    All the people that say Thanos was a waste in Endgame don’t understand his character in my opinion. A younger Thanos sees a future where he was victorious and yet he sees Avengers fighting to undo his work. He realises the flaw in his previous plan that people will not be grateful even though he sees the good it will do in the universe. He undergoes a fundamental change wherein his ego trumps the outcome he wants, Loki told 2018 Thanos he will never be a god, Loki could see it within him but in Infinity War he chose to see his mission as a saviour of the universe, in Endgame’s final act he goes full tilt into his god complex

      I agree from both a creative standpoint, and on the side of being within the story.. Infinity war was Thanos film and saw where he actually made sense and thought he would be looked at as a savior, or at least gave valid reasons. And (for me) the endgame Thanos was wise (like someone just said in response here... He was a mixed of both versions of the big picture Titan however watching the avengers attempting to undo what his past version has done then realize he had to physically wipe out/regret dusting the wrong half. However knowing that he attempted to kill the original six and then dust the half because they were collectively strong enough, wise enough, and foolish enough to attempt it

      It's really not that complicated, he has always been that way even in the original timeline where he succeeded. Lind of like how haters are jealous but because they can accept and admit that's how they actually felt, the rationalization kicks in and even they believe in that rationalization.
      In thanos' case it's probably the fact that hes being labelled as mad titan, so his insecurity is that that is true. He actually is just a mad titan, but he wants to do what he wants without admitting and accepting that he actually is just a mad titan, so he rationalize it and says it's to create a better world.
      When he learn the avengers tried to undo what he accomplished, it finally made it obvious what he really wanted.

    Seeing a character that I had always known as a love-sick puppy for the metaphysical embodiment of death (which is still equally interesting), to a well rounded, intimidating presence misguided by his own sense of accountability towards aiding a problem that has been addressed multiple times, all culminated into a nuanced character, that we begin to become narratively infatuated with every moment, that is an example of how to execute a villain well in media. Giving them nuance.

    To be fair to Darkseid, he is not supposed to be sympathetic. Thanos, even the one dimensional comic villain, always had a reason for being evil, doing it for love and stuff. Darkseid doesn't have a reason. He was created to be evil incarnate, he's literally modeled after Space Hitler. If he's supposed to be the embodiment of evil, giving him a reason for being like that would kind of take away from the whole concept.
    It's kind of like giving Cthulhu a tragic backstory, making him understandable causes the loss of the unexplainable evil and horror you can't hope to understand.

      thats not true stop spreading false infromation lol. all you do is think about darkseid conquering and taking over worlds and taking free will yet there is an actual purpose behind his deed removing free will is true salavtion and the equation of entire existence. he sees the anti life as a proof of this and to show everyone how meaningless free will and life is. the way kirby writes the character is in a philosophical way and it is even much more to it.

    • @mcknightmareb4u494

      @@Maelkor Darkseid IS pure evil, that's why him and Apokolips is modeled after Hitler and Nazi Germany, that's what pure evil looked like to a Jewish American in the period after the war. Saying that it's about liberation from the self and salvation is just Bullshit Darkseid made up to explain why he deserves to be ruler of everything, the same way Hitler made up stuff like the Germans are the best and everyone that didn't look like them are subhuman. Darkseid tries to conquer stuff with, or without the Anti-Life Equation, as demonstrated by all the times that Darkseid just comes to wreck shit up like in Justice League: War. He fought New Genesis before he learned about the Anti-Life Equation, not because he wanted to "liberate them", but because he's an imperialist dictator.
      And then we come to Final Crisis. In its heart, it's a story about stories. The hero of Final Crisis, the one that ends the conflict and defeats the bad guy is Superman, the embodiment of all that's good and just. The Bad Guy is Darkseid (and also Mandraak but he is more so a commentrary on the state of the comic book industry at the time). And with all the higher dimensions and abstructums this book uses, its safe to assume the Final Villain, the one that's behind it all, is the opposite of the First Hero, absolute Evil to match his Absolut Good. And it is all showcased when Superman defeats Darkseid, not by punching him, but by wishing for a happy ending, when the evil is defeated and everything ends happily ever after.
      Defend Darkseid and you're defending Hitler. The few stupid reasons he has for being evil is by adopting the characteristics of the closest thing we have to Absolute Evil in the real world, which Kirby didn't think anyone would sympathise with.

    I always liked how in comics and some animations, Thanos would be drawn with completely Black eyes. It made him look like a shark. A creature that never stops moving and doesn't do anything but seek bloodshed. I understand there is maybe some amount of emotion we wouldn't have gotten if Thanos had black eyes, but I would have enjoyed some compromise on that matter. Maybe giving him no irises in the pupil and just having pure black pupils or something. Not a huge complaint with the film overall, just something from the source material I always enjoyed.

Just watch finding Nemo as example of this being considered common knowledge. Even if sharks are more social than we assume, they are still very alien and scary in the way they move and look. There is a reason they are the #1 most known sea predator. Taking characteristics of that type of animal, an infamous animal that is really most famous for eating people. You don't hear many stories about sharks saving people. That's why it was effective in applying them to Thanos. Who, like shark, could be a more complex character that to everyone else is just seeking bloodshed.

      However, they went overboard with making us simpathise with thanos and that was bad for two reasons:
      - it ended up looking like in-universe it made sense to resort to genocide as a solution to overpopulation (which drove me mad)
      - and it made thanos in end-game showing his true colors be super weird and almost broke the character
      I honestly think infinity war could have used a scene where they call out thanos for what he really is, the scene with gamora in his ship would have been perfect. her adoptive daugther knows him better than anyone else, she could have easily yelled out at thanos for the flaws in his supposed benevolence and made for both a very intense scene as well as avoiding the aformentioned issues.

    I.....really disagree with this. I hate Thanos as a character. He has the ability to do literally anything, and he considers himself to be a savior, but he uses his powers to destroy instead of using them for actual benefit. Despite the fact that he’s “cursed with knowledge,” he never realizes that he has the power to do literally anything and therefore can end overpopulation in ways that don’t end in pain and suffering. And I don’t like “insanity” excuse because I feel like it just waves away bad writing decisions. Like, if Thanos can alter reality, then why doesn’t he take away the Avengers’ equipment and powers? The conflict in these movies only exists simply because the writers demand it.

      I always took it as: he just wanted to kill billions of people and wanted to find a way to make it seem like he was a good guy because he's manipulative and evil. If he actually wanted to end overconsumption, he'd easily figure out the ways to do it.

    • @thesuperframe
      @thesuperframe  Před 3 lety +11

      I literally address this point in the video ? did you even watch it? his ego/narcissism trumps his motivation, he's revealed to be self absorbed in the end, which is what makes him villainous, he doesn't really care about his cause, if he had used the stones for what he intended and fixed the universe instead of destroying half then he'd be a good guy, but he's not the good guy. It's okay to hate his logic but love the character, the reason he doesn't make ideological sense is the reason he's a villain, his plan falls apart under a microscope.

    • @rohithdhar7755
      @rohithdhar7755 Před 3 lety +5

      I think Super Frame’s point is that his motivation is hindered by his ego. He regards himself as a paternalistic god towards the universe and thus he thinks he knows best. Even though he should ideally create more resources, he thinks of himself in the terms of an Old Testament god who thinks that the universe should be punished for its sins/transgressions before being nurtured and loved as say in the New Testament. Remember, he is still holding onto the experience of Titan falling not just for his people dying, but rather he told them a solution and his people ignored him to then die off anyway. He think his solution on Titan could have put things “right.” As such, he doesn’t take into account other people’s perspectives because he doesn’t consider them equals in a sense. He uses “children” as a term to describe all living beings and he is the father figure who is trying to “help” his children. In Endgame, his actions through the 2014 Thanos coming into the future and being sadistic, reflects an abusive father figure who is lashing out at his children for them being “ungrateful” for all that he’s done. Whether he should have thought smarter or humanely is not the point. Thanos in his twisted logic is sincere in his beliefs and is willing to go the distance to make it possible. He’s an ideological extremist with an inflated sense of grandeur that lashes out if other people don’t appreciate for what he’s done regardless of what he actually did. Unfortunately, there are real world dictators and authoritarians that have a similar mindset and cause real-world violence. That in my view is what makes Thanos compelling in both Infinity War and Endgame because he’s so real in his psychology.

      Thanos like many Marvel villains always chokes when it comes to "Phenomenal Cosmic Power". They are certainly powerful enough to obtain the McGuffins of power, and can even outsmart the heroes, but they always succumb to hubris.
      Here in the MCU Thaons sees himself as "merciful, and compassionate". He believes that he is doing what needs to be done. Could he have used the McGuffins of power to save the universe in a different way. Perhaps. Remarkcably we still don't know all that much about the guy (hopefully the Eteranals movie gives us some context)
      However we do know that Thanos's own planet suffered and eventually passed on. MCU Thanos seems to be suffering from some version of survivors guilt. When one has survivor's guilt one can feel responsible for a tragedy even if there was nothing they could do.
      He also mirror's Tony Stark's journey. Tony went from not caring about the world to caring too much. He wanted to seure "Pease in his time". He wanted their to be a final victory, but this was his hubris, it leads him to create Ultron and made him make many mistakes.
      Thanos and Tony both want to "save" the universe but Thanos is truely lost. Tony has friends to rely upon, Thanos has "followers and worshipers". I think if Thanos had someone to help him process his tramua he might not have went insane.
      But of course that's the terror of Thanos. The fear of one individual getting unlimited power and undeserving of it.

It's like having an arrow pointing at an image of itself. If you're going to put text on your thumbnail how about something that actually has context within the video or at least just not literally what everyone else is doing... and dont even start with "what they did" thumbnails
