  • Clinton Fowler on Jett Lawrence's insane start to his 450 Supercross career and weather if he is on track to overcoming and beating Jeremy McGraths 72 wins in supercross.
My guest today is Clinton Fowler, the man behind the fantastic statistics that you hear each and every weekend on the Supercross broadcast as well as the fantastic online resource wewentfast.com and his own instagram @fowlerfacts. Clinton gave up his high-paying job at Microsoft developing the XBox to work in the action sports world with Red Bull and wound up developing the sports first detailed database almost on accident. I am a big storylines guy in the sport and no matter what story you throw Clintons way, he has a stat to either back it up or shoot you down. This was a highly enjoyable episode of the podcast with an extremely interesting and knowledgeable guy!
If you enjoyed the stats side of this show, you can sign up to wewentfast.com to get access to Fowlers great database and a ton of unique stories that I doubt you have ever heard!

If he races 450SX just from 20 years old to exactly 30 years old, he needs to average 7.2 wins per season. He at 7 wins in his rookie season with 2 rounds to go. Most riders peak in their late 20s, so it's safe to expect him to get more wins in future seasons. Really not unrealistic at all

Barring any injuries anyway. As a massive McGrath fan I would love to see Jett at minimum get close and truly hope he can break some of these records. As much as it kinda sucks if MC loses that record, its amazing to see someone has the potential.

Look at this year....The tracks this year are significantly less technical without the dragons back and less whoops and this has created most races to be single line races which causes the race to be mostly what it is in the first few turns. Look at how there's a much higher focus on qualifying position for gate pick. Didn't use to be so important because someone like Tomac could start in 19th and still win because the tracks really separated everyone.

Well, he actually didn't tick all the boxes at the time he was being asked to defend those statements. Statements that I'm sure the media made first. Then, forced him to defend. Either way, the box that hadn't been ticked was, according to Fowler, Jett had yet to win a single 450 Supercross main at the beginning of this series. How many 250 Supercross title winners have we had that never won a big bike main, let alone a championship? So, two 250 SX titles have never been a sure indicator of much of anything in the 450 class. Truth is, at that time, Jett was not at all on track to keep pace with Jeremy. And you guys made him look like a fool by simply mentioning his name with Jeremy's. And right now, he's still at least 60 win away. And you guys are here trying to say you were right? Come on, guys. There's so many more things going on in the sport than hypotheticals. I mean, today, Eli is still more likely to reach the 72 wins than Jett is. Let me know when Jett gets in the top 5 of all time, SX wins. Then, it might be time to speculate about becoming the King. Here's a fact for you guys...thirty years of Supercross before McGrath. And nearly twenty-five years after McGrath, no one is even close.

A huge hill to climb, sure, but if he races for exactly 10 seasons to retire at 30, he needs to average 7.2 wins per season. He's at 7 with two rounds left in his rookie season. Most riders peak in their late 20s.

@@BenWilson24 I know what I heard. And all your calculations add up to a guy that still needs 10X the wins that he has, to be two races short of being the king. Sure, it's possible Jett could get there. But history tells us his chances are very very slim. But my point was, Jett was set up by the media. They rationalized their speculations using the same math you tried to use. But they know as well as I do, that math rarely works in this sport. Especially when you add it all up before the rider takes the first gate drop of their rookie season. It will be years before Jett will even break into second place. When he does, he'll still need to win 25 more races. Jase is rooting for his countryman. I get that. Fowler is straight up full of sh&t, though. His type of rhetoric is one of the main reasons Jett has been getting booed by the fans. There is no combination or amount of words or calculations of, if this, than that, that will make Jett anything more than what Jett makes of himself.

You're surely not this stupid. 'Eli is more likely to reach 73 than Jett'. That is statistically and objectively incorrect. There is zero chance that Eli wins another 20-odd supercross races. There IS a small chance that Jett reaches 73. However, it's obviously still unlikely.

@@bmotomo421 I'm sorry they hurt you, but nobody is touting that it is certain to happen. Some are just saying it's on track, which we don't typically see. I'm curious where you heard what you claim you heard lol. Sure, I used similar math because it's a pretty simple forecast to draw up. Fowler also didn't say anything more than what I said - he's on track, but it's early. 7.2 wins on average is what he needs per season. You're throwing up that his current rate puts him low at 7, but it's like you don't know what an average is... he's as close as he can possibly be to on track. If he wins another this season, are you going to say it puts him at 80 wins? I wouldn't. There is an average he needs to maintain - that's all. The numbers can go above and below that from year to year. Just relax. I'm sorry the discussion makes you sad

Taking nothing away from Jett's skills he's had some luck. In 250 his rivals kept getting injured. J-Mart actually won more races than Jett Outdoors jcomparing the races where they were both at not counting the races J-Mart missed after getting hurt. Same thing indoors Austin Forkner kept getting injured one time Jett cause the injury by cross jumping after snagging a tough block. His other biggest rival being his brother but he felt comfortable racing next to him unlike J-Mart Austin & Dylan what cause Jett to ride over his head (something we really haven't seen on the 450 except for the One race Kenny raced him Outdoors last year)

Regarding Jett’s 72 comment. Clinton isn’t factoring in that the negativity about that comment isn’t the only reason Jets got some blowback. His Baby Gift to Ken. His , if I’d have wanted to take Webb, I could have but I was being nice. His pay per view fan club for the wealthy. His Rolls Royce, symbolic of, I’m the king. Then saying he’s coming after tbe king. There’s more, but you get the point, he appears to be on the egotistical side.
I get it. I was like that as a kid too. But Clinton, words are also “ data “. They can be used against you in court. Words add up and enough of them can tell a story.
His words also tell me he’s a good kid that’s got some maturing to go through.
