I think Superman's reaction to the effects of Kryptonite is so intense because not only is it it Kyrptonite, literal poison to him, but also he simply never feels pain or discomfort.....ever, so the feeling must be overwhelming. Imagine if you were 30 years old and never had a paper cut or stumped your toe or ever felt pain in any way. How do you think you'd react if after 30 years of never even knowing what pain was you accidentally cut yourself?

Thats so true, but I think that beating taught him a very valuable lesson in fighting, hence how he handled all 3 [ZoD & his team very well] in the fight in the city, if you watch that fight he was actually winning, but only ppl were getting hurt in the process, love the way he gave Non a beating underground [must have been a good uppercut] way he smashed him up & out of the ground & through the buildings & then my favorite Reeve moment ever' where he spins & throws ZoD into that Coke advert (the look on Supes face after he did it was just so perfect) its like "want some more you Bast$%*"!" [only Superman wouldn't swear lol

Then Supes must be a naturally good fighter, because all the Superhumans he's ever taken on have been with no hesitation or pause once they've hurt him. He even fought Doomsday TO THE DEATH. Do you know how much heart and courage that takes?

Only thing I didn’t like was Luthor’s logic that a meteorite would be deadly to Superman. One happens to arrive at the same time as he does and he deduces that they came from the same place AND it would be deadly to him. Based on what?

I'm not sure if he knew exactly what it would do to him. Maybe he thought it worked like poison and would just kill him slowly without him being able to do something. Because the logic of kyrptonite being Superman's poison. Just the touch could be in his veins kind of logic? We're not suppose to think or know how kyrptonite works just like Lex does in the movie. He probably doesn't know because he never read the comic books like us and this is the first contact with kyrptonite ever! So there's your reasoning for why he didn't know the effects of what it could do. In Superman Returns he knows what we know and just stabs the poor bastard.

The fact that Luthor, in this, seems like an armless friendly gruesome business man is what sells it. When it comes down to it, he's a heartless cold blooded sociopath. No second thoughts, only wealth and intellect. He's a real chess player. The fact that he can resume back to his regular goody side like nothing is going on, is scary. Lex is indeed a diseased maniac. Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor in Batman vs Superman Dawn Of Justice is a self entitled spoiled brat and too Riddler but he did succeed where Hackman's Lex failed. He killed Superman and he framed Superman for the terrorist attack in Washington D.C. and Nairomi, abducted his mother and girlfriend and nearly killed both of them, enclosed in the wheel chair of the legless survivor of Zod's attack a year with an IED prior when Superman was to speak to the senate and threatened Senator Finch as well, He was one sick puppy and uses his urine in jar and labels it Granny's Peach Tea and Granny's chocolate chip cookies with his fecal matter plus blackmailed Superman and Batman to fight each other to the death and tells Superman if he kills Batman his mother Martha Kent will live but if he flies away his mother dies and taunts Superman with photos of his terrified mother and says "Here we go, Here we go. And now God bends to my will. Now the cameras at your ship are waiting to see the holes in the holy. Yes the Almighty comes dirty when it counts! To save Martha, Bring me the head of the Bat." followed by him looking at the time clock and says "Mother Of God will you look at the time. When you came here you had an hour. Now it's less." Eisenberg's Lex is Lex's son Alexander but like I said Eisenberg's Lex is truly a psycho and worse than Hackman's and used his blood and Zod's remains to create Doomsday to kill Superman

It may look easy; but Christopher Reeve's series of facial expressions in this scene -- fearless and scornful of his enemy before he opens the box, utterly confused and baffled at his first experience of pain after he opens it, fearful (SUPERMAN fearful!) as Luthor approaches him, and he realizes how he's been ambushed, and then utterly exhausted and defeated as he collapses -- are a testament to how well Reeve acted this part. There are any number of handsome musclemen, in gyms and on sports teams around the country, who could have filled out the famous suit; Christopher Reeve is remembered so fondly as Superman because he created a CHARACTER that audiences loved. Rest in peace, Chris.

Writing the script or I should say "rewriting the script" because there was already a script for Superman in place, but Richard Donner dismissed it as pure garbage lol. Anyway it must have been a fun an interesting challenge to write this movie. For the kryptonite/pool sequence they must have worried about how Superman could possibly get himself out of that situation. There might be a version where Otis, who is tired of being bullied by Lex jumps in and saves him, sans kiss of course. Its almost biblical the way this played out though. Miss Tessmacher is shown to be weak, and she gives into temptation first saving him knowing Lex would kill her and then kissing him, much like Eve from the Bible. And, incidentally, Miss Tessmacher's first name is Eve.

Gene Hackman was a great Lex Luthor! I know Luthor is vile, but he clearly demonstrated how clever he was. Hiding kryptonite in lead. Superman is still mortal. He may not die like us, but he will perish with old age. He can be hurt with red sun, magical energies, and super strong adversaries. In the comic, Doomsday killed him. Darkseid hurt him with brute strength and omega beam, Metallo, the kryptonite battery, and so many other opponents. He just can not die by normal means. I always knew he was not indestructible.
