      There are people who have never owned or been responsible for a dog, and then they adopt one and all of a sudden they are in over their heads, because they don't know how to train their dog or get a trainer. To think that you get a puppy, and that puppy is just going to be obedient is ridiculous.

      My husband and I just adopted two young pups (8 mos and 1 year) after losing our two amazing Saint Bernards within 6 months of each other. One pup has obviously been trained, the other, not so much. She’s wild, big, chews on everything, but she is the sweetest little girl and it’s obvious she wants to be good. We realized that she probably never got any training and had no idea how to be good. After two months she has improved so much. She’s so sweet and we are putting in the work to make her an amazing dog. 🐶
      Dogs just need love, training, and patience. I get angry at people who think dogs should just know how to behave without even trying to teach them.

    There is nothing wrong with Bean, there was something wrong with the people who just wanted a pet dog and expected it to be a pet rock that didn't need dedication and discipline. THAT IS WHAT WAS WRONG. This man that took Bean, wow he's so gorgeous but also has a giant heart. What a beautiful person inside and out! What a wonderful lovely story. So happy Bean has a loving family!

    • @anng.4542
      @anng.4542 Před 2 lety +17

      💯%, "pet rock", that's exactly the expectation! Often these are people who don't understand what dogs need. You have to be willing to reinforce good behavior, say "no" to your dog when necessary, provide the dog with structure and activities and outlets for all that puppy energy. Not everyone can, and not everyone understands their own limitations.

      Statements like this irritate me and beliefs such as your is why dogs get returned or sent to the pound so much. People have to understand that dogs have personalities and when your adopting you have to make sure they match before hand otherwise the dog and owner suffer. Doesn’t make anything wrong with anyone.

    • @Seaotters.and.smiles
      @Seaotters.and.smiles Před rokem +1

      @@biggchill8176 What actually irritates you is that we are calling people out like you. Adopting is NOT a light weight decision. If someone makes it out to be that way (which it seems that is your take on it) that is THEIR problem. Adopting a dog implies more care and training. It has to be taken into consideration before adopting that the dog can have behavior issues. If someone is not willing to live with that possibility they shouldn't adopt.
      It is clear that this dog only needed people who supported his wellbeing. Those other people did not.
      I give no fu^*(s if you are "irritated".)

What is going on with the Dodo "Oh we found a stressed out dog so changed homes, introduced new people, introduced CATS, hmm, this dog needs to be entertaining, let's film and keep filming". I am stunned at the lack of compassion and the need to make a video from a dog's distress. Let's put stability, routine, care for the dog and compassionate training first. It's not hard. I am doing it, so can you Dodo and adoptive family. No feel-goods and no good sense this dog is in good hands, quite frankly

      Not necessarily true... I worked in a shelter, so I was able to learn that I wasn't "a puppy person" without ever having to adopt one. I've just never had the patience or energy I guess. That doesn't mean I shouldn't have another dog. Because what I learned was that I absolutely LOVE the older dogs. 5yrs old is my FAVORITE age actually! But any doggo 5yrs or older are my "cup of tea" for sure! So, I get that it might seem like "who in the world can't train a puppy?" But we're out there, lol, and we just might love the older dogs is all! 😍

    Today I came home to find my 9 month old German Shepherd had destroyed one of my pillows and a paint roller. This isn't a first for him. Sure, I was unhappy, but never once did I think "Man, I'm tired of this dog, it's time to take him back to the breeder." No, my immediate thinking was "Okay, tomorrow, we're going to Petsmart and he's going to pick out some time consuming toys."
    I'll never understand how someone can just give up so easily on a dog they quote on quote "love" and see as "part of the family". In fact that's how I got my other dog, a Brittany Spaniel, at 9 weeks. A couple had him for a week, decided they didn't want to deal with puppy hood, and put him up for free on craigslist. Today, he's the most well behaved dog I've ever had, and is a trained, disciplined, hard working service dog for my PTSD. And I couldn't imagine life without him.
    Dogs aren't just disposable toys, they're are companions for life. Don't get a dog if you aren't prepared to go through thick and thin with them. Be there for them on their bad days, because they sure as Hell are eager to be by your side on yours.

    His story reminds me of my baby. I'd just started volunteering at a shelter and while we were going through the dog area during orientation, they showed us they had a deaf dog. I couldn't stop thinking about him. I found out he had been returned multiple times, the last time he'd gotten out of the backyard and hit by a car and broke his leg. The vet hospital said the owners didn't want him back so he was returned to the shelter. After his leg healed, he went back up for adoption. Every time I was there, I gave him treats (I was new and he was above my level so I couldn't walk him). A month later, I adopted him. He became my velcro dog, my other half, my therapy dog (at home). I had him for 13 yrs 11 1/2 months and I think about him every day. The employee did the paperwork & passed him on cried and the employees and volunteers who worked with him were happy he was adopted by someone who could give them updates on him.

      It gets overwhelming. I adopted a kitten a year ago and have found myself seriously considering if I should keep him. I already have a cat and dog that I got when then were both older. It's not like I didn't know what I was getting into, I knew it would be challenging, we had kittens when I was kid...how hard can it be?
      Dogs and cats are individuals and not necessarily a good fit for every owner. I KNOW he is just being a kitten, that they're playful, rambunctious, and get into things. But there would days when it was just one thing after another. At those worst moments I just couldn't take it any more. And let me tell you: I felt like an **shole. I don't want to be that person that gets rid of a pet. But I also felt bad for him, he deserved a home where he could run around like a maniac and not be in trouble all the time. Not to mention his presence was wrecking havoc on my other cat. I agonized over what to do. Once, near my breaking point, I even sent him to stay with my sister for a couple of days just so I could have a break. I considered finding him new home not out of anger or ignorance but from loving him to pieces and wanting what's best for him; and what's best for him may not be with me. I also worried about if he would find a loving home...or be cast from house to house or worse out on the streets if I re-homed him.

      When they came up to me one day and confronted me because they suspected I had a problem with them and the dog, (which i did ofc. Telling them yes, the incessant barking is a problem, but the real problem I have is *why* she is barking in the first place. Ie. No stimulation. No exercise. No training and isolation,) they angrily told me, "Well, I work full time and also since she's grown, she's too strong for me to walk her." ...You can imagine my face.. 🙄🤷‍♀️ 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
      She's spent the whole first year of her life stick out on a balcony, and then in a room, in her own. 💔💔

The first time we got her in the car for the dog park, the look on her face, she looked so sad like she thought we were taking her back. She was so happy when she saw the field. I love this story because the exact same thing happened to my dog Sherlock. He's a German Shorthair Pointer Lab mix and was taken from his mother at 4 weeks and put in a shelter, at 6 weeks adopted to a family with a 9 month old puppy, two days later they brought him back because he was too playful for their other dog. A day later he was adopted again to another couple with no animals in the home, 3 days later brought back because he demanded too much affection. ( I can't make this crap up) The day he was brought back the second time my husband and I were at the shelter, I heard him crying and barking and went right to him, took him out of his cage and he immediately laid his head on my shoulder and fell asleep. We had them sign the papers right then and there. 12 years later he's still with us and the best dog we could ever ask for. We love him so much and dread the day we will have to say goodbye. Please don't adopt unless you are 100% ready for the responsibilities.
