Geely (one of China's biggest car companies) and Baidu (one of it's biggest tech companies) have come together to create an SUV. It's called the Jiyue Robocar 01, and it promises Tesla-like FSD Beta functions and other smart features.

I actually liked the chilled style of the reviewer
There is a line between "chilled" style vs Lackluster. He definitely crossed that line. The second half improved slightly and probably leans closer toward the "chilled" style. But overall not good enough, especially the first half. His opinion and critique is fine and fair game, just the energy involved is in question.
I wish he spoke with more clarity so I could understand him better (I'm Spanish)

Thanks for the kind words. I put a lot of effort into reviewing. Honestly, this review went on for longer than I expected! I could talk for hours about Chinese EVs, the market and the trends. Research is absolutely key in delivering a review that is well rounded, true and informative. Being negative is never the goal, if I ever express something even marginally negative you can be assured time and thought went into how that negativity is expressed and that it is well researched. I stand by what I say, but always open to be proven wrong.
this EV's biggest problem is that Baidu is irrelevant in China's tech scene. it's essentially Yahoo at this point. that's why the Xiaomi SU7 is getting huge hype and excitement, while this "Robocar 01" is largely unknown/forgotten.
It's true Baidu is kind of the the old guard in terms of tech. But for robotaxis they are up there. And for mapping they are a leader.

I found it very telling the same year Apple apparently decided to give up on its car, Xiaomi released theirs. What else is Apple working on? They are now pivoting to AI because it’s in vogue, but they don’t have anything else going on.
I absolutely LOVE those spinny things on steering wheels! I know they compromise safety, but they're just so cool and so convenient!

ONLY buy BEVs that have an LFP or a Sodium-Ion battery v2 (as CATL is releasing it).
And: you might wait because CATL as well as BYD announced that they will halve the prices of their batteries between July and August 2024 (don't take this vagueness of time as BYDs abd CATLs fault...vecause it is me just not remembering too precise + being too lazy to switch tabs and too look it up (but not too lazy to type all of this text)).

@@TheChinaEVShow I think we've seen that generally ADAS, although super cool and interesting, isn't translating into being something that drives sales. Look at Xpeng who have staked a large amount of their reputation on their ADAS system. Personally I think it's difficult to communicate to a customer on a short test drive that your ADAS is superior to another companies. ADAS ability requires more education of the consumer, that takes a lot of time and money.
@@ChinaDriven in addition to customer habits, regulations etc are still lagging. If you crash in autonomous mode it’s your responsibility. Most people don’t want the hassle. Plus the combination of human and auto drivers on the road is not a good mix. When you let the car drive it ends up being very frustrating and uncomfortable

I wish WheelsBoy did a video on what its like to own/drive an EV in china and what the EV infrastructure is like and how usable is it compared to other countries. I see all these pushes for EV cars coming out from china all the time but i have strong doubt that theres as much adoption for them there given the economy and classes of society.
NEVs (BEVs + Hybrids) made up 50% of new vehicles last month in China. Adoption rate of NEVs in China is massive. Charging infrastructure for the most part is very robust compared to when I drove an EV back in the UK for a few days.
Example the charger maps in the UK classes 50kW+ as fast chargers. Haha. In China the slowest “fast chargers” are 120kW and those are consider dog slow. Plenty of 150kW, many 350kW chargers and now we’re seeing 500kW+ chargers rolling out.

So many Chinese cars. So little time. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out over the next decade. I suspect it will turn out similar to Chinese real estate - massive state support + massive competition and greed = a total mismatch of the supply and the market demand. Ghost cities. Bankrupt real estate conglomerates. I can't help but wonder when the Chinese government will run out of money from financing all these industries. But then, I suppose the Chinese are only spending $231 billion on defense now, while the US is spending $842 billion this year. That's $162 for each Chinese citizen and $2,489 for each American respectively.
That will be resolved through export, giving other countries the opportunity to enjoy these EVs too.
So many questions. Would love to go to China and hire some of these cars and tour some of China's beauty but I've read it is pretty much impossible for foreigners to drive there.

That and the screen. Oh and the stretching to touch screen and cup holders. Plus 15W slippery phone charger and weird boot shape. Other than that it was nice.

No, it won't work, not even with a coarse voice of the same person/master. Voice recognition is like a key, used even in bank passcodes.
As far as I can tell, yes you can absolutely do that. There was no voice command set up, i just yelled at the car and it responded. I'm thinking that would be a very funny thing to do if i ever see someone near their Jiyue hahaha

The problem is there are 123 chinese car brands, and so uv got stiff competition so stiff that even cool interesting manufacturers like hiphi are facing profibility problems, so it ain't easy to compete.

This car literally looks like all other Chinese vehicles….not sure why the reviewer is hating on it looks. It looks beter than de Xpeng en BYD cars
I think my problem with the design is that Jiyue advertises itself in the market as this futuristic, advanced Smart EV company, and the styling just doesn't speak to that. As I said in the review, I don't think there is a bad angle, it just doesn't have that wow factor, for me at least.
I like the aero of Chinese cars. Quite a contrast to the transformer like angular shapes of Toyotas.

It's me, or this is the ONLY EV that has NO AC Charging outlet in the vehicle ?? I mean, you only can charge it on DC ??
It's not the only one. But it's far from common. My NIO ET7 has only a DC port. In fact all Chinese NIO NT2 are DC only. They added an A/C outlet for the ones sold in Europe though. NIO sell a 11kW home charger with a DC connection.

Oversaturation of numerous, generic Chinese carmakers of AI-alike looks is insane. Even Chinese buyers claims this, Chinese EV market has ADHD, nobody remembers 75% of those brands shortly they launch because it's too much
The market will need to consolidate, no bail outs allowed.

I drove the car as well, and I agree with everything that Will said in his review. We don't make advertisements for brands, we make objective reviews. Our export business will only succeed in the long term if we continue to be honest about the cars we review, because lying will only create extremely angry people who paid money for a car that doesn't do what we said it does.
A review shouldn't be a sales pitch, which too many often are. If you want to get to know a car, you don't only want to hear the good sides of it.

I've been torn about writing this comment, but I've choosen to be honest with you, since I've been enjoying this channel for so long, and it deserves my honest opinion - no punches hold back. I don't like the style of this reviewer at all:
1. his strong accent make it quite difficult for people not used to British accent to understand what he's saying - this is even more important for non native english speakers, who will struggle compared to Ethan, which instead is quite easy to understand.
2. he's speaking too slow, and with a lack of energy.
3. the review itself is boring. That never happened to me before in a review of this channel.
4. please don't assume that all people watching this channel uses imperial measures - we are not. In fact, it is probably the opposite, since the US is the only country on the entire planet that it does (4% of the world population). Please use the standard metric system, eventually using also other local (old and obsolete) unit of measurement if you want to help people not used to it (ex. "I'm 1,75m (or 5 feet 9 inches) tall"). Thank you.
So, not meaning to be rude, but I'll probably skip the next reviews with this reviewer...unless is really a car I'm looking for.

1 & 2 - Some have said they struggle with the British accent, so I tried to slow down a bit. Apparently that didn't solve the issue.
2 & 3 - Sorry you found the review boring. Perhaps you felt that way due to your perceived "lack of energy" on the delivery.
4 - I did unfortunately use feet and inches for my height, an oversight by me, however every other stat was given in metic.
I do hope you return to watch my reviews in the future, it would be a shame to lose you as a viewer.
Side note, i'm not happy with the audio quality, It's something we are working on. My voice is not the same as Ethans, and my audio is a little muddied and unclear. Hope we can work toward improving it as we go forwards
