- What To Avoid When Taking Amlodipine | Foods, Medications, Natural Supplements
Amlodipine (also known as Norvasc) is a calcium channel blocker used to reduce blood pressure and used to treat anginal chest pain. Amlodipine is metabolized in the liver by cytochrome p450 enzymes, including CYP3A4 enzyme, which can be inhibited or activated by certain foods, beverages, medications and natural supplements. In this lesson, we discuss things that should be avoided that can impact metabolism of amlodipine.

I have been taking 10 mg of Amlodipine for 20 years now. Can the green tea I drink with ginseng in it interact with my medication? I also drink lemonade. I have been swelling in my feet and legs for about 4 years now. I also have sciatica now. I am taking some fluid pills for the swelling. I still swell. I have to keep my legs elevated.
You might check and see if your Dr. can change to 5mg. 10mg caused my Mom's feet/legs swelled on 10mg. It stopped after going on 5mg.🙏🏾🌞🌻😇
I always had nasty head aches from the age of about 10. At the age of 40 went on Norvasc for big time B P . Funny side effect was I never had any head ache ever again and I am 78 yrs. old now. Cool eh
This was informative, thank you for sharing…

I have been taking Amlodipine for more than 25 years without any adverse effects.
Myself also. Nothing of note.
Me as well. 5mg.
It swelling in my Ankles that look like they bout to burst, I was told to take it at night. I take 5mg.
@@dorothywatts4973 am not sure if the time that you take it matters. I always take it in the morning. You may talk to your doctor just in case the swelling is not due to Amlodipine.
Are you sure?
I spoke with my cardiologist and we agreed that it was time for me to get off amlodipine since my BP is back to normal. I am about to do the same thing with a statin.
So it is quite possible to have one's blood pressure back to normal
But keep periodic check on your BP
@@DailyChristianlife Is it possible? But HBP they say is a lifetime condition.
@@veroniquendambo3242 I absolutely do not believe that having high blood pressure at one point in your life necessarily means that it will be that way the rest of your life. Food, exercise, other drugs etc all can impact your blood pressure
@@DailyChristianlife but not permanently normal. Better to still check the BP, maybe once a week just to be sure.

My physician just added Amlodipine 10mg daily to the hypertension meds I presently take. The Losartin 100mg and Chlorthalidone 25mg I presently take daily wasn't reducing my BP effectively. This presentation was extremely informative to help me understand how this medication works. I also have Reynaud's Syndrome, and I hope this medication will help alleviate this most annoying condition.
I’ve taken this for over 20 years with no problems
20years of medication is insane I'm not bashing u I'm just saying medication should cure not treat for.many years lord help us all
I’ve taken it for 3 months and have had nothing but problems
Great information, thank you so much!
Good talk
Thank you for this update God bless

Useful information, all amoladapin consumers should take serious note
Should be in the disclosure. Many people do not read these words of caution ! Pharma states it all. They do get ignored as people take blindly the meds, without reading the fine prints. Big mistake.
Well thank you for confirming I will nit take this medication! Appreciate the information 🙏
Awesome, thank you. I just started this medication today.
stop taking it immediately. its a frankenstein chemical that is not natural and will cause you nothing but hell
I read about not dandelion while taking amlodipine. Can you explain why. Dandelion has been such a great supplement for my body when it comes to fluid retention and pain. I’m on 5 mg of amlodopine since last October and I seem to be okay with the dandelion but is it interfering with something else? Does it increase amlodopine or decrease it? Thank you
I take Amlodipine for my Scleroderma with Reynaulds disease. So far it’s helped and I’ve felt fine
What do you think about taking Ashwagandha while taking amlodipine? Thanks for your video, its verry helpfull!
So, does amlodipine interact only with simvastatin and sildenafil? Or does it also interact with other statins and other ED drugs as well? Thank you for any information.
I Have Been Taking Telmasartin 40mg & Amlodipine 5mg more than 2 years.
I take that medicine too no side effects no problem with me .SID
Amlodipine for me causes constipation and interrupted sleep. Had little to no effect lowering my blood pressure.
Good for you, I am working on the same goal! 😊👍🏽😊👍🏽😊👍🏽
Watch out for gum problems, mine cost me 4000 to fix with lazer surgery.
I wonder if the grapefruit problem extends to related fruits. Blood orange juice can be processed to include the dividers which have that exact sharp grapefruit burn. I happen to be chugging a blood OJ stockpile which seems to be strongly lowering BP to the point I stopped amlo. BTW when they omit the bitter dividers in blood orange juice it is the most heavenly drink, reminiscent of sweet berries.
Grapefruit is to be avoided if you’re on a statins which are cholesterol medicines
Ask Dr.about lasarden.low side effects
Amolidpine called off of market
Just started taking this medicine yesterday. It came with a lot of side effects in it's paperwork. One scared me right away when it said you could have a heart attack when you start taking it. Took my first pill after a good meal so it wouldn't hit my system so hard.

I'm 59 and my nurse practitioner put me on 5mg of Amlodipine and 10mg of Simvastatin a few months ago; both to be taken at bedtime. However, I usually take them two or three hours before bedtime, and then an 81mg coated aspirin closer to bedtime. I can't say as that I've noticed any problems so far, but should I alter this routine in any way? Thanks.
The grapefruit restriction was onerous. We compromised on 1 per week on a day when I was t driving and I was able to skip the med on that day. Eventually we switched to a different med.
I asked a pharmacist about the grapefruit and was told its alright to eat. I also looked it up myself and it said the same thing.
You just have to eat it a certain amount of time after taking Amlodipine, not at the same time.🙏🏾🌞🌻😇
Don’t eat grape fruits please

After watching this from youtube last night , I seen my doctor today to change my amplodipine to something else because my ankle is swelling when the the weather is hot and when standing in the kitchen cooking for a long time and my legs swell. I am also taking cholesterol medication called atorvastatin so I went to the doctor and asked the doctor to replace it to something else . She changed it by adding higher dosage to my losartan medication.
How are you now
My father has been taking rosuvostatin 10 mg (night) and cilnidipine 10 mg(morning). Will it have any side effects?

Amlodipine regulates your heart beat which will directly normalize your your bp.side effects can be averted by reducing your dose if you feel dizziness.
It works the other way round according to all the information I have read by blocking the calcium channel receptors it improves blood flow. Improving blood flow increases oxygen to the lungs and stabilizes the demand thereby stabilising the heart rate.
Does it cause liver problems ?
I want to know this as well
@@hjcj2685 it did me. I am trying to get off it. I did get dr to reduce to 5mg today. I have been taking it way too long and now have nafld from it.

Hi. Recently, I've noticed edema and aching in my lower legs and feet, and it's impossible to stand more than 3-4hrs at a time. Although, I've consumed about a teaspoon of organic, lemon juice, in 8oz of distilled water, every morning after I take my 10mg of amlodipine, for several months w/o any reactions. Could lemon juice have the identical effect, as grapefruit juice???

Is it the terpenes in the grapefruit that causes the enzyme inhibition?
what's the difference between Amlodipine & Nifelat or Nefidapine
Please can l combine amlodipine and metformin?
I take both of these drugs every day
So why don’t you just take less amlodopine and drink grapefruit juice to get the same effect? Would it be cheaper and healthier?
The effect is mainly due to how grapefruit juice changes the metabolism - the same thing happens to other drugs!

Suuuure buddy, it's a good thing we have geniuses like you to tell us about how wrong we are for supporting a sovereign European country that is under attack from a imperialist neighbour!
🤡 📯
Grapefruit alone have 0 effects on blood pressure. Basically the issue is, when both grapefruit and amlodipine is in your system, they eventually get metabolized to get out of the body.
But the enzyme that does the metabolism has a better affinity with grapefruit and binds to grapefruit instead and leaves amlodipine in the body and thus elongating the effect of amlodipine which is to lower blood pressure.
@@mariepierrelouis4431 so it does effect blood pressure because it leaves the amlodopine in the blood. It just doesn’t effect it directly.

Magnesium Taurate is the natural way to lower blood pressure. Google it.
People with diabetes, intestinal disease, heart disease or kidney disease should not take magnesium before speaking with their health care provider. Overdose. Signs of a magnesium overdose can include nausea, diarrhea, low blood pressure, muscle weakness, and fatigue. At very high doses, magnesium can be fatal
Yeah, not very encouraging! I'll stick to the pill 👍
Amlodipine makes me feel like I have been poisoned. Runny nose and sinus congestion too. I cant take it.
Taking it 25yrs no problem
Please tell me what a water pill is and how it differs from Amlodipine
I would imagine any diuretic should be approved by Dr prior. I’m retired CNA
A diuretic helps the body eliminate excess fluid, excreted by the kidneys, and is often prescribed in tandem with an antihypertensive med like Amlodipine. The Amlodipine causes your blood vessels to dilate to make blood flow more easily through them to reduce blood pressure. I presently take a diuretic & antihypertensive med, & now will start taking Amlodipine, in addition, to help lower my pressure to optimum levels.
No wonder 🤔
how to reduce stomach bloating when taking amlodipine
This would have been more effective for me if you’d presented these things in two groups: those that increase the enzyme activity and those that decrease. And then a few words about THESE interactions. For example, could I eat grapefruit if I also drank some ginseng tea?
And you’re missing a bottom line recommendation of addressing the cause instead of the symptom, allowing you to get off all these so called medications.
Please share the Love of the Son of God. Please write His Words in your heart , and share them.
Someone told me taking Amlodipine can cause kidney failure and dialysis. Is it true?
I have been taking 5mg Amlodipine for more than 25 years. No side effects on my kidney. I believe that kidney failure leads to dialysis. My point is that they are not two different ailments.
Most drugs have an effect on the kidneys as they have to filter them eventually. Have your medic request a blood test to keep an eye on the levels. Yes I take Amlodipine and need regular blood tests.
