With the slightest smirk ever seen on a killer beetle
I remembered getting lucky catching a Heracross in Platinum. Once it learned Close Combat, I was grinning. Once it learned Megahorn, I was laughing like a maniac.
Toss in Night Slash and Stone Miss - I mean Stone Edge - and this beetle was ripping things apart left, right and center.
@@mcdonnell-douglasdc-1056 why not replace Stone Miss with Rock Slide
Herracrosses design is so solid. Doesn't need to be a robot death machine like scizzor, or a flaming moth like volcarona. Just a basic looking beetle with a horn that happens to be able to OHKO half the game. Best bug hands down
I am one of the few people who prefer Pinsir to Heracross, always have, even before megas, but Heracross is in my top 10 favorite pokemon, just outside my top 6, which would be a team I'd use. To think that Ash taught Heracross Sleep Talk in Sinnoh to counter... Kriketune AND Darkrai. And to think Darkrai lived a point-blank Megahorn from Heracross. Sinnoh Ash was the absolute peak.
Sinnoh Ash was so good they had to get some broken dude with a team of legendaries just so he wouldn't win the championship, which is still some next level BS

Ooh Heracross. The thing with a horrendous fighting movepool in gen 2 but got so much better in the remakes. Plus its mega changing it’s playstyle to multi hit moves is sick. Overall such a great mon
It didn’t get much better in the remakes tbh
One of the few mons like Ho-Oh that got better in more recent gens.
Yeah the only physical Fighting STABs it had IIRC were Seismic Toss, Reversal and DynamicPunch. And since it only had Bug/Ground coverage, it was walled by Skarmory and couldn't check Snorlax unless it ran 2/3 available niche secondary STABs.
@@hagman1579 Close Combat, Night Slash, Shadow Claw, Rock coverage…
Somehow that’s not better?
Plus the abilities?
@@hagman1579 Bro, in HGSS, Heracross is a brute. Aerial Ace at lv 13, Brick Break at lv 19, CLOSE COMBAT at lv 37, plus he can be taught Stone Edge, Rock Slide, Swords Dance, Earthquake, and Shadow Claw by tm. He's caught fairly early on and matches up well against a ton of the gym leaders. Also, he can be taught Facade to combo with Guts, which is easier to set off in gen 4 thanks to the addition of the Flame Orb.
Heracross is basically the definition of "hard to switch into". Even in tiers where it's not very good it's often making you very uncomfortable if it gets a free turn
I mean, would anyone really wants to let a mon that already has 125 attack to set up Swords Dance?

I always felt like if heracross got U-Turn, it would have definetley remained relevant. I mean could you imagine? Checking heracross, let alone mega heracross, was a difficult task that slowly got easier over the years, which is why it fell off, but if it got U-turn then checking it would become near IMPOSSIBLE.
180 base attack stab u turn for mega heracross would be absurd.

A rhinoceros beetle can lift things that are roughly 850 times their own body weight, if that sort of thing was translated to the games, regular Heracross would be able to lift 45 Celesteelas while Mega Heracross would be able to lift 53 Celesteelas.
This oddly adorable beetle is am absolute monster of power.
According to one Pokedex entry, it can lift 100 times it own weight effortlessly. My friend and I did the math, and that would be roughly 13 Aggrons worth of weight. This bug boi is a BEAST.

*Flashbacks to Terminal Montage's Mega Pokemon Video*
Imagine how Heracross would have been if it knew a reliable Fighting STAB in GS; considering how prominent Snorlax was.
Since this got remade, hoping for the Venusaur video to be remade since Venusaur's an interesting Pokémon competitively, and was the second Pokemon analyzed on this channel after Charizard, the Pokemon it was paired with in the first Pokemon games in JP.
Heracross shouldve gotten Cross Chop
@@xx_v_xx4373 thought it did for a while tbh.
Heracross technically does have reliable fighting STAB in gen 2 through Hidden Power Fighting.
@@dysr You have to drastically lower your hp dv to get it, it's not worth it.
Either that, or get to low health and take advantage of Reversal.
*”I fear no bug, but that one, it scares me”* - Nearly every Pokémon in existence
Scizor and Volcarona could be the same
Heracross has been a trooper throughout all these generations.
From not having a good fighting STAB in Gen 2, to having to compete with Scizor in Gen 4, to having to compete with other fighting types/fighting type megas from Gen 6-9, Heracross has shown the community that it should always belong in a high tier.
Just goes to show how good of a move Megahorn is.
Unless we have even more extreme power creep than seen before heracross will likely be NU at worst
Despite having a 4x weakness, you know you’re GREAT when you’re able to stay away from NU for 7 whole generations!
With just raw power too!
On the contrary, having a 4x weakness is far from a death sentence to a Pokemon's viability, as there are plenty of examples of Pokemon that have this trait that are still good, if not great in spite of this. Another bug introduced in gen2 in the form of Scizor has also managed a similar feat, and when last I checked, Pokemon like Swampert and Dragonite (among others) have proven to be similarly effective. But in Heracross's case, it's sheer power makes it a dangerous offensive Pokemon in whichever tier it finds itself in, especially since it can spam 2 different 120 base power STAB moves that only have fairly minor drawbacks
Like Matthew said, 4x weaknesses aren't necessarily a death sentence, especially not one to flying. While flying is an excellent offensive typing for any Mon that has STAB on it (especially if they have fighting/ground coverage), it's one of the least useful coverage types out there.
You will almost never see anything halfway strong offensively walled by a fighting or bug type and grass has plenty of other weaknesses that mons can casually deal with. Only time I've seen something run a flying move to bypass a matchup was Crawdaunt potentially running Aerial ace to hit Chestnaught in gen 6 UU. That's it.
So the only mons that will try to strike you with a flying type move are flying types themselves. And at that point, well, you just switch.
Heracross: time to make that 8
Then again, very few non flying types run flying type attacks. and Heracross either kills a flying type switching in with a Rock predict, or switches out after chunking it.
It's not often we see a Bug type Pokémon absolutely DESTROYING the competitive scene on a scale such as this.
on the other hand, scizor.

Let’s goooooooo! One of my favourite pokémon, and a really fun mon to play in competitive. Fun to see it getting a remake. Really deserved!
That gen 4 sprite shows just how much Heracross' power got to its head. It is absolutely drunk on power.
Possibly my favorite bug type mon, Heracross really needed that remake for such a great competitive career. Thank you so much!!
Hello noob frog. I will cream you in yba once again
In Gen 1: "Hahaha! Look at the bug-catcher!"
In Gen 2: "Shhh! That guy's a bug-catcher!"
My personal favourite pokemon, who knew such simple designs could go such a long way.
Heracross is one of favorite Bug-Type Pokémon. Firstly, has an awesome name, secondly, its design, though simple, was still pleasing to the eyes, and thirdly, it had a fun fighting style with the moves it had access to. These are just my feelings (obviously) but whenever I had the chance, I'd put a Heracross on my team. I still remember how hard I'd hope that this time, this honeyed tree would be the one to bring my Heracross home.
Out of all the remakes I was not expecting heracross.
A surprise to be sure but a welcome one
I want a steelix remake now. Considering how it's one of the most viewed videos on your channel I think he deserves it.
Yeah. I think that will happened. It's just we got other Pokemons that has been reviewed way early than when they got to Steelix. So it'll be an while.
Heracross is easily one of my favorite bug types since; it looks exactly like a rhinocerous beetle without being too terrifyingly buglike at the same time, and is a great pokemon to have on your team. I had one on my heartgold team and it was easily one of the MVPs, OHKOing whitney's miltank with brick break and dominating so many other pokemon throughout the game with its surprisingly high speed (on account of its nature), great power, and movepool. Hell, it managed to outspeed red's pikachu despite being quite a few levels lower, and basically solo'd half of his team anyway. I'm happy that it's been a great competitive pokemon through and through even though i don't personally play it myself.
Mega Heracross is cool, but back in Gen 6 at least, I was discouraged enough by the speed drop and lack of Guts (Battle Maison is filled with a lot of status inflicters), so Flame Orb Guts Heracross was my go-to mon instead.
Ahhh heracross, the early powerhouse in generation two, the defeater of darkrai, and one of my favorite pokemon
"Heracross easily lives a mewtwo psychic"....
Wow, I knew heracross was kinga chunky, but daaaaamn that bulky AF
Yes! Remake!
Also really hoping we get Lanturn or Chesnaut soon!

Ah Heracross, the beginning of what seemed to be a Bug Type’s dream of entering Competitive Play. David the Heracross was one of my best teammates in Crystal, and Colosseum didn’t disappoint me with Megahorning Cipher and thwarting Evice’s plans.
