What a song! Let's drop your predictions now! Anything you expect will beat this masterpiece for number 1 on the TOP 10?
AC/DC- “Jailbreak” live at Donington will probably be close. The opening riff by Malcolm Young is so brutal!
Could maybe be Call of Ktulu, also by Metallica. Or my request YYZ by Rush
I think Equilibrium - Mana could beat it, but it isn't on your list :(
Easily it could beat it I think.
Can't predict which song but I predict that the song will be from the late 70's-late 80's. Sorry, prog metallers and djentheads - you aren't touching this kind of stuff, I don't care how many strings you put on it or how good your drummer is at tempo changes.
Sorry to disappoint but this does nothing for me. Never liked metallica and the only thing that makes this somewhat better or different is that Hetfield keeps his mouth shut 😓
Seeing you guys enjoying it so much is fun though 😄🤘
‘Make it louder’
Advice we can all live by!
2:39 Man thats a bass riff
@@demigod4171 nope.. its a bass solo :P \m/
@@W_I_C_H_E_R It's not a bass solo, bass solo is at the final
Ironic and iconic when she tells Chuck "turn it up LOUDER!" - yes, young Metal Grasshopper - Cliff Burton must be played at the highest level possible at all times.
11:20 - both mellow and heavy. That's what was missing in this band after Cliff passed. Not only was a he a monster rock bassist, he was also a great CLASSICAL musician, guitarist and composer. By far the most technically gifted musician this band ever has had (including Mustaine) but Cliff had what most technical players lack - ability to play with emotion and let the rest of the band breathe. So amazing to realize the influence he has had on music - metal and rock in particular - in what ended up being a very short time.
Also, if you see video of him playing live... Raw power. You'll never see James Hetfield or Kirk Hammett smile as much as they did when Cliff was on stage with them. I think he brought something very special to this band and fans of this band that superceded music... Like Darrell Abbott, the world is only learning just now what music is and will be without their influence.
@@neilpatrickhairless agreed!!
@@neilpatrickhairless But they will influence generations upon generations with limited sample sizes. It'll be 2189 and there will be a kid in a basement somewhere discovering Master for the first time and losing himself in the raw power then he'll look into the history of music and come across a man with curly hair, red beard and a black tooth grin. That day, metal will rise from whatever ashes it found itself in a century from now and they'll say "They were the most influential of any era"
The older you get is more you appreciate bass tones thick,....ha!
“Intro sounds like a organ with heavy distortion.” LOL. That’s Cliff on bass. Everywhere!
also the last solo right before the outro.
He is actually right,it's an Hammond organ with heavy distortion played through a Leslie speaker
Cliff does the intro, the first quick solo riff, and a final solo near the end
@@MitraiIIeuse Damage Inc. intro is also bass only in multiple tracks, you can compare the sound of lower layers.
DeathGrinder B not the last, but in between the first in second half and the last in second half
I think thats the first time I've ever heard Juliet say louder
Best instrumental song in metal world. RIP Cliff!
yeah, RIP Cliff... but ins't it a luck how good the following bass players were and are, Jason was a good one and also "Roberto" never sucks
@@dieweissehand - respect there! Cliff... I wonder how many people remember it. But yeah.. all about Cliff in this case!
OK you have to do Cliff Burtons anesthesia bass solo live next.
The REAL bass solo
In one take
@@Scootermcgruder Damn Straight!
BASS SOLO TAKE ONE
@@Scootermcgruder Actually, in six/seven takes, but James is saying that everything was done in one take!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a bass-player myself, I'm so happy to see this.
What do you think of this 13 years old girls bass intro? vimeo.com/309137588
Her two sisters ain't that bad either (16 and 18 when recorded).
Without even clicking on the link. I assume you're talking about Ale from The Warning
@@robertomurri1278 Yeah even if the sound isn't the best you can really dig her performance here: czcams.com/video/TtWHkBbDYeA/video.html
The official video don't show her as much but she deserves the attention.
RIP CLIFF , “ may the kingdom of salvation take me home “
Lol, when you said "that riff" and "those guitar harmonies", uh, both of those were Cliff soloing with distortion on his bass.
Was gonna comment this
It's technically a riff though...
@@kowxley1793 No, it's a solo, it is playing over the guitars maintaining the main riff. Even James called it a solo in an interview a while back, he said something like "That first bass solo in Orion, most people still think that's a guitar"
I called that bass part a riff... honestly sounds more to like a riff than a solo but semantics really. I love the sound of that bass solo/riff harmonizing with the guitars!
@@ChemicalReactions But in the end, after the clean section, that part where you complimented the harmonies are all bass overdubbed on top of itself.
8.26... That's actually Cliff playing that solo... Chills every time.. RIP big man.🤘🤘🤘
Never realized that. Thanks
That's also Cliff at 2:35
RIP Cliff Burton - a great treasure to our metal community world wide
Just the best!
@@ChemicalReactions Beg to differ, when it comes to bass players in rock/metal - no one touches Lemmy ;)
I can totally understand your feelings about this song
One of the best instrumentals i have ever heard
Long live Metallica. R.I.P. Cliff Burton legend.
I have a lot of memories wrapped up in this one. When I was 17-18, my friend and I used to lie on the hood of his car (like Wayne and Garth at the end of the runway), with this playing on the stereo, and lose ourselves in the starry night sky. Coincidentally, the car in question was a Ford Orion. From the sublime to the ridiculous; another friend insisted it was called "Onion", and would dismiss any evidence to the contrary as misprint. As long as I knew him, he never backed down. I once asked him why they would call such a masterpiece "Onion". His ready and condescending reply was "Because of the layers, man!... Anyway, there's no such thing as an Orion." Sigh...
Nice story! And glad to see you back in the comments!
"Because of the layers"! Yes! 😂
Hopefully The Call if Ktulu will be in this series
And Cliff's Anesthesia live in '83
As well as To Live Is To Die
For our top 10 series, we decided to keep any individual artist to two songs max to ensure diversity.
@@ChemicalReactions alright I just looked and I'm excited to see this series now!
Call of Ktulu is so goood...even more when you know Lovecraft’s story.
If so, then the second Metallica song has to be Cliff Burtons bass solo, anesthetiser live from 83.
So its only gonna be one of call of ktulu or to live is to die? That makes me sad
It's a stunning work of pure metal flavoured art.melts you're face but gently
“but it’s a 100” Hahahhahahhahaha! I totally agree Chuck 🤘🏽
C.O.D.💀 OG
Make it LOUDER!!!!!!!!!!
The intro is actually Cliff's bass in fuzz effect slowly fades in.
The Riff in 2:34 and solo in 8:27 are Cliff's bass as well, played in harmony. 😊
Good to see a father sharing something close to his heart, like this fresh ass metallica song with his daughter. And nice to see her at least pay attention to the freshness. This is a dope ass song. I know I get choked up and teary eyed listening to it. Hope she appreciates the song and cherishes these moments with her father. A lot of times parents and their children don't get along like that, that's usually the parents fault. this guy seems like he's probably a stand-up father.
Good job dad salute!
CLIFF BURTON IS THE JIMI HENDRIX OF THE BASS PLAYERS
Cliff Burton on bass, Jimi on guitar and Keith Moon on drums. Oh yes.
“Make it louder” is the call of refined metal taste. Especially with one of the greatest instrumentals ever composed. 🤟
When you said “those guitar harmonies” on that solo, that was all Cliff brother. That was the bass!
I voted for Orion but another great instrumental by Metallica is Suicide and Redemption off of the Death Magnetic album.
This might be the best Metallica song ever... !
Heh heh. When the Padawan cries for "Louder!", the Master must obey!
And he did once he understood!
@@ChemicalReactions .....and the music became louder, the people rejoiced and there was much happiness.
Vin & Sori can wait.
LOL!
I second that.
Ouch.
I gave up on thse two. Too much boneheaded wrongness.
Even when it's Pain Of Salvation ?
Metallica - Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) Live Chicago 1983 / To Live is to Die.
Orion is pretty awesome, but I think To Live Is To Die is their best instrumental.
Same
Both by Cliff Burton...
Thank You Guy's! I was Blessed to see Cliff one time in Pihtipudas 1986. Couple moths before that sad sad day. Metallica has and will be the Biggest one for me! I Salute You Two! Made my day! ❤.
I wanted to go to their concert in Switzerland. This would have been my first metal concert ever. But sadly they visited Sweden first :-(
One of the saddest day, in my metal history too!😯
I feel your struggle man trying to play every air instrument know to man with Orion. I settle for clapping on my stomach fat.
I bang my head until my jowls bounce. 😂
I've seen Metallica twice. 2017 & 2019. They still sound really good live and are still the best live atmosphere I've been in
I'm 16 and glad both my parents raised me from everything to Metallica, Anthrax, Maiden, Queensryche, Megadeth, etc
I lovee her description of how she could picture herself listening to it. It earned the right to blast through her earbuds in the car. Translates in my generation's language as a song that is roadtrip worthy! For instrumentals, introduce her to Metallica's Call of Ktulu if you haven't already.
Death - Cosmic Sea.
If I can give one piece of feedback...
You’re clearly a fan of the song (which is amazing). When you paused at the start of the base solo and explain that it’s going into a slow spot you take away the surprise of hearing that for the first time. Most people hearing the song really don’t expect it...so it’s fun to see how they respond to that.
So that’s just my little suggestion. Be careful not to spoil surprises you know are coming up.
Love the channel and it’s awesome seeing a family bonding this way. Rock on! 🤘
I love this song so much ... it's so pure ...
I'm not even joking when I say I want this song played at my funeral.
I can honestly say that the day I bought Master of puppets changed my life. A bit of context is required...I was only 14 at the time. Still want this song played at my funeral. Or at the very least my Wake.
Loved the emotion during the song! I was air drumming the varnish off my table🤘
Yes the fading in intro is actually Cliff on bass, just with heavy distortion. Love it. Such a great song, got to hear it live a month ago in Arlington, TX when they played their 2 shows
I think the bass intro to "Orion" is done on bass guitar as well, just lots of effects and cleaned up to create that "cosmic sound"
You're right! Very heavy distortion, along with sustain, and other effects. He uses 3 power chords to achieve the sound.
What a great piece. Cliff was phenomenal.
The version Metallica did at the end of the their movie Through the Never was also really good. You should check it out.
Chuck's on FIRE !!! ;-). Keep the faith Juliette...:-) !!!
In this song, there’s a little bass solo, right next to a little guitar solo, but no one will know it’s a bass solo, but it is.
~Cliff Burton.
She said "LOUDER" dad! Yes! Turn it up! 😁
You sir is a really Lucky dad to have this beautiful daughter beside you and listen to metal. When my daughter is that Age i really Hope she dig it too.
In the words of Joni Mitchell, "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone". I remember when I heard about Cliff's death. I'd just gone to college, fallen in with a bunch of older metalheads, and one day one of them was distraught from hearing the news. I didn't appreciate at the time we'd lost one of the all time natural metal bass players. Given more time he'd have been up there with Lemmy. You only have to watch some of their live videos, the "Day on the Green" in particular to see he was a force of nature, played that bass with no regard for the rules whatsoever. I remember one of our College "Rock Soc" evenings when I persuaded the DJ to play Orion. I was the only one on the dance floor to begin with but people soon caught on.
Sadly missed. \m/
Here y'go Chuck ...
czcams.com/video/qdlQyNe_9tE/video.html
Steve Jeffery i had basically turned 6 when Cliff died. I would listen to and record any Metallica song i heard with my crappy "stereo" since i was about 5 and I turned SO many people into at least Metallica fans with albums up to "The Black Album" (more recent as well) and older concert vids.
Cliff would have been a borderline or an actual Bass God. But, he made an impact and is still remembered. and not just remembered, but remembered fondly by all he knew, met and influenced.
Check out more Dream Theater Songs, from the Live At Budokan Concert for example. My favourite Concert Blu Ray!
Hard to imagine anything topping Orion. Something no probably suggested would be Cannibal Corpse - From Skin to Liquid. Great song from Gallery of Suicide and the only instrumental of their 30+ year career.
Metallica - My Friend Of Misery
Juliet's looking like she's working on her metal "Stank Face". We're going to make a metalhead out of her yet!
Master of Puppets starts off hard with Battery then keeps going through 5 more songs until it hits Orion with its incredibly mellow bass solo. Orion is just such a pallet cleanser after all the hard charging music that proceeds it that I've always wondered what Puppets would have been like had it ended with Orion instead of Damage, Inc?
Timeless Classic means it's appreciated through any generation.
RIP Cliff Burton 🤘🏾🔥 fucking legend
Nobody could play bass solos and licks like Cliff Burton, RIP, he's giving God Bass Lessons right now
Love Orion! First song I ever learned to play on bass. If you're doing a series on instrumentals, I suggest Iron Maiden. There are three I by them I can think of-Transylvania, Genghis Khan and Losfer Words (there is a forth one-Ides of March, but its short and is basically just a intro to Wrathchild) If you choose Transylvania make sure it's a live version (Live at the Rainbow 1981 is probably the best). It's from their debut album which was very poorly produced.
Transylvania is on the list!
@@ChemicalReactions Right on! Just make sure it's a version, the album version sounds terrible.
lol she says "louder, louder" he's jamming his ass off and says "yeah,uh huh, yeah,uh huh" like he heard her. Epic song
RIP CLB 🤘😢
08:27 is Cliff Burtons solo. Most people think it's guitar, but it's all Cliff!
By bass solo, I guess Anesthesia is the best for me
Hard to deny
This is wayy late but. Cliff named the song ORION because of the constellation 🌌…. this IS CLASSICAL we just got it ahead of the CURVE so to speak Sir. 🤘🏻💯🔥😊😉
Caught Somewhere in Time by Iron Maiden 🤘🤘🤟🤘🤟🤘🤘🤟🤟🤘🤘🤟
You CAN’T have a top 10 instrumentals without:
‘Soothsayer’ by Buckethead
Please please react :)
Yep, it's on our list! You can find it in the description.
Cliifffff what a legend
To Live Is To Die needs to be the next one! also Liquid Tension Experiment has a lot of epic instrumentals: Paradigm Shift, Freedom of Speech, Universal Mind, Acid Rain, Another Dimension, When The Water Breaks
What instrument is this guy "air" -playing? Guitar, Drums, Conductors Baton?
Love this one definitely one of my all time favorite instrumentals
Just because I've listened to it a lot recently, I'd probably vote for *Toska - Prayermonger* (while not on your list). It's certainly in my top spot of instrumentals at the moment. It remains to be seen if it can stand the test of rime. Toska is an instrumental band that is not nearly well-known enough. There's a superb live version of the song from this year's download festival on youtube.
a lot of time without checking this channel, until now
You’ll love this song!! It’s really really nice!! Cliff burton did an outstanding outstanding job
School of Metal Education is paying off. "Louder! Make it louder!"
Atleast 1 teen in safe hands. Metal On.
everyone must love metal
A saw that you picked Buckethead Soothsayer (thank you for that BTW) Just make sure you watch a live version of it 😊
Edit: If you thought about reacting to Dream Theater - False awakening suite it was supposed to be 'Illumination Theory'. My apologies. But Dance of eternity is a great pick too 😉
I just love it when she gets into it. It's truly a beautiful thing \m/
If you want a really subtle, but super-atmospheric instrumental, you should check out "Thirteen" by Mushroomhead.
You should do Suicidal Tendencies "How will I laugh tomorrow when I cant even smile today" or "Nobody hears"...both great songs.
HITMIX HYEPOCK “INSTITUTION!!!!” “CYCO VISION!!!” “THEY’RE FUCKING WITH ME SUBLIMINALLY!!! “FREEDUMB!!!” “Cause I was born to be S-T!!!!”
Hi you guys have to do Call of Ktulu and To Live is to Die both are masterpieces in my mind along with this one off course
The Call of Ktulu is on the list!
Good stuff. As Juliette said “make it louder” excellent advice. Also have to agree with you on the Queen reaction I love the ‘80s also. Keep up the fun reviews and keep rocking. Be well
Little did Chuck know that he was guitar strumming along to a Bass solo 2:32
This song was one of the first ones I learned to play on guitar! I was actually air guitaring the guitar part under the bass!
ChemicalReactions! All good, a lot of people don’t realize that the lead part there is in fact the bass. RIP Cliff
What I have always appreciated from Metallica is simply they love playing,The length of songs that they play reminds me of the bands from the 60's and70's.they wrote songs that weren't always made to fit a three minute radio limit.the songs are more well rounded. Memorable for many, loved by even more.
Lyrics by Dave Mustane
Solid lyrical job Dave!

Jonas Turklbach for sure!
Orion is a masterpiece for sure

2nd guitar solo:Hetfield. 4th solo/bass:Burton.
maybe its just me.. but I think you can be a distraction from the song sometimes. I know youre getting into it and that's cool, but Jules being a first time listener to it should feel the timing and such for herself and not be told every time there is a switch in the tempo. This song in particular is a journey that is meant to be felt in ones own soul. Different emotions and such are felt by the individual. Being told oh here comes a transition kinda takes away from that, and the moving around can kinda be a interruption as well. Love the fact you love the song ( we all do) love your channel, luv u and the fact that the fam get into all this. I could be way off base here and she is able to tune you out but if not think about it. Anyway this is just my opinion and they are like a**holes everyones got one, so feel free to ignore this..lol. But as always keep up the great reactions.
Usually try to be more mellow... unless I can't help myself...
CLIFF 'EM ALL!
Best metal song ever made , imo
One of my favourite Instrumental Songs!!!!
Yes sir!

did juliette win a bet or something ? (she is rocking her dad sennheiser hd 650)
No! The Beats needed to charge and I was closer to the laptop!
@@ChemicalReactions Also thinking that's where the "turn it up" comes from, as impedance on the beats is lowers, so they are naturally louder, so it's was lower volume than usual for Juliette :)
