

  • @callumproud1358

A stadium in the southwest would be perfect with approximately 20-30k capacity. Make the team similar to a geelong type setup where they play half of their games in the south west and half at optus stadium. Victorian teams wouldn't have an issue as they could fly straight into busselton airpot. It is a fantastic idea, and a great way to grow footy in WA. The change in weather and locality would provide a competitive advantage. The south west footy league is one of the strongest comps in the country and has a great deal of passion. I know someone who played in 2 winning flags for Margaret River, and is treated like a celebrity whenever he goes out in public.
