    Good information. Swapped Cadillac eldarado integral parking brake calipers on my Ford 9" and the brake travel was horrible until adjustment. I guess there a reason they only used this style caliper for a handful of years... They work great but need to be adjusted periodically as brake pads wear. Normal calipers don't require any adjustments through the pad life.

    Hey Jason, good to meet ya buddy. I enjoyed the video and it was pretty straight forward. I do want to ask though if I could get your advice on something. I have a 2005 Cadillac SRX 4.6L and the E-Brake not working almost got us killed about a month ago out on 23S in Kentucky. The mountains aren't anything to mess with and the brakes are literally life or death here, more so than in the city (Columbus, Ohio) where I am from. So I have the parking brake not engaging at all in Drive and this was an issue where the passenger's side brake line failed toward the back and we had to swing in a parking lot full of people going out 45mph, circling the lot and honking our horn until it began to get attention. *******I have been trying to figure this out and have literally no one to help me. Yesterday I started it up, held the brake in and shifted to drive and pressed in the E Brake and let up off the regular brake - the car rolled with no grab from the E Brake, but it held (although lightly) in reverse. Anything you can tell me to help me would be greatly appreciated. The Front Passenger's side also has a rupture in the brake line right behind the wheel on the inside of the engine cabin that I can't seem to get to with a cutter to put in a section of brake line and the caliper on that wheel is also not engaging at all. Anyone you know in the area that could help and any advice you can offer would be great, buddy. What you think? Have a great day, brother!

    For adjusting the hand brake like you did in the video, my hand brake rear left wheel is loose, the one on the right is good, i lift the rear car both wheels in the air and applied the hand brake and rear right wheel is really strong checked by hand if i can move it , but on rear left i can move it by hand, so i think this is what i have to do, to adjust like you did, is that means because hand brake is loose for that wheel is normal foot brake loose as well for that wheel? And does need brake bleeding after this or just adjust and good to go?? Thanks. Nice video

    Thanks for this... doing a typical disc brake conversion kit on an Econoline and the instructions are somewhat awful for a beginner. This was really helpful! It does use basically this same style caliper ( I think 99% of the kits do). I've done like 1 set of calipers in my life like 10 years ago.. so I wasn't sure if there is a rule of thumb for pad friction on the rotor for new brakes. I did cycle the piston before installing ( of course ) just to see the action but have my shims setup so they are both just about touching the rotor. This is fine for break in? some rubbing? Or is there a feeler gauge I should use.. Other question is my truck has a Rear ABS setup with valve.. does this help make up for not having a proportioning valve? Thanks, and thanks for the video.

      @@CPPmaster it wasnt.. just the same "el dorado" a / g body caliper whatever you want to call it. Luckily I found some other resources as well but unfortunately got into a mess of getting the whole piston out to re clock it to notch the pad properly. Calipers are installed now and im pretty sure already well adjusted (pads are rubbing which is good.. someone said that GM actually calls for 30 ft lbs of drag! ) but wont really know until the truck is fully built and can go back and forth in the driveway. Luckily someone posted this video as a comment where someone with an F-150 was complaining about spongy pedal ( the poor guy went out and bought wilwoods! before realizing how to adjust it properly) . So it was nice to upload this to give a quick overview of how these particular calipers operate... especially messing around with any of these kits in old vehicles with no air bags! cant be too safe with brake setup.

    I initially had too much gap so I got them adjusted with this video to about 1/8-1/16 of an inch. Went for a drive and the brakes felt much better. BUT... The rear brakes were getting very hot after about 5 miles. Could this just be because it was initially not adjusted close enough?

    • @CPPmaster
      @CPPmaster  Před 2 lety +1

      The method is still effective but you can expect some brake fluid to leak out and you should re-bleed your brake system once the adjustment is completed.

    Good video. I've watched several of these and I still don't get it. Why do you take the lever off and then use a wrench to turn the same nut that the lever was attached to? Why not just turn the nut with the lever? It seems that you turn the wrench one way and then turn it back - how exactly does this adjust the pad clearance? Does this not just move the pads in and out. I'm sure I'm missing something. Any clarification anybody can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

      Jules, just did this for the first time today on my brother's truck, which has the CPP calipers shown in the video on the rear. The nut has to come off, because the lever also has to come off, because it is blocking the **hex section of the shaft** that you turn with the wrench to move the piston in and out. The nut goes back on to keep the adjuster from falling into the caliper--it is not used to make the actual adjustments.
      The shaft is like a ratcheting socket wrench--it engages one direction and just spins in the other. Try it and you'll see quickly.

    Now let’s talk about the bleeding procedure.
    Do you bleed them with the calipers parking brake engaged or disengaged?
    Also……..
    One of my calipers. Drivers side only. Is pulling in air. It is not leaking fluid but it is sucking in air for sure.
    I know this because I have a sealed brake bleeder that’s open. No air is coming into the threads. It’s hooked up to a long 3/16 line that’s attached to the bleeder. It runs……back to the master cylinder.
    I have both rear calipers set up this way.
    The drivers side keeps pulling in air and the passenger side doesn’t.
    Neither leak fluid.
    As for the parking brake. As long as you do it empty and off the car. It’s easy to get that 1/16th engagement.
    I found the parking brake easy to get right.
    But I can’t get it to bleed the air out.
    That one side makes for a very soft pedal

  • @marvinstracke
    @marvinstracke Před 2 lety

    What if my ratchet mechanism does not work? Is that possible?
    when I turn it into the opposite direction, I feel some resistance, yes. But cycling it forth and back doesn't do anything to the position - so no adjustment at all.
    Needless to say that I'm doing it exactly as in the video.
    What's wrong here?
