    Looks like I'm the first runner up. lol. From what I can gather from their interviews, they were raised bilingual and particularly in private school. Their parents and manager are also bilingual. I'm guessing maybe everyone from Monterrey is bilingual, (kidding, I have no idea). Turns out, when they began writing songs, they discovered that for them, writing lyrics in English for Rock music was easier than trying to make lyrics in Spanish fit the style and make sense. However, they do have two songs in Spanish. The first one, Narcisista, was a diss-track for their haters. Mexican nationalist began to criticize them for recording songs in English, and called them "malanchistas," which means cultural traitors. So they wrote this song for them: czcams.com/video/O7IAEhN4RMM/video.html. Their second song is one of my favorites and it's a single included in their MayDay EP and full legnth album Error. czcams.com/video/KRA3nMzF31M/video.html. Enjoy!

    Nice! They actually live in the town of San Pedro Garza García which is a suburb of Monterrey, Mexico. They were brought up from an early age with bilingual education. They watched rock concert DVDs as a family - Queen, Pink Floyd, etc. So when they started writing their own songs, English was the natural language for them. They said it was easier, and it helped catapult them to international fame. Mexican critics slammed them for not composing in Spanish and they answered back with the Spanish song Narcisista, for which you should do a reaction. The Foro Didi concert is the best version.

    Hey Samantha! Great reaction. Interesting insight that the girls put themselves performing in all of their videos. I believe that their energy, enthusiasm and just plain talent is their "superpower" and deserves to be on display. As for your questions, yes, they still live in Monterrey, Mexico (though they are currently touring the US with Halestorm and The Pretty Reckless). While they have two Spanish language songs in their catalogue to date (Narcisista and Martirio) they have stated that they have found it easier to write in English. They will likely introduce more Spanish songs in future albums.
    Since you noted that Pau is a "bada$$") and you loved her voice on "Creep" - I'd love to get your take on songs that Pau sings on this album. They are NOTHING like what you've reacted to from The Warning before. I HIGHLY suggest you check out the song “23” czcams.com/video/wWW46SudR7Y/video.html ... and also “Revenant” czcams.com/video/bTzjJNgAlTk/video.html - it’s impossible not to feel the pain, vulnerability, isolation and desperation in her voice. (Both are lyric videos released by the band.) Enjoy!

    Yes, they do live in Monterrey (San Pedro, to be more precise). One reason they sing in English is because they started with rock covers from a very early age, so it was kind of natural for them to keep it. Besides, in Monterrey many, many people are bilingual due to the proximity with the US border.

  • @mt4design2
    @mt4design2 Před 2 lety +19

    I am only speculating but perhaps the reason they began singing in English is because the songs in the game Rock Band were in English, the bands they grew up listening to sang in English and the covers they did early on were in English so writing rock songs in English was a natural progression. They have stated that writing in Spanish is harder but they have two songs out now in Spanish and even a bit of French in the song Amour. Great reaction.

    • @elgonwilliams7624
      @elgonwilliams7624 Před rokem +1

      There's a misconception in the US that not many people in Mexico speak English. While it is not the main language, it has been taught in most schools there for quite a while and in many of the larger cities it is quite normal to find people who speak very good English. DPA attended a very good school before being home schooled once their obligations to the band and practice started taking so much of their time. Also, their parents are bilingual. You may be right about their song writing starting with the music they were enjoying and perhaps they were more comfortable writing in English because of that, but anyone listening to them conduct an interview realizes quickly that they speak with almost no accent at all and comfortably slip between both languages. They also know some French, obviously.

    I've heard that this video was recorded in day, including the scenes of the girl 'drowning' in a swimming pool. Great special effects. And there is a live session video of this recorded in a studio that is just as good as this, if not better. On that one, Ale (the bassist) actually sings a brief part of the song.

    • @Novaprime64
      @Novaprime64 Před rokem +1

      I think very likely Ale also does the soft solo near the end in the album/video version, you can hear her alongside Dany, who is a tad distant in that part, being almost like an echo. But Ale’s tone is distinct and i hear it in that solo here as well. The live session version I think emphasizes it because Dany completely goes silent

      @@Novaprime64 I think it shocked everybody upon first seeing the Live Session version and hearing Ale's voice. It was a treat. Maybe someone will ask her about that and whether she is in the background with her vocal on the studio recording.

  • @mjc1389
    @mjc1389 Před rokem +1

    Both Pau and Ale have garnered attention from their peers in the rock world for their proficiency on their instruments.
    They don’t write songs with dramatic solos for any part of the trio. The simple fact that Pau and Ale essentially comprise the rhythm section of the band naturally gives them more opportunities to be noticed in various parts of most of their songs.
    Dany has the role of lead singer and playing both lead and rhythm guitar parts. This in combination with their songwriting style doesn’t lend itself to Dany really standing out as a guitarist.
    If they do write any kind of a solo for Dany it’s usually short and remains in the content of almost being another harmonic vocalist.
    Their songs are mostly well written lyrically and compositionally and don’t require an elaborate guitar solo as a filler. Their motto is to give the song what it needs and nothing more.
    IMO, Dany is somewhat under appreciated instrumentally but she definitely makes up for it vocally.
    She not a Floor Jansen but she has a surprising range and tonality that should be appreciated.

    I believe they sing mostly in English because their musical influences are mostly English speaking. I think I heard on of them say they also find it easier to write songs in English. Their original song Nacsista (spelling?) is their response to criticism they received for not singing in Spanish. I highly recommend that song if you have not already heard it.

    They played the song 26 times to get all the camera shots. Alejandra was suffering from vertigo, though you couldn't tell. Paulina couldn't lift her arms to wash her hair afterwards. The film crew recorded the water scenes until 5am. They put a lot of time and effort into their videos and I appreciate when reactors view them. The live session is good but, the sound quality isn't as good and you don't get the light box, which is really awesome.

    Great reaction Samantha!
    The Warning have lived together with their parents in the same home in the suburb of Monterrey, Mexico San Pedro Garza Garcia for quite some time if not their entire lives. As you may know they started classical piano lessons at very young ages around 5 years old. Their parents enrolled them in the private Catholic English speaking school Liceo de Monterrey, Mexico at 5 years old. Of course the music they loved growing up was mostly songs written in English. They have said that their vocabulary is larger in English than in Spanish and writing songs in English comes more natural than in Spanish. This is likely due to their school homework and assignments done in English. They are also well read. However they do have 2 songs they have written in Spanish: Narcisista and Martirio.

    Hey Sam,
    Another great reaction to a fantastic song. This song has it all. Great lyrics which are relatable, thumping bass line, incredible drums and a superb vocal performance from Dany whilst throwing in those heavy riffs. The only real difference between the music video and the live video is that you missed seeing Ale sing a little portion on her own. You should watch the live version just to appreciate Ale's short vocals. We, at TWA absolutely love it when Ale sings as it is a rare treat.
    Well Sammy, A well known saying amongst TWA is your favourite The Warning song is the last The Warning song you listened to.
    Every new song that you hear from these ladies has their stamp on it but the songs are never the same and are so different ,leaving you wondering, how much more can they raise the bar!
    These sisters still live with their parents in Monterrey Mexico. They are a tight family unit and have great love for each other. They also prefer to write in English as they say it is a lot more easier to write in English than Spanish. I suppose growing up listening to English Rock that is how they got their influences from.
    If you think Choke was mind blowing, you should try some brand new songs such as Amour or 23. Only available on lyric video at the moment.
    If you have time you should react to their TedX performance from 2017 where they introduce themselves and has 3 amazing songs. Unmendable, when I'm alone and the fan favourite, Survive.
    This video is about 18 minutes long but we'll worth the reaction.
    A performance EVERY The Warning fan appreciates in buckets. Take care Sam and thanks for reactions. These girls will have your soul soon. They already have mine. 🤟

    Hey Samantha, the retorical question, when do they sing in english - please go back to "Narcissita" - my understanding (I am not in any way fluent in spanish) is that spanish is simply not an easy language for rock songs. And the market is bigger for english language songs. But, Warning will write in spanish if they can get the lyrics work with the melody - see Martirio - a wonderful song.

    They do sing songs in Spanish. English is the most spoken language in the world, and spoken widely in countries where its not the native language. They want to reach the most people, and English is the way to do that. I'm guessing you speak Spanish? If so, is it your native language, and why don't you do your vids in Spanish? If you watch many of their YT vids, they answer many questions, etc, in Spanish, and is a reason I don't watch many, since I don't know what they are saying 80 percent of the time.

    The Warning, their parents, family and support staff are from Monterrey. Monterrey is very close to the U.S. border, and this border is extremely long (close to 2000 miles, or more than 3000 km). There are many Mexicans who live next to the border, and so many are bilingual. The girls speak Spanglish a lot (a mixture of English and Spanish), and seem to be comfortable with both languages, but they have mentioned that writing Rock songs is more natural in English than Spanish. Personalmente, yo aprécio las diferencias entre los dos lengüajes y prefiero el Ingles para el Rock, el Español es demasiado sutil y poetico, y mas bello.
