  • A slightly meandering exploration of some theories I have surrounding visions, the Archons Gnoses and where they come from. This deep dive is a bit heavy handed on the dusty ancient texts, but I hope they help give you some new insight and ideas on Genshin lore!

This video was 100% just an elaborate excuse to read a few Dainsleif Lines.
I KID. But! I honestly feel like I limit my own "having fun throwing random theories at the wall" by being waaay too worried about being perfectly accurate when there's no way a theory CAN be y'know? I want to have as much fun as all of the other theory crafters :(
So this is definitely not a normal video for me, but I still had tons of fun making it! I'll be back to my usual nit-picky self for the next one I'm sure LOL.
Also if I sound sick-ish no I don't (my seasonal allergies are just weird u_u)
Thanks for sitting through my weird Gnostic journey!

I like the idea that the "Sustainer of Heavenly Principles" is more like a program than a person. I've suggested that when the Travelers encountered her it was due to Irminsul not recognizing them, maybe because their data was lost/corrupt, and perceived them as a potential threat, like malware perhaps, and the Sustainer was sent in to 'Run a Scan' like Anti-Virus Software.

When I was first getting into the lore- I made a random guess that the Vision Holders were just reincarnations of the people from the Unified Civilization, the first nation on Teyvat
It came from how they act around the Travelers. Like it's instant recognization, even though that should be impossible. Because at this point it's pretty obvious that The Travelers are from that original Civilization

i haven't watched the whole video yet but i personally think other than needing an ambition, visions manifest whenever you do something you weren't supposed to as predicted by fate. for example, Thoma wasn't meant to agree to stay in Inazuma, Layla wasn't meant to argue with her teacher and scara wasn't supposed to have that whole realization thing and blocking the beam that almost hit the traveler. the fact their will was strong enough to alter fate a little is what gives them a vision i think.

This is a really cool idea, also could be tied to loom of fate, but there are people like sucrose, whos vision are just got by doing a thing, not really doing something other. Sucrose got hers, she found hers in one of her experimets. But it is weird, was she not meant to do that one specific experiment? Or maybe not at all? Really like the reincarnation theory! My thought was that Visions are the preserved “ideals” of every god who died in the Archon War. We see that when those gods died, their curses and negativity lingered on Teyvat. Now their ambitions also linger and seek out new vessels to carry them out on Teyvat. I also think the little summons some characters summon are a reflection of this. From Xiangling being able awaken and call upon Guoba who is confirmed to be a faded god to Fischl calling upon Oz who resembles the thunderbird killed by Ei.

You sound fine in the video. Btw, OMG this video blew my mind, because no one else is talking about it, whether due to spoilers or still digesting? But is no one going to talk about when Scaramouche achieved his moment of clarity he basically connected and became a "triple-male" or i guess past, present and future of himself!? I had no idea about that until this video. Outstanding. I think this is what's required to receive a vision. A moment of intense focus of understanding who your are and what your motivation is. I believe the other part is not decided by the divine but due to bloodlines. This is what I believe Ei was mentioning as the other thing, imo.
Have you ever wondered why the supposed "humans" in Teyvat all have constellations of animals, elements or objects? And the Archons, Traveler and Scaramouche all have humanoid figures in their constellations? Another part to becoming divine is becoming tri-human(reaching a level of enlightenment with oneself), by accepting past, present and future self, but also carrying the bloodline or essence of the divine. Of course its not enough to just having the bloodline. It has to be "awakened". I think the stronger the enlightenment the closer you are to ascending and maybe even changing your constellation to one has a humanoid figure because those are beings that have awakened much of the bloodline, raising their divinity level.
Which leads me to believe that the current denizens of Teyvat are descendants of the original inhabitants, humans brought by Phanes, elementals, Adeptus, Youkai ect. Of course the overarching Divine is the story about the Primordial and Shades, but the under arching story is about the compromises and conflicts all these different beings on Teyvat have had to undergo while intermingling.
Edit: This would also account for why denizens of Teyvat are not worthy. For, perhaps that's all the current divine see regular mortals, as only half breeds and unworthy. Arrogance especially when lacking compassion generally leads to society where the "fortunate" look down upon the "not fortunate".

Another great video from you guys! Just a small correction: I don't think Ei and Makoto are any kind of wood youkai. The wooden thing in the aranara fairytale must be refering to Ei's puppet, since Nahida also described Scara as being carved from "white wood" (wink wink) :) I think the twins must either be some kind of sword spirit or maybe the personification of lightning.

Visions are a curious thing. Some people get them while others don’t. Some people went mad when they lost them during the vision hunt degree. I just wonder what it’s all about, what exactly made that happen? Like Itto didn’t go mad? And while visions can’t be destroyed you can get rid of them if you don’t want them. Like Fishing Jiangxue, he was reportedly super strong but has discarded his vision to repent for “bad things” he did with it. Strong enough still to take down the ruin hunter within seconds and says he still feels elemental energy. Fishing Jiangxue is always on my mind for some reason. I wish we could get more lore for him.
It’s easy to say Itto and Jiangxue didn’t go mad because they willingly discarded them. Itto gave his up after losing a fight to Sara. And there’s Diluc who discarded his own vision for awhile.

I liked your explanation for visions.
If the will of the archons, although not the archons themselves, influence the vision selection, then the archon’s ideals (freedom, contracts, eternity, etc) would also affect.
Generally it’s easier to see this from wielders from outside the country, since those in the country already have those ideals embedded into their culture.
Anemo, for example, they break from the chains of fate, thus freedom. Wanderer broke from his past, Kazuha from his legacy, Xiao is basically the poster boy for this.
Geo, as you said loyalty, it’s basically keeping a contract.
Electro, this one is tricky, mostly because the meaning of Eternity changed. Amy wished to preserve her childhood innocence and imagination, Cyno (goes better with Justice but I think they pushed him hard for Electro lol) wishes to preserve Sumeru.
For Dendro I have nothing to add.
Hydro is protection, you explained it very well.

Venti losing his friend, Zhongli having a duty to his people, Ei locking herself in the Plane of Euthymia, Nahida being the literal god of wisdom and giving her gnosis for more knowledge, Focalors protecting and upholding laws and regulations, etc etc. it would only make sense for the archons to match their visions’ wielders since they are head representations of their designated elements.

On the subject of Visions I think it involves a resonance of thought and emotion. I think when Ei locked herself away this made it more difficult. The same could be said of Nahida being imprisoned as I can't remember the last time someone received a Dendro vision.
We know that it's not just humans that have received visions thanks to all the Youkai and the Adepts. Also consider the fact that Scaramouche, a puppet, received a vision. Albedo being another.(Sorry if this puts a wrench in the reincarnation vision theory)
I think the key here to understanding lies in unlocking the knowledge of the old elemental world of Tehvat. Each elemental energy is like a separate species, similar in being a Primordial archetypal aspect, but each distinctive. Just as each vision wielder resonates with their vision I think it strongly depends on the state of their minds particularly the clarity of purpose which can reveal itself when a person's life is in jeopardy. Instead of fear and acceptance the allogenes experienced frustration forcing their Willpower to focus. As such a clarity of Will is not bound to near death experience alone it stands to reason that it's merely this proper resonance required for a Vision to manifest or reignite. Similar in fashion to lightning grounding it's current. As previously mentioned, the antediluvian elemental world experienced torrents of such energy and now it's been shackled. Visions are, imo, merely an example of what occurs when the resonance becomes so strong that it breaches the barriers between elemental/spiritual and the physical.

rana (aranara quest lady with axe) is the last one to get dendro vision (and technically the first time we see anyone get a vision unless you did interlude first), but depending on when you do the aranara quest she gets it before you meet nahida, after you meet her but nahida is still in prison and after you free nahida. and unlike ei - nahida actively wanted to interact with humans (and did so, as seen with dunyarzad and even traveler in the summer event)

    • @witchcandy3671
      @witchcandy3671 Před rokem

@@SorarikoMotone true enough, good of you to point it out. Again I was speaking in principle that with the influence of the Gnoses wielders the barrier between the elemental realm and Tehvat would be thinner I suppose and thus easier for not only a Vision wielder to be reborn but also as a manifestation of that particular element. There are indeed differences between Nahida and Ei not just in personality but also in circumstances.
This does bring to mind other questions worth puzzling over. Like how old the Gnoses are and why they don't appear to go dark. I speculate that Kazhua got burned by the Electro vision as an elemental resistance like 2 magnets pushing away from another unlike when other people removed the visions from those wielding them during the vision hunt decree. There's so much to consider about the loss of memories and changes in personality when a vision is lost that also need to be takin into consideration. Such might help to reveal even more about these connections.

The thing about visions is that they seem to be given indiscriminately. Because why would Celestia give the harbingers visions?
Also the sky nails seem to fail on nations that get out of place. Dragonspine knew of phanes with murals and so did orobashi with the book. Watasumi island may have been next when they gave orobashi the ultimatum. King Deshret also found out the forbidden knowledge and died.
So if the fatui is building technology that can mimic gods for war against them, why hasn't Celestia taken action with one of those nails?

My longstanding joke (but also not really) theory about cryo visions is that so far, every cryo character is some form of supernatural monster, beings whose mere existence is out of place and are therby unwanted by the world. But even those unloved by the world have a place within the frozen heart of the Tsaritsa, and she blesses them with her gift of cryo.
Qiqi is a zombie. Chongyun has unnaturally huge big yang energy, his mere presence warding away other supernatural beings. Rosaria is a vampire. Kaeya is a pirate. Diona is a catgirl. Ganyu is half adeptus. Eula is aristocracy, and since class hierarchy is unnatural, she qualifies as an unnatural abomination. Shenhe, though human, is phenomenally cursed, and has some enchantments on her that keep her murderous impulse in check. Layla has a sleep person. Ayaka confounded me for awhile, but i'm absolutely certain she is what is known as a Yuki-onna.
As of now, Mika still hasn't arrived in-game, and I know little about him, but i'm certain this pattern will continue and we will see his true face.

    Hi, great video!
The Visions in Genshin have been one of the great mysteries that I'm very interested in learning more so I'd like to ask why do you think the Visions might be primordial things predating the Gnoses? The way I understand it is that after the Second Who Came had their war with the Primordial One, Celestia opens the seven seats and the Archon War begins. Then there are the Seven victors who are granted the seven elemental Gnoses. And then living beings started receiving Visions like Ganyu, who receives her Vision after the War. Has there been any information of Visions before the end of the Archon War 2000 years ago? There's obviously some connection between the Gnoses and the Visions since both come in the exact seven elements, but the Gods before the War still had civilizations for whom they cared and the people worshiped them. So if Visions were granted since ancient times then for example shouldn't there perhaps be a salt Vision for the ideals of Havria? Since Visions grant possible ascention to Celestia and the Gnosis have been given by Celestia to the Archons then shouldn't Visions and Gnoses be recent invention by Celestia following the Archon War?
Maybe I'm missing something but that's my thought on the Visions so far. Thanks for reading all this! :D

I believe that even if Havria's people would received visions they would still be of one of the 7 elements, we know today. And Havria being associated with salt doesn't make her any less of a geo associated deity associating her with salt specifically just makes her character more unique. Salt is a mineral, a type of rock, but also a very soft mineral, alluding to her being gentle and weak.

Also I think a Gnosis is not just an upgraded vision. Sure, they might work in similar ways, but I don't believe it's possible to take a vision and turn it into a gnosis, however powerful you are. There is for example no apparent limit for how many visions there can be and they materialize somewhat automatically. The gnosis on the other hand were only made once by celestia and aren't activated/powered by their wielders desires, but by the people who worship them. That is why Venti is said to be the weakest od the seven.

    • @gosen-v

In the 2.5 Hyakunin Ikki event there was this quote: Burn, My Microcosmos!
Vision holders are matched by a certain constellation in the sky, which is to say that they have the power of a tiny cosmos within them. The thaumaturges of Liyue call this system of power "The Microcosmic Orbit" or the "Microcosmos."
But at the same time I feel the translation could be misleading, because other in game lore doesn't line up. Aloy has a vision but no constellation and it's the opposite with the twins. During the golden archipelago rerun, Mona talked about how she would read the fate of ordinary people with their constellations. Lastly I'm not certain, but in the unreconcilled stars event the adventurer who wanted to climb pre-dragonspine had a constellation but seemingly no visions.

@Gosen-V Yeah, I was thinking of Mona and Unreconciled Stars... I wonder if it's more that they are bound to their constellations? In either case I definitely discount Aloy, since she's less a character and more marketing. The twins... well, that gets into wild speculation territory.

I think a better encapsulation of Mona’s protective and nurturing nature would be her altruistic desire to use astrology to guide people along their fated paths in order to lead happy lives, rather than just her friendship with Fischl. In Summer Fantasia the beautiful starry sky we see in her domain is a reflection of her desire to see a “perfect” sky where no stars have fallen off track, meaning no bad fates.

This comes up a lot and I'm honestly not sold on calling that canon when it was only ever mentioned in the Web-comic, AND the name got reused for an NPC in the Hues of the Violet Garden quest (which was the one-time only event around Ayato's release) Basically I don't like to state anything as 100% fact in a video that other people might then repeat as fact because they heard it somewhere if there's any chance that that piece of info won't make it into the canon game.
Just on the fact that the Archon has never been named in-game and there are some questionable discrepancies already between in-game lore and the Manga stuff... It especially brings to mind how many times something has been given a name in a one-off fashion and then had that name changed to something else entirely (for example, the Qi of Yore quest was originally Qi of Guyun due to a mistranslation and the Vortex Vanquisher was originally "Kunwu's Iris Rift" upon release) so... Honestly until it's stated directly to me from someone In-game I'm considering that likely subject to change. Wouldn't be the first thing people considered fact that was changed suddenly. And it's a small enough detail that we can just call her the Pyro Archon until we know for sure haha.

Has any of you watch Black Clover? Why do i feel like the resurrection/reincarnation concept of genshin kinda similiar with the one in Black Clover Elf Reincarnation Arc?
    -BLACK CLOVER SPOILER-
Basically in black clover long time ago human race live side by side with the elf race. Both can use magic, but the elf race is "loved more" by the mana, therefore more powerfull in using magic. Thats one of the reason why elf and human kinda avoid each other, because of jealousy(?). But one day a princess from the human race kingdom fall in love with the leader from the elf race, everything goes well. Until the wedding time, where all of the elf race, along with the princess who's already pregnant is killed, betrayed by the royal kingdom.
Years later theres one elf that is reincarnated, his name is Patri. Then he finds out that all of his elf friend isn't really gone. Their appearance change to be some kind of floaty ball thing (only Patri can see them) that follow certain person that resembles their appearance in the past (those person is implied to be their reincarnation vessel). The person that followed by this elf soul is very good with magic too, they are "loved" by mana. But unlike Patri, the other elf can't enter because those body already has a soul of itself. Then Patri finds out that in order to resurrect his elf friend he needs to collect some stone and put it in a stone tablet.
And he did. After he collect all the stone those elf reincarnated in the body that they've followed, and put the og soul to a deep slumber. Why did Patri do all of this? So that the Elf race can take revenge to the humans for their betrayals. But turns out he is being played.
Turns out the one who provoke the royal kingdom to kill the elf long time ago is one of the demon race servant. He's the one who summon Patri too in the current time. Why? because the demon is trying to get his hand on a legendary item called "5 leaf Clover Grimoire". 5 leaf grimoire can only be achieved when the holder of a 4 leaf grimoire (the highest rank of grimoire) is corrupted, and turn themself into a giant Devil. This grimoire is the only grimoire demons can use. In the past, after seeing all his people got killed including his wife, the elf leader got corrupt and turns into a titan demon, along with his 4 leaf that turns into 5 leaf clover, but this time the demon failed to get his hand on the grimoire, thats why he resurrect Patri in the future.
Patri is only a pawn here.
What if this can be aplicated to the world of teyvat?
Elf who loved by "mana" in BC is the "Ancient Gods who wanders along with human before celestia established" in Genshin. Like, in the past they were just considered as another race, but more powerful than ordinary human (as you mention, maybe they're kinda related to the og Vishap ruler of the light realm). But now they're somehow viewed different, they're considered as a god.
Is that why there is a "dragonheir" term? So Vision holder = Reincarnation of old gods = Heir of the vishap ruler(???)
And what if Pierro collecting gnosis is somehow an attempt to resurrect those gods to replace the vessel (vision wielder), so then they can rebels against celestia with the power from their og ruler (Vishap)?

Which PCs do NOT exhibit loyalty (Geo)? which PCs are NOT fulfilling their potential or learning (Dendro)? Loneliness isn't for everyone but suits Cryo more than Electro. Kuki Shinobu isn't lonely. Lisa is one of the most social PCs. Beidou is charismatic. So is Dori. Yae Miko may be apart as head minister (but then so is Ningguang); she's not lonely. Keqing has plenty of friends. Which NPCs don't have any loss? to the extent that you count Sucrose? her friends didn't die. They just grew up. The character with the most loss is Rosaria. Orphaned at a young age, then found a new family then she had to kill her own new dad, then all her 2nd family were killed. But she gets Cryo. And who has Jean lost? "nurturing and Protecting / the arts (Hydro). Who isn't one of those? Mona's pretty bad. You only say she protects Fischl who was listed as lonely electro precisely for apparently not having any friends? Pick one. Mona protects nobody, isn't nurturing and isn't studying any arts. I guess Bennet isn't either. Loving is Cryo? Which PCs don't love or long for anything? actually which don't do both? Personified ideals and Justice? (pyro) not sure what that even means but again who does it NOT apply to? but honestly Bennet doesn't have either much. These theories are unfalsifiable.

Any time I hear someone explain their list of correlations between personalities and Vision element I know it's going to be terrible. If people took a few seconds to think that all their cold reading style match ups apply just as well (if not better - most Cryo users qualify for the Electro personality in this video better than the Electro users do) when matched against allogenes of different elements. Here's one for you: Electro Bow users are all women who can travel to different worlds. Well if Sara gets her act together and brushes up on her Tengu warrior skills at least..... The only decent one I've seen is that all the Cryo allogenes are lonely. At least loneliness isn't something that everyone qualifies for like "having desires" or "having goals" or "being loyal" to something.
