Khaenri'ah's Etymology and the resurrection of Teyvat's Prehistoric Unified Civilization

  • In this video, I do my best to break down some of the important Khaenri'ah related usages of old Norse language, and even a little middle persian. I'm rusty, college was a long time ago for me so please excuse any sloppy pronounciations here or there.
I also divulge my personal belief as to what type of Nation Khaenri'ah was, and my theory as to why it was so huge and wide-spread: why Dainsleif called it the pride of humankind.

I worked on this video after about 6 hours of recording for other things I needed to work on, so my voice is a biiiit shredded by the end and I apologize for that. I started working on this video before we jumped into our video about the Paradise Lost artifact set, so I really wanted to get it out before I entirely lost my trains of thought! Hope you enjoy it, and onto the next!

Being Swedish I allways thought the "vindagnyr" in Peak Vindagnyr stood for "vindarna gnyr", kinda " Peak Of Howling Winds". I mean, Mondstadt has an ice wolf and an old name for a harsh winter whas "vargavinter" or "Wolf Winter".

A reddit user mentioned by minsleif found that khaenri'ah script is actually primordial script. But it's cut in half and... UPSIDE DOWN.

The reason Khaenri'ah is my most anticipated region is because of all the Old Norse connections so I'm really happy you made this video. It was a great watch, thank you! (:

I may be crazy but this video made me think that Diluc and Jean family name look more like old norse than german. Can that mean that some family in Khaenri'ha migrated to Mondstat long time ago. It would also be so cool because it would mean that there is a lot more ties between Mondstat and Khaenri'ha

"Ukko" is definetly and uniquely finnish by the way. Ukko is the head god of the pre-christian finnish pagan pantheon whose domains is most clearly thunder ( the finnish word for thuder is ukkonen). I haven't myself encountered more finnish words in the game, which is also kinda interesting.

The ocean besides mondstadt wasn't always ocean. :| It was a vast land! ;) I got the info somehow. Don't ask me about the source. :| Don't mention me!

I read/heard somewhere that Mondstadt is based on the Holy Roman Empire and that makes the hodgepodge of European influences make sense

Gonna be super blunt with you, that disclaimer at beginning is 100% not needed and will detract viewers. Why? Because 99% of people who hear Norse mythology will think "Oh cool, Vikings!" And then you have people like me who'll think "Oh cool, a comparison between Genshin lore and the Poetic/Prose Edda." Your reasoning for bring racism into the conversation at all is baffling and will actively draw those with racist intentions out in the comments.

We in Russia have our own headcanon of Khaenriakh being something like the USSR - the universal culture spanning several countries, which then broke up because of gods disliking their atheism. Their scientifical prowess and opposition to other cultures are very much suggesting this comparison. And now Fatui ("Russia" of Genshin) are using drafts and technologies of Khaenriakh for the same purposes, just like real Russia came to be a legal successor of USSR.

Well done analysis! Might I suggest taking a look at Varka's letter. Within there remain descriptions of the expeditions location in the farthest northern regions of Tehvat. Compile that information with Scaramouche's conversation with Signora about fighting the Abyss and Tartaglia's fall into a crevice that brought him to the Abyss and I think the premise of the expedition starts to become clear. My hypothesis is that perhaps there might be some glacier with crevices cracked open revealing deep caves that lead to the very Abyss. If your Analysis of the language of Khanriah is another indication I surmise that this is where we will discover this lost civilization.

Enkanomiya, Tsurumi, and Sal Vindagnyr are the only places with the murals so far. With Tsurumi and Sal Vindagnyr being more closely matched with each other.

Much respect for digging so deep and finding these terms and connections. And also to Genshin's devs for going so far in the development of the game in the first place! The more we look, the more we see, and I for one cannot get enough. Here's to the coming years together in Teyvat :D

i haven't even started this video yet i just want you to know that as a language nerd i'm so fucking happy someone is talking about this!!!!!! when inazuma came out i had so much fun using my japanese knowledge to pick things apart a little (that was also the year i watched princess mononoke subbed for a paper and lost my ENTIRE shit while researching tatarigami), and khaenri'ah is my ultimate lore obsession.
