I made a rocking horse similar to this 25 years ago when she was 2. I made it in a slightly different way as I left the body solid. The saddle I made out of an old brown leather suitcase. Nicely done sir. 👍👍
I love this video and the craftsmanship and music! I am so impressed with the level of finishing! The horses from that specific template do look anorexic and a little disturbing though. I probably wouldn’t notice if I wasn’t around horses though.
I used simple PVA adhesive. I added a little water to help break the surface tension and ensure the glue soaked into the wood. It also lengthened the working time of the adhesive. I used as much even clamping force as I could. Getting the "toes" of each hoof on a perfect plane was also critical (not shown in the video) to make attachment to the swing bars perfect. Regards Alan.
@alan tennant a beautiful video, and great craftsmanship I wondered whether it was the small or medium plan you managed to get out of the one sheet of ply please? Also, assume the ply didn't come from a big box diy retailer in the UK? Final question I promise, did the rocking horse plans contain the plans for the saddle? Or is that a separate kit? I can't see it on their website is all 🙄 Thank you in advance
Thank you for your comment. We do not give plans for our saddles as we pride ourselves on these items being only made by us. The saddle can be purchased alongside other accessories in our accessory kit section of our website. This is also the medium. We do not make the small in this style horse.
Alan, I've just finished a small Rocky and I'm keen to make my own saddle and reigns etc. Interested to know where you got the template for cutting the leather for the saddle?
We have made several rocking horses. The first two were for my grandchildren. (A link is in one of the replies) I bought the saddle and rein sets from the same place I bought the plans. I made templates from those. (I let someone borrow them and have not seen them since!)
The horse is made from our plans. All plans and accompanying timber and accessories can be purchased directly from our website. www.rockinghorse.co.uk/shop/categories/Rocking-Horse-Carving-Plans/
@@JaneCook you are most welcome. We've made seven in total, two for grandchildren, the rest for charities. Grandchildren have grown so we're going to make the larger one. Thank you. Alan T.
Better distribution of glue, and lets excess ouse out. These dowels were made with a dowel cutter and did not have any flutes along their length (as in shop-bought ones) so I cut a groove in them.

BEAUTIFUL!
absolutly marvelous!!!
Amazing job
Excellent work.
I had a bouncy rocking horse as a toddler, I was told I would ride that thing all day long until I got too big for it

Fantastic 🤗..💯 thanks
Magnificent
Looks really good. What glue did you use please?

Very nice but I find the heads a bit short...I feel they need to be larger in proportion to the body
Крутяк 😍
Great job,how many sheets of ply did you use in the project
One 8ft x 4ft x 3/4inch sheet of baltic plywood per horse
Made a rocking horse similar to that but smaller. I used a design from a book I got from woodcrafters. It used solid lumber lots more carving.

Brilliant. What sort of wood(?) is being used.
@@alanhill4334 18mm birchwood ply....make sure you use the proper ply ;0)
I used a 4ft x 8ft sheet of 18mm Baltic Birch plywood for each rocking horse. The frames are made of ash.
