I guess I would need to watch the movie to understand this: they gave several hints that Amber was a monster, from watching her shadow while she was changing, so why did the entity eat her? what was the meaning behind her ghostly shadow?
Could have been the shadow that made it look like it was her shadow to mess with his mind.

ummm I don't think you've see a lot of movies... I can name about 5 (3 horror) off the top of my head where a Caucasian dies first...
Edit: the first thing I thought of was "Deep Blue Sea", where a 'black person' is the last survivor of the horror movie... so I looked up the first death(s) and as I remembered, it is a Caucasian death [3 actually all in one explosion], including a "Dr. Whitlock" portrayed by Stellan Skarsgård.
