I honestly forgot about Metal Gear Survive...
You should be thankfull
Jesus christ, that was only last year? How long was 2018?
bout a year
Consider yourself lucky.
I didn't realize it was a 2018 game lol
For those who didn’t see the website version, here are his honorable mentions:
Far Cry 5
+ Good for a Ubisoft sandbox
- A Ubisoft sandbox
The Inpatient
- No redeeming qualities
+ At least mercifully brief
Just Cause 4
- Lazy cash-in sequel
+ Still fun to stick jet thrusters to goats
Vampyr
- Britain at its most boring
+ ... if it weren't for We Happy Few
Not Tonight
+ Engaging and funny
- Preferred it when Lucas Pope did it
God of War 4
+ Ehhhhhhhhhhhh
- Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
thank you jojo
Mysterious Jojo God of War: I get an axe that plays like Thor’s hammer. Hell yeah!
Nothing on rdr2? Weird.
Oh calm down you the person who's typing down furiously to give me a piece of your mind, i didn't want him to praise it i just wanted to know his opinion on it
I can't believe that much people hadn't talked about Lethal League Blaze. That game's really good, and out on PC already.
@@peterheck2429 i think it was a situation like A hat in time and Mario Oddessy last year where he was choosing between those games
Yahtzee probably the only critic that could not include RDR2 in his top 5 games of the year and go unscathed in the comments section.
Man this aged poorly

Anand Chauhan officially, it came out of early access
It came out last year actually

@@coletrainhetrick False. It came out of early access in 2018.
Yeah, but it's been on early access since I was in diapers
I am disappointed that hunt down the freeman didn't get put in the bin with ride to hell
Ride to Hell was made by a "real" developer, not some random jonny like HdtF
To put it IN the bin, you would have to first OPEN the bin, and I don't think we can take that kind of risk with Ride to Hell
I mean, at least Ride to Hell was ironically bad and kinda funny for it. Hunt down the Freeman is not so much funny as is it is depressing and insulting.
That bin is quite literally not big enough for two games
Pretty sure HDTF mentally scarred those who played it. :/
Oh god, Yahtzee, I was eating!
I did not need to see Metal Gear Survive again.
You’re the whole reason I played Return of the Obra Dinn and I’m absolutely in love with it too.
The only thing that shocked me is that it's taken you this long to get bored of Assassins Creed
In my opinion it just seems like Odyssey is just an AC rip off of Shadow of Mordor/War which ripped off AC. Strange how many of the spartan abilities and perks seem really tame in comparison to those you can find in the LOTR versions. Though I haven't played all that much of odyssey because the combat was just super repetitive and it just pissed me off that I spent around five hours straight trying to beat the first bounty hunter despite him being a couple levels higher than me. Makes no sense how you can't even assassinate in a game called Assassin's Creed and instead will get your ass handed to you by some enemy they literally have chase you within the first hour of gameplay. Oh well, those are just my thoughts on it though. Nothing will ever compare to Brotherhood I guess.
@GiRayne I dunno man. I come from games like Dragon's Dogma and Dark Souls that are pretty damn linear despite having huge and complex areas you can navigate and progression seems obvious. I don't understand what the point is in having an open world game that punishes you for exploring. If the game is meant to be linear, then make it linear. If it was meant to open world and fully explorable then I feel as if there shouldn't be some sort of ridiculous impossible obstacle preventing you from going that way. Dark souls is a skill based game in which you could explore new areas if you were cautious, and yet AC just sends some tanky NPC after you for apparently no reason other than giving you something to avoid. In Shadow of Mordor the Nemesis system allowed you to systematically reduce the enemies chain of command while introducing you to unique and interesting minibosses with their own backstories and personalities. It makes sense for them to hunt you, and for you to hunt them in turn, but I don't see how this is beneficial in ACO. It just irks me that they would let you wander wherever you want but end up punishing you when you encounter an enemy. I feel as if that's a cheap way to artificially administer challenge by making your character reliant only on his equipment and severely handicapping player skill. Combat in these new RPG AC games just don't feel well to me as it's just a load of attacking and countering. There's no real skill to it because even unparriable attacks are super obvious and easily avoided. This just isn't my type of game because I was expecting two different things: Either a traditional old school AC game that focusses on asassination, or a RPG that gives the player wide ranges of choice in character progression and exploration. I've played the likes of Elex, which had shit combat and all story (not saying ACO doesnt have well polished combat, it just isnt that engaging when the challenge is supplemented by tanky enemies) and could never wrap my head around how that could be a pleasant experience to anyone. Maybe I haveny played ACO enough yet but it just doesn't seem to live up to my expections.
I loved ACII and Brotherhood back in the day and even I haven't touched the franchise in years
@GiRayne I've not played an Ass Creed game for ages but I'm really enjoying odyssey. Combat isn't just stand there and wait to press the counter button anymore. I'm liking the different weapons like spears and staffs (staves?). My only issue with the game is the same issue I have with most rpgs, it's just such a time commitment. So many games go for the open world thing but don't fill the world with enough interesting stuff, I would say odyssey is doing a better job than most but I'll be skipping a lot of the notice board stuff that just seems like time killing.
JDMStav I got tired of it after the last ezio installment
Dayvid Cayge!

More like Dayvid de Grutolla.
Dunno what all the hate is about. I appreciate the complexity of his games; your decisions actually change the narrative more than any Telltale game ever did.
I Trevelyan I I know it’s just, like, your opinion man but there’s already loads of criticism regarding his writing on CZcams. I would describe him as a man who’s given a loud speaker and shout incoherent words into it, thinking he’s saying something meaningful. The suspension of disbelief required to enjoy his work is beyond my ability perhaps but I don’t think there are many people failing to notice his awkward reference to the civil right movement in D:BH that draw parallel between African descend American with robots.
Sure, you're dreading Smash Bros Ultimate now, but just wait until Kingdom Hearts 3 drops and you're bombarded for the next three eternities with demands to review it.
"But Yahtzee! I love the terrible dialogue and garbage storytelling because blinky blinky flashy lights and Disney and anime characters!"
Soon followed by "yahtzee's just a professional troll" comments made by people who are butthurt that he doesn't like a game they like so they try to discredit him.

@@Inevitibility23 Jokes aside about the writing and story, Kingdom Hearts has always been optimal gameplay hype. Kingdom Hearts 3 looks like one of the best games ever made, just the pirates of the Caribbean world is a better pirate game than any other pirate game that's come out.
I really want to see him review Ace Combat 7, myself. Been playing Ace Combat 6 lately and I think it has aged pretty well for the most part.
Probably something more up his alley than KH3 will be, though if the story in AC7 is anything like the story in AC6, it's going to be melodramatic as hell.
John Dorian Ehh. I wouldn’t say that. Dude has a right to his opinion. His condescending tone wasn’t necessary but if he doesn’t like the game, he doesn’t like the game. Doesn’t hurt me any, still very excited for its release.

The best fallout that came out last year was a Tom cruise movie?
No, it was watching bethesda's PR moves after the release of 76, though mission impossible: fallout does get a close second.
No cuz that movie was terrible too.

So happy that Subnautica got the second best spot. It definitely deserved it what with all the work the developers put into it.
Agreed.
I saw Subnautica in the thumbnail and was dreading him not placing it high enough for most of the video.
Amen to that brother!
I needed something new to get me through lockdown that could run on a potato as my 960 GTX wasn't gonna run RDR2 or Mass Effect Legendary edition to any satisfactory degree. Remembering Subnautica got a good review from Yahtzee I took a punt on it and was hooked from the start. It was my first survival / crafting game so I was a bit clueless at the start but soon got into it. As soon as my first playthrough was done I immediately started again with food and water requirements on, I enjoyed it that much. I've also recently finished another playthrough of Below Zero, which is also great.
I might play it again, now...
@@WardyLion Aside from the land-based vehicle; that was a massive waste of space and unworthy of the game.

Guys I think Yahtzee doesn't like Smash Brothers Ultimate
I think it's more that it is the kind of same ol' same ol' game, with a very vocal and often aggressive fanbase.
Yahtzee isn't a fan of multiplayer games, so it comes as no surprise
He's not a fan of fighting games and multiplayers.

I’ll be real, I struggled to remember what came out this year due to a lot of it being on a system I don’t own or care to (PS4) and the fact I’ve been going through my backlog trying to finish as many of them as possible.

And Yahtzee usually does not rank games like others do with checkbox anyway
@@JameboHayabusa He never likes Fallout franchise as a whole so maybe being more bland than usual is kinda usual for Yahtzee
And its damn hard to compete with Metal Gear Survive if rated just on blandness maybe, even though he might give abit more positive review than most others will give considering its sinful birth
All my friends: "I'd like Subnautica better if it had co-op." Me, "You knobheads, that's the whole damn point of the game! Now excuse me, I'm going to play through it again because I enjoy the core gameplay loop to an irrational degree. By myself. All alone."
It's ironic how we people who love single-player games are often alone in our struggle
I love singleplayer games but survival games I feel are horrible if you're forced to play with random people, kinda bland when in singleplayer and ,unsurprisingly, really good with a group of friends in a private server. That being said though I do have alot of fun playing Project Zomboid solo even though I have no idea what I'm doing half the time.
Coincidentally there is a fairly well done coop mod released for it.
YES! THIS TIMES A MILLION!

Always a joy watching your videos Yahtzee
David Cage is like George Lucas. I like his ideas, but his writing is just trash.
I liked D:BH, but it's was so overly melodramatic it came off goofy instead of inspiring
George Lucas changed every aspect of the entertainment industry, from when the credits roll, to how special effects are done, all wrapped up in neo-myths that resonate with everyone.
David Cage popularized a style of gameplay that was adopted by one other studio who had one or two successes and then collapsed. He made quicktime events become half of every other game since then, while trying to be deep by asking questions science fiction authors answered 70 years ago.
Should have just been 10 hours of Connor
@@GreyWolfLeaderTW True, but I feel it must be pointed out that V and VI weren't directed by Lucas, and according to the behind the scenes material said other directors seemed to be more willing to allow ad libbing and dialogue changes from the actors than Lucas might have.
Also the super hammy misuse of civil rights, slavery, and holocaust analogies just made the game feel like it was both ignorant, misunderstanding, and insensitive towards every issue it was supposedly trying to talk about.
I like most of his games. Heavy Rain was great and Detroit was good.
I want Yahtzee to whisper me David Cage's name in his overly british accent everyday when i go to sleep.
That is ASMR in its purest form
Subnautica, getting into top 5 but still feels underrated for me. Amazing game
Waaay too much realistic poop in the video. I think I'm going to puke.

The first fart noise played as I was finishing up my first ever tiny bottle of eggnog and I must say it pretty much summed up my experience with the stuff.
awesome review Yahtz always look forward to people unbiased with good animators.
I'll always look back on the heaps of praise being tossed onto Detroit, and be moderately confused by it all.
It's David Cage's best game (not saying much) and showcased a few brights spots for this type of genre in the AAA market but it was by no means a game changer. But it was worth watching someone stream it just to see people react to the dialogue or try to screw up as much as possible
The funniest thing is, I consider myself to be a fan of DBH, and the entire time I was like "Too right, fuck david cage, he's an asshole, the game was shit". Mostly because the fans took one look at it, and said "You have no idea what you're doing, WE'RE gonna make stuff from it that we want since you have no fucking clue"
@@tygonmaster like it or not, metacritic is an easy place to see how well/poorly a piece of media has been received by Critics and fans, unless you know of a better way to look that up
Not quite praise. It's an overall shit game with the writing and QTEs but stuff like the visuals and the one story with Connor makes it likable and even impressive at times. It's just unfortunate enough to be saddled with terrible clumsy allegories to racism and David Cage's terrible dialogue writing

If I was Yahtzee, I wouldn’t even put Detroit as a bad game, because at least with Detroit it gave you everything the developers promised, & it’s an enjoyable game for anyone who has loved playing any of Telltale’s games. Fallout 76 or Sea of Thieves should’ve been in its place (How does Yahtzee mention 76 but not Sea of Thieves? Both fell into the same situation as No Man’s Sky at their launches!)
Also, I wouldn’t put AC Odyssey as bland because I actually had fun with that game. It took the best elements of Origins & Black Flag and put it in that game. I got it for more than half off on Black Friday and I thought that was a steal.

I rather like how the splash pages for each category have a theme going for them.
