It's so hard to watch Sandavol speak.. Schwartz basically has to translate for him because he literally cannot string a coherent sentence together. It's like he's lying as he speaks and realises that story won't get the receiption he wants so he switches up mid sentence and just sounds like a spoilt child complaining. it's so sad cos you can see from this he really hasn't learnt anything and he will do this again.

I don’t think that’s a schtick…. I heard kempire(psychology background) say he thought Schwartz may be undiagnosed on the spectrum for Asperger’s/autism…. And that makes perfect sense! Also ends up coming across kind of narcissistic at times, esp in relationships such as marriage! Which also makes such sense when you see what the struggles always were there:( all a bummer, hopefully can still look into and do counseling w/katie… see where it could go then…..
As for Sandoval, it’s 2hard to listen where you can tell he’s struggling and point he’s wanting to get to… and he stops himself(like he’s heard over and over…. Dude you say the word like soooo many times! And he hears himself, then f f f he f’t up! How’s that? That’s what everyone wants…. 2. Nick and Natalie giving each other little looks throughout the conversation
3. Tom Schwartz, trying not to laugh at Sandoval
4. Sandoval trying to take on Schwartz's personality to sound nicer and failing to keep it going for more than 5 seconds before sounding abrasive

Nick and Natalie absolutely crushed this interview!!! so professional, such thoughtful and articulate questions, and managed to perfectly control the flow of the interview where other hosts probably would have gotten lost in the chaos and got off track. You always ask the questions people ACTUALLY want to know, as opposed to a lot of other podcasts that land big guests (other hosts often seem too intimated to ask hard questions)...never disappoints! This podcast deserves all the success it is having!

Exactly! That’s what I was thinking. Very often in this interview Schwartz tried to bail out Sandoval from digging himself a deeper hole, as PR agents do LOL. He did a good job of it a lot of the time too. I feel bad that Schwartz has had to take on that role as Sandoval’s friend.

“Do you think you’re entitled to her reasonable-ness” is the best question you could have asked him. He didn’t get it, but it sums up all of the reasons he needs therapy.

To go to the attack, look down upon or scare by raising their voice, gaslight, deny, shift focus, be TOTALLY lacking in accountability or self awareness, always leading with ego and entitlement. It all reeks from him when adressing her, and talking about his ex. The blame shifting instead of just taking accountability and say, THERE ARE NO EXCUSES valid enough. It is constant. Without a doubt, Tom Sandoval is “not sober” here. His late arrival, his body language, random topic diversions, etc make this undeniable. This is more than “not sleeping” the night before. As a VPR fan from the start, this behavior is odd, at best. Also, Schwartz’s attempts to save him were GLARING on the watch. This was not as apparent on the listen. #unhinged This was really difficult to see.

The sad (and disappointing) thing of all of this, is that Nick wants Tom Sandoval (both Tom’s) to be able to be understood, have second chances, and share their stories/struggles. Nick knows what it is like to be shown as a villain and empathetic to those who make mistakes, but to learn from them. The fact that Tom Sandoval didn’t use this opportunity, shows his true character. I feel sorry that he doesn’t realize any better. Schwartz on the other hand takes accountability & acknowledges faults/mistakes.
Exactly! I have a lot more respect for Swartz after listening to him, he took total accountability, he articulates himself really well as for Sandoval quite the opposite, yes he says the things people want to hear but it doesn't come across sincere and he still has to put out there excuse and place blame on Ariana.

Am I the only one who noticed Sandoval was struggling? He is not ok. It wasn’t a good time to confront him. I felt uncomfortable watching him get challenged when it seemed he was having trouble holding it together. I think he forgot about the podcast, was on something, and may even have been having difficulties beforehand.

Tom being late is another example of how he hasn’t changed. Passive aggressive way of expressing his anger towards someone because he doesn’t have the skill or self awareness to express himself assertively (like breaking up with Ariana and expressing his real emotions toward nick like being made that nick was late to his podcast or feeling worried about doing the interview). Can we also talk about how he has build some fucken phenomenal defenses that are seriously keeping him from having self-awareness and growing. I hope he has a good therapist and he sticks through it.

Schwartz can't be his own person and/or contradict Scumdoval because he has to be the loudest in the room. He needs the attention and all eyes on him. I met Tom Schwartz at Schwartz and Sandy’s in August of 2023. The bar was absolutely dead and Schwartz was literally so kind and engaging and you can tell he really is passionate about his bar.
So sad to see him so blindly loyal to Sandoval to the point it’s affected all areas of his life.
Of course he loves the Bar he put all his $$ in it. But he’s an A$$ like Sandoval. He didn’t have to be so mean to Katie. He did it in fun and enjoyed hurting her.
I’m surprised it’s empty. I thought the attention would drive up the customers. Sandoval needs to start going to socialise there too. People will go just to meet him. As long as there’s a one drink rule or an entry fee the trolls will control themselves.

I actually hope that this shows Nick that his often showed stance that he wants to see everyone getting a second chance, get to share their side of the story, or see them as able to grow/change. Is NOT something that works for a category of people. They only use the chance to give their side of the story to further tell lies, give new excuses, tries to shift blame or manipulate. Again.
And that he can let go of the thought that EVERYONE can change or grow. No, not if you belong to that category of person(ality). Because as he can see now (hopefully), he (Sandoval) don’t have that ability to self reflext or lead with empathy or self awareness, he can’t see how wrong he is, because when it comes down to it, he is too entitled and don’t tjonk he is so wrong. So why would he be able to ”get it” and grow? There is a reason that ppl that treat ppl like him (SORRY, similar to his personality traits) say that it is almost impossible to make them that much better, perhaps a few %. But the problem is, as soon as they bump in to certain issues or situations in life, they revert back to their entitled, manipulative, totally selfish world view. Again.
The definition of ”hopeless case”. But I get we don’t want to think that some people can’t change. But we perhaps must accept when they won’t or when we should stop giving 2, 3, 4:th chances for people to excuse, explain away sh*t. And just see that if ppl are giving chances to change, but the same behavior continues, WE are being manipulated. So to then think, ”but he/she can change” is just a fools arrend to stick to. After we’ve gotten the proof of the opposite. Maybe it is ok to say, I give up, I have no reason to believe they can or want to change. So, bye!

When Sandoval started crying, I REALLY wish James Kennedy would come out and jusy lay into him the way he did at the reunion when he was crying.

I think Schwartz was honestly there to try to do damage control for Sandoval, and therefore for their business. Sucks for them that Lisa was able to capitalize on their brand with TomTom and make great money from the association when their image was good, but that S&S is now sinking for the same association.
Toms - maybe don't name your business after yourselves and make its creation a major plot point on your reality show if you don't want its commercial success linked to "one's actions in one's personal life" (which are also on the show)

Nick is correct that people-pleasing is related to narcissism. It’s a socially acceptable way to be selfish. Because people-pleasing means you’re (perhaps unintentionally) manipulating people into not being displeased with you by doing what they want. It’s not authentic. Many of us are people-pleasers and it’s something for us to work on and acknowledge as very unhealthy behaviour.
People pleasing sometimes starts in childhood when navigating with one or more Narcissistic Parent. Survival!
