Fun story involving Mara I played Persona 5 for the first time recently. Really loved it, would recommend, 10/10. But I actually forgot that Mara was even a THING in the Shin megami Tensei series, let alone persona. This is because it was actually my first Persona game, one of my buds filling me in on thing like Persona and Shin megami tensei. Anywho's I was playing through it, near the endgame, and I have my 11-year-old Brother next to me. I'm just telling him what's going on in the story and stuff, and he's really into it. Then I talk to the last Shadow before I could enter the depths of Mementos. And it's mara. We both screamed and I kicked him out of my room so we wouldn't get in trouble with my mom.

What pisses me off about this anime is the fact that they call Ose, one of the 72 demons of the Goetia, Satan. In the Megami Tensei universe (which this is set in, hence demons based on mythologies from around the world and the importance of Magnetite), Satan is a completely different and seperate demon from Ose. Satan is actually on the side of Law, in which God entrusts him with testing human being's morality, therefore being dubbed the Prince of Darkness. That being said, in Megami Tensei, Lucifer and Satan are different entities from one another. Lucifer resumes the role of the devil and Morning Star who fell from God's grace for wanting absolute freedom from his creator, thus representing Chaos. So if they were going to get Ose's identity wrong and name him after the supposed source of all evil, shouldn't they have named him Lucifer instead? That way, even if they're still wrong, it at least makes sense within the context of the franchise...

I dunno, I found most of the bullshit to make sense, but that's because I've played the SMT series. For instance, Magnetite is basically what demons use to form a physical form in the human world. Cerberus has always looked like a lion, except for the Persona 3 version of him. In the main SMT series, demons have always been summoned from a computer program that was created by a dude who totally isn't Stephen Hawking, no really. Him being bound to the main character's dog is a reference to the main character in SMT 1 fusing his pet dog to a demon, to get Cerebus (yes, he did that. The game's pretty fucked up). That said, a bunch of stuff like the ninjas and lesbians are new to me.
I'm just surprised that Sage didn't nickname Steve Blum's character "Daryl Hall." Why that nickname? Because of the following 3 parallels: 1. Handsome appearance 2. Golden voice 3. History of taking part in (in Hall's case, harmless) occultism

So the gigantic leopardman is Ose from Ars Goetia. I assume that Birdface is supposed to be Gagyson who was a minor angel in the Abrahamic religions. So basically Satan is not in Tokyo Revelation

About time someone gave this justice! This was one of the first things I looked up to get into the Megami Tensei series, but this plot went all over the place and made little to no sense that I stopped caring.
As a HUGE SMT nerd, I can attest that knowing about the lore surrounding the series will not help you make sense of this garbage fire. Its only tangible connection to the games is the Windows 98 title Giten Megami Tensei and if you never heard of it, it's because it's one of the least remarkable entry in the series.
Oddly enough, I stumbled upon this anime on CZcams while I was binge watching SMT1. Out of curiosity, I checked it out, figuring 'a full SMT anime?! Fuck yeah!' As I watched, I was expecting music from the games to pop up, only to be disappointed the whole way. In short, I saw an entire anime on CZcams expecting everything from the games to be in the anime, only to be disappointed. And before you ask, yes, I saw the whole thing... Even the ending...
It's really weird how Ose is a villain in the movie...and yet he is also a possible companion summon in Persona...it's like, yeah sure, we can team up with the ultimate evil... XD
I played the english hack of the SMT for the SNES. I recognized some characters from it, but the writing was way way more solid than this piece of sh't .

Wow and I thought that the Mega Ten series was nutty before. Don't get me wrong, love the series to death. Hell Persona 4 golden is the reason I bought a Vita, but still, how could I have forgotten most of the loony tunes antics that go on here? Admittedly I only saw this once, on CZcams, with the subs because they were the only ones I could find. Also Handsome God looks like Dio Brando auditioning for Sergent Kabuki Man. Sure this might have been a nutty pile of poo, but still to everyone watching this, play the games, especially if you have a PS3, most of the really good games from the PS2 era are on PSN for lower then $10.
Acctually i think Magnetite was mentioned in SMT as a rock that could summon demons. Though i don"t really see any purple rocks here. Also as a added bonus one of the first demons you summon is cerberus and you use a computer to summon it.

In SMT, Magnetite is to demons what fuel is to a car. It makes up their bodies like cells make up ours. Without it, they start to decay when on the terrestrial plane (gradual HP loss with each step). I think it manifests as some kind of green or clear liquid.
You know, just adding on top of his pointing out voices from other anime and that one guy looking like Yusuke from YuYu Hakusho, pause it at 11:34. Is it just me, or do those two ladies look like Michiru and Haruka from Sailor Moon? Honestly I think they just pulled a lot of people out of the Toonami anime line up back when it was a day time show and had all those shows in it's line up at one point or another. XD Not to mention I think Needy is voiced by the same guy who did Ken's voice from Digimon Season 2 dub. Seriously, how did they get ALL these people to voice for something so stupid? if I remember correctly, the biggest reason is because if there are subtitles popping up while he talks, the audience's attention is diverted. another reason is because the localized script will have more stupidity that he can riff, or the voice cast will be easier to scrutinize for poor delivery or silly accents, which the original Japanese wouldn't have. also, Sage isn't Japanese. I remember there IS a video explaining why he chooses dubs to review, but I can't remember if it was an episode of Anime Abandon or a convention video.

Aside from that, the OVA protagonist looks like a cross between the SMT protagonist and the Majin Tensei 2 protagonist.

Oddly enough, I stumbled upon this anime on CZcams while I was binge watching SMT1. Out of curiosity, I checked it out, figuring 'a full SMT anime?! Fuck yeah!' As I watched, I was expecting music from the games to pop up, only to be disappointed the whole way. In short, I saw an entire anime on CZcams expecting everything from the games to be in the anime, only to be disappointed. And before you ask, yes, I saw the whole thing... Even the ending...
Probably the funniest ending I've seen to an anime in my entire life.

Wow and I thought that the Mega Ten series was nutty before. Don't get me wrong, love the series to death. Hell Persona 4 golden is the reason I bought a Vita, but still, how could I have forgotten most of the loony tunes antics that go on here? Admittedly I only saw this once, on CZcams, with the subs because they were the only ones I could find. Also Handsome God looks like Dio Brando auditioning for Sergent Kabuki Man. Sure this might have been a nutty pile of poo, but still to everyone watching this, play the games, especially if you have a PS3, most of the really good games from the PS2 era are on PSN for lower then $10.

Acctually i think Magnetite was mentioned in SMT as a rock that could summon demons.
Though i don"t really see any purple rocks here.
Also as a added bonus one of the first demons you summon is cerberus and you use a computer to summon it.

In SMT, Magnetite is to demons what fuel is to a car. It makes up their bodies like cells make up ours. Without it, they start to decay when on the terrestrial plane (gradual HP loss with each step). I think it manifests as some kind of green or clear liquid.

You think that's weird? In SMT1, you can fuse a demon with your dog to become Cerberus...and it's the best partner you'll get for half of the game.

You know, just adding on top of his pointing out voices from other anime and that one guy looking like Yusuke from YuYu Hakusho, pause it at 11:34. Is it just me, or do those two ladies look like Michiru and Haruka from Sailor Moon? Honestly I think they just pulled a lot of people out of the Toonami anime line up back when it was a day time show and had all those shows in it's line up at one point or another. XD
Not to mention I think Needy is voiced by the same guy who did Ken's voice from Digimon Season 2 dub. Seriously, how did they get ALL these people to voice for something so stupid? They could of used this sort of star power for a great anime series with a decent amount of episodes. XD

if I remember correctly, the biggest reason is because if there are subtitles popping up while he talks, the audience's attention is diverted. another reason is because the localized script will have more stupidity that he can riff, or the voice cast will be easier to scrutinize for poor delivery or silly accents, which the original Japanese wouldn't have. also, Sage isn't Japanese.
I remember there IS a video explaining why he chooses dubs to review, but I can't remember if it was an episode of Anime Abandon or a convention video.
