  • What To Avoid When Taking Amlodipine | Foods, Medications, Natural Supplements
Amlodipine (also known as Norvasc) is a calcium channel blocker used to reduce blood pressure and used to treat anginal chest pain. Amlodipine is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome p450 enzymes, including CYP3A4 enzyme, which can be inhibited or activated by certain foods, beverages, medications and natural supplements. In this lesson, we discuss things that should be avoided that can impact metabolism of amlodipine.

Grapefruit alone have 0 effects on blood pressure. Basically the issue is, when both grapefruit and amlodipine is in your system, they eventually get metabolized to get out of the body.
But the enzyme that does the metabolism has a better affinity with grapefruit and binds to grapefruit instead and leaves amlodipine in the body and thus elongating the effect of amlodipine which is to lower blood pressure.

A diuretic helps the body eliminate excess fluid, excreted by the kidneys, and is often prescribed in tandem with an antihypertensive med like Amlodipine. The Amlodipine causes your blood vessels to dilate to make blood flow more easily through them to reduce blood pressure. I presently take a diuretic & antihypertensive med, & now will start taking Amlodipine, in addition, to help lower my pressure to optimum levels.

how to reduce stomach bloating when taking amlodipine

This would have been more effective for me if you’d presented these things in two groups: those that increase the enzyme activity and those that decrease. And then a few words about THESE interactions. For example, could I eat grapefruit if I also drank some ginseng tea?
And you’re missing a bottom line recommendation of addressing the cause instead of the symptom, allowing you to get off all these so called medications.

Someone told me taking Amlodipine can cause kidney failure and dialysis. Is it true?

I have been taking 5mg Amlodipine for more than 25 years. No side effects on my kidney. I believe that kidney failure leads to dialysis. My point is that they are not two different ailments.

Most drugs have an effect on the kidneys as they have to filter them eventually. Have your medic request a blood test to keep an eye on the levels. Yes I take Amlodipine and need regular blood tests.

grapefruit actually isn't one, for amlodipine. you should read online, yourself. Amlodipine interacts with my anxiety medicine, buspar; and I should go back to doc - but just quit the buspar for now.
