I was in that traffic it took me 6 hours to get to get to NY and I was in Norwalk already
What a "nightmare." I'm from that part of CT; my ex husband was from Norwalk, and I can't tell you how many times I got off Exit 14 or 15...LOL. I know that bridge overpass very well. And, I-95 is a "NIGHTMARE" on a "good day." I can imagine what these poor people are going through. ALL THE HIGHWAYS IN CT ARE A NIGHTMARE. Take I-84 through Hartford? Yeah right......that's a good one. I grew up in CT before it turned into a total "crap hole." True, a LOT of pretty homes still, etc. however, the ROADS CAN'T HANDLE ALL THE TRAFFIC. This is what happens when builders ""BUILD AND BUILD AND BUILD, AND MORE PEOPLE COME" WITH ZERO ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE IN PLACE. I just left Sarasota, FL for the same reason......too many people now.....crowded roads. Glad I left CT, though.
I felt your comment 😅 84 is an absolute nightmare. I used to travel, with some degree of frequency, from MA-PA... I'd take 90 to 87, & pick up 84 just past the Newburgh/Beacon Bridge in NY (& vice-versa), happily paying the ridiculous tolls, specifically to avoid 84 thru CT.
--& Hartford is 40 minutes from me, via 91!
91 can be it's own nightmare, especially between Windsor Locks/Bradley Airport & Hartford.
You're the wise 1 to have escaped! As you can see, you're not missing anything!!
✌& ❤ from the Northeast
@@ctaylor1393 Thanks for "reaching out." Fortunely, I didn't have to ride these roads "too often," as I got older, when I was still living in New England. Growing up, in the 60s and 70s, and even "early 80s" was okay, and I mostly travelled I-95 because I lived right off of I-95 in several different locations. But my ex husband, who was from the same part of town where this horrendous accident happened, and I moved to Maine back in 1988. By then, it was getting really bad. Over the next 20 years, we would go back to CT to visit "our folks" once a year, and I "DREADED IT." Sometimes we would take I-84 to Route 7 in Danbury, and go back roads rest of the way; other times we would take I-95 the whole way. I kid you not, it was like a "rollercoaster ride," which I HATE THOSE. Everyone just driving as fast as they can, bumper to bumper, and my ex LOVED to drive in the fast lane the ENTIRE WAY, and leave NO SPACE hardly between him and the car in front of us. He used to say, "you have to go with the flow of traffic. If everyone was driving 80, then you have to also, or your get swallowed up." Well, technically, I know he was right, but I used to be a "nervous wreck" the entire ride down, and dreaded the ride home until we got to Maine. Massachussett's roads aren't much better. Anyway, again....thanks for responding to my post. I'm glad I am retired now, and only go out once a week to the grocery story; take back roads, and don't ride the highway at all. People drive like lunatics now. I often wish we could go back to "horse and buggy"...LOL. Take care.
These freakin bridges can NEVER catch a break!!!
This happened in Bridgeport CT years ago they move fast to reopen the I95 give it three day it be opened.
It’s crazy to think twice in a yr one in Pa I95 an this one in Ct I95 just saying
So thankful this wasn't Tuesday when we went through there. Traffic was miserable enough already.
That bridge did better than I thought. I was almost sure it would collapse. Can see the girders are buckled now though.
amazing how this always happens near a bridge and there is always a tanker truck filled gas or oil involved and a nearby water way. It's just amazing isn't it?
Its crazy it looks like a scene out of a movie..i never seen i95 have to shut down sections because of damage from explosions/fire then all off a sudden ive seen it happen 3 times this past year
What a mess !
You have NO IDEA. I am from there, and I-95 through that part of CT has "ALWAYS BEEN A NIGHTMARE," even on a "good day." Bumper to bumper traffic with NO BREAKDOWN LANE right through that part of Norwalk. Just awful. My ex husband is from Norwalk, and I am from Darien. I know the roads there "very well." I moved to Florida. I don't miss CT at all.
Does this reporter know where the Connecticut River is? Hint: about 25 miles east of this crash
It's the Norwalk River, guy probably misspoke
Nope.... more like 65 miles east. Reporter is lclearly geographically challenged.
@@mandisaw No excuse for that.
@@jimgriffin9924 True
Merrits gonna be really be busy for a while
Am I the only person who wants to know WHO was driving the truck and what CAUSED THE crash???
I remember when I started in college- I lived in NY and went to school in Hartford-the main road was 95. Then the mianis river bridge collapsed. That xmas my g/f drove me home. We were stuck in traffic and when she asked why i said it was probably because of the bridge "We're going over that bridge?" her eyes got wide. "Don't worry" I said "It's the safest bridge in america right now consdiering how the rest of it has been inspected.
That was the bridge that collapsed when I was a kid. I will NEVER FORGET that. It was "BIG NEWS" when that happened. Crazy!!!
Thank god nobody is badly hurt. The rest can be fixed and replaced. We can’t replace a life.
You dumbbell you sound like a jackass
The Connecticut River is 30 to 40
miles to the east of Norwalk. But what do you expect from NYC tv? Given the number of insane drivers on CT highways one would expect this to be a more frequent occurrence.
But can fuel melt steel beams? 🤔
😢😢 gonna be a mess.
Must have been some fire... Gas ran into the Connecticut River in Norwalk?????!!!! The Connecticut River is over 60 miles east of Norwalk. Great reportng.... not!
there was a similar accident over 20 years ago it really destroyed the bridge and the state Governor asked for emergency from the white house and i believe it took 4 months to rebuild that small bridge Westchester County New York. Hey CT Governor make it happen.
I wonder if the trucker or auto driver were at fault?
I'm from there; born and raised. You know, it's hard to say anyway because that part of I-95 is such a "heavily travelled road," it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to do road repairs. It could have been "anything".....a bad bump in the road. There is no "shoulder" on the highway either from like Exit 12 to just past Exit 16 going northbound. ALWAYS a bad part of I-95.
I saw a news report that said the car caused the accide t
@@michellesmith9783 Thanks. I think I heard that, too, but "why?"" Have they said? And, who knows what the "official narrative" will be???
I'm going to guess it was the four wheeler.
Holy hell
Washington needs to get freaking.Police officers on the highway.I just saw a tanker unit doing ninety and then I see this post when i'm home
More than likely it was Biden's Uncle Boosie
This is bad

Sabotage.
NO!!! Aging infrastructure. Roads in CT are "very bad."
@@commonsenselucy5697 A truck fire is aging infrastructure? What are you thinking? Sabotage as I said..
@@trumpbidensameclub6668 Yeah well, you don't understand how "unsafe" the roads are. Something in the road could have caused a problem for any of those vehicles. Trust me; I KNOW. I don't think it was sabotage at all. Not this time. Just saying.....I LIVED THERE. Pot holes, stuff in the road sometimes....it could have been "anything."
@@commonsenselucy5697 I understand a little better and believe that your eyes are open. Forgive me. I love you. God bless you in Jesus name.
@@trumpbidensameclub6668 I think your initial/gut reaction has more merits.
While the "infrastructure" is in very serious question, & an "accident" occurring because of it, is quite believable.....
I'm believing your initial thoughts are far more warranted.
I don't believe in coincidences
The AT travels thru CT 😮
AT??? What does that stand for please?
@@commonsenselucy5697Appalachian trail I believe
@@warrenwerks I've answered this 2 times already, and keep accidentally losing what I wrote. Pretty sure the Appalachian Trail goes through New York State NOT CT. I could be wrong, but grew up there, and we were surrounded by Long Island Sound, NY State, and NYC where this accident took place.
@@warrenwerks Well, you are "correct," but that was north of where I grew up, and where this accident took place. Closer to Hartford area, which would be I-84.
Appalachian Trail
Trail Length: 56.6 miles.
Towns: Sherman, Kent, Sharon, Canaan, Salisbury.
Allowed Uses: Hiking Only.
@@commonsenselucy5697 I was just answering your question. I’ve hiked all of the AT in Ct and a lot of it in New York. I’m well aware that it doesn’t pass through this area

@@ekop1778 I grew up in that part of CT; born and raised. I now live in Florida "thank God." But when I was growing up.....late 70s, the bridge in Riverside, CT....just next to Greenwich actually "collapsed" while people were driving over it. Fortunately, it happened like in the wee hours of the morning, as I recall, so there wasn't much loss of life, but that darn bridge literally "fell into the water" below it. Some river or inlet from Long Island Sound. I'll NEVER FORGET THAT. CT roads are CRAP!!! Too many cars; it's impossible to keep up with road repair. Glad I left years ago.
@@commonsenselucy5697 I REMEMBER THE MYANIS BRIDGE COLLAPSE IN 1983 AND THE TOLL FIRE THAT KILLED PEOPLE

LAMONT IS A AHOLE
If only Peter, Paul & Mary &/or Bob Dylan were alive today.....
Maybe they'd ask "How many bridges must burn (crash) to the ground, before we know it's their Plan?"
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind.
The answer is blowing in the wind!
Why stop under the bridge? Go another 100-200 feet and the bridge gets toasty, not cooked.
Edit: I suppose the truck could have lost air pressure and the brakes locked. I don't see that happening unless the trailer was demolished up to and including the axles. I'd need a truck mechanic to chime in.
I'd guess the driver was more invested in getting out. Plus they'd probably started braking at the point of collision - under the bridge is just where the vehicle came to a stop.
Sabotage. People are incredibly ignorant. Like cattle.
@@mandisawLow IQ cattle just like you. Sorry you are good example for my comment.
I would be more concerned about getting out moron
