I thought the San Jose fans were disrespectful of the years, the blood, sweat and tears Tavares gave the organization. Marleau had a much greater reception in San Jose when he first returned. "WE DON'T NEED YOU!" Then why are you so angry? Take a queue from San Jose fans. Appreciate all he gave you, say thanks, and move forward.
"Every NHL team has a fan base of thousands of fans". *Laughs in Coyotes*. To be fair, I struggle to find another Ducks fan in Southern California, so I shouldn't be the one talking.
i would agree with everything you said about the islanders if john tavares had been honest. we heard 2 years of “i’m going to stay” and then he left. if he had left any room for doubt, we wouldn’t care. that’s it. end of story.
I watched the game yesterday for the joy of watching hockey games. I'm an Islanders fan and I'm not mad at all about Tavares going to Toronto. Heck, I still like him. By the way, I also like the Leafs. Hockey is about having fun and everyone should see it like that. I hope you guys have success in the playoffs :)
Those Islander fans were awesome.I wanted Leafs to meet Boston in the playoff's first but now after watching that Islander game ,wow that would be the series to watch and maybe even fire up Leafs fans .
Take heart all you Leaf fans...one thing you can count on, no matter how good the team is, no matter how bad the team is, no matter how poor the effort, one thing will never ever change...ticket prices for next season will go up. It's not much to hold onto but after 50 years of impersonating an NHL franchise, you gotta take what you can get.
I've been a Leafs fan for 38 years and perhaps I've become a much more jaded realist lately however if you thought this current team we have was going to win a cup might I suggest a hot towel to give your head a wipe down after it's been lodged in your own ass for so long. We knew going into this year that the back end was our weakness. Still is and still will be for the remainder of the year. At the end of the day the process of making this good team a great team has not yet been completed. Oh and I am still IN. I'm so far in that if my Leaf fandom was a vagina I would be be balls deep. Sure 4 inches ain't much but it's all I've got. Oh and Isles fans, I hope this was some final closure to this perceived slight. I'm glad you got it out of system and now you can focus on the amazing team you have this year. Enjoy it and quit wallowing in the past. It does no good for anyone.
@@chrisfoster8728 It feels good to laugh doesn't it? Especially after that game last night. The sun came up today, jokes are still funny, life goes on. Onwards and upwards.
I’m curious, I’m a pens fan from the uk I picked the pens in 09 just cos they won the first ever game I watched ik I have very little right to watch them but is it that bad?
No. I became a fan of them in the same year because I decided to cheer for them in the playoffs and they actually won so they became my team and I'm from Toronto. It wasn't because of who was on the team since I was so young I didn't know who Crosby even was. I just like penguins lol. Cheer for whatever team you like
Everyone has a right to watch whoever they want. Steve has a problem with bandwagon hockey fans in Ontario who pick a new team everytime a stanley cup final happens
The Isles' fans need to bring that to playoffs, nay, every game. That was hair raising intensity from the fans. As a leafs fan, I'm envious of that level of intensity from the seats. The whole organization and fans were on fire. Good showing by the Isles. The playoff series will be great if we meet.
Tavares gave them 9 years, in which they did nothing with him. Did not build a strong team around him at all. The only reason Snow wasn't fired earlier was because Chia gifted him half their top 6. JT did not ask for a trade when they were bad. He did his part, fulfilled his end of the contract. Snow gambled and lost and it took JT leaving for ownership to finally clean up the front office.... because the 9 years of mediocrity wasn't a clue. He owed the franchise nothing, the fans should realize that and at least muster a round of applause acknowledging his dedication. At the end of the day the only person that looks out for you is yourself.
@@robertdigirolamo6218 Well, he could've asked for a trade, instead of leaving like a snake. Plus the islanders now have a strong team, aka one that'll make the playoffs. Don't blame him for leaving, just how it happened that pisses isles fans
@@yeetz3508 Nothing he did warrants the name snake. He doesn't owe the team his life. If he wasn't going to sign then it was up to the GM to get his list (if he had a NTC), Garth didn't. Hard to feel bad for the "fans" if they are that petty. He was the face of that franchise for close to 10 years, dragged them from the brinks of obscurity and still gets the hate. The difference between a pat on the back and a kick in the ass is 18 inches. Teams trade players after saying they won't. Enough of the victim card, anyone with half a brain should have been expecting it. You want him to give you more of his prime when you did nothing with 9 he already gave you?
@@robertdigirolamo6218 You're making it seem like they murdered his family and treated him like shit, which wasn't the case. JT made it seem like he was gonna stay, ala stamkos, not like FA that say they'll probably leave (panarin/bobvrosky). This is the NHL, not the NBA, players are usually really loyal to their teams, the whole Pyjama made it seem like he made up his mind wayyy earlier. Fans are totally right to be upset.
Leafs are 4-14 against teams with better goals against than them. Isles, Bruins, Blues, Preds, even Arizona, all play better team defense than the Leafs. Leafs have a losing record against all of them. Is it possible to fix this problem, this season, this playoffs? I doubt it.
That's a misleading stat, you have to take into account when those games were played and the sample size for GA on those dates. Also take into account injuries.
Steve you handled this way better than I thought you would, I guess we are going to have to wait for a 6-1 loss to Boston in the playoffs on a Saturday in Toronto for another epic meltdown at this point.
Isles fan here. I was fully expecting to watch this and completely lose my cool but it was a great video. You pretty much nailed it for both sides of the argument. I'm happy that intelligent, rational thinking leafs fans exist. You understand our frustration. Both isles and leafs fans can learn from this video. See you April 1st.
Fun video as always, even if a bit muted. Two things for the uninformed Leaf masses: 1. Can we stop saying that the Isles fans threw jerseys?? It was one jersey, after warmpus, that was thrown over Tavares's head, not at him in any way. 2. STOP comparing Sundin to Tavares. They are completely different. Sundin had a no-trade clause.....Tavares asked specifically not to be traded.....after saying he wanted to spend his whole career as an Islander. He was a first overall pick, face of a franchise, who begged not to be traded (because he didn't want to uproot his life most likely), and the Isles lost him for absolutely nothing. Plus....he is younger than Sundin was at the time! This is to say nothing of the fact that he says he didn't make up his mind until the last minute...I call BS on that one. When he signed with the Leafs, he said that he was finally fulfilling his childhood dream. If it was his childhood dream in July, it was his childhood dream in February. He wanted to go to Toronto after he was done in NY, and that's that. He just didn't want to have a stopover in between and that is both selfish and sucky. He deserved each and every one of those boos and chants.....and they were loud and plentiful....you couldn't even hear the tribute video!
Ok I have heard this all yet about him saying don't trade me and if he only let us know. First what was said was snow told him he would not trade him last year. Second so let say last year when the islanders where 2 points back of a playoff spot tavares came out on TV and said I hate the management I hate the team and I want out trade me. Your telling me everyone would have been cool with him leaving everyone would have said what a stand up guy he is. The fans would have lost there minds. Worse then last night.
Excellent once again, Isles fan here, don't throw stuff on ice or at players ever, but on the whole the crowd was great, look for the singing of the anthems, very classy.
The Sundin issue is different in my opinion. He easily could of allowed the Leafs to trade him to a contender instead of finishing out his contract and then joining a contender anyway. He would of had 2 chances to win a cup instead of just one and he would of helped out the team that made him. Win Win right? Remember unlike John, Matts wasn't going to re-sign regardless.
As an Islanders fan, I agree with 95% of what Steve said. Snow had MANY chances to sign Tavares before and during the season. What he failed to mention was that he told the Islanders before the deadline, "Please, don't trade me" hence the chant. When your star player in his contract year says don't trade me, every expectation is he's coming back. Never knew about that stuff with his agent though. The jersey burning was ridiculous and throwing stuff at him should have gotten those people banned. Sorry to the guy who had to leave because of the drunken idiots. That building was jumpin' last night and the only thing I could thing was, "Imagine if this game was in October or November."
Let me as an Islanders fan weigh in on this... We are not mad at JT for leaving the team, he had every right too. We are mad at the way he left. JT said multiple times that he was going to resign with us, he even asked our former GM Garth Snow to not be traded at the trade deadline just to walk away to his home town team that he rooted for growing up, essentially handicapping them since we did not get any assets back for the caliper player he is. Keep in mind that we offered him more money and contract years than Toronto.
When Trotz came back AFTER winning the cup, and returned to Washington, the fans, the organization, and the benches gave him a very warm welcome home. It's sad that people can't have a little more class for former teammates. Pay attention NHL, as a Capitals fan, were more than happy to be the class act of the leauge.
To be honest as the Islanders fan I am obviously disappointed he left but full respect to the guy and to the Leafs fan. Sad to see the throwing of stuff but I don't really think the booing is too bad. Anyways good game Leafs
I'm a islander fan and love your videos, when john left I was hear nor their about it, but man do I wish I had tickets to last nights game I know everyone that's not a fan of the team thinks that the coliseum is shit and maybe it is but it's just awesome and glad that your fans had a good time and sorry that they had a bad experience with to fans but just to drunk losers that don't represent are fans, it was just a big win when we have done as bad as we have in the past couple of years then the guy who everyone thinks carried are team comes back home and we blow them out plus we need too points and every top points we can get to stay ahead of the caps, keep up the good work👍🏻
honestly.. watching that game was a lot of fun because the fans went nuts. I'm not saying calling other a**holes is the right thing to do.. but come on, that was entertaining! They will rematch once again in long Island before the end of the season, who isn't looking forward that next game?
I don't think it was just a few Islanders fans going overboard during the game. It wasn't everyone, but half the arena was chanting "Asshole" throughout the entire game. The only cheers during the first period tribute were the ones playing in the tribute video itself. The reaction to Sundin coming back to the ACC after leaving for Vancouver wasn't anywhere close to what happened to Tavares in the game last night. In fact, it was a pretty warm welcome if I remember correctly. Marleau got a warm welcome when he played back in San Jose. I don't remember anything quite like the reaction last night in my 30 years of watching NHL hockey. The Islanders fans embarrassed themselves, and gave the rest of the decent Isle's fans a bad rep.
I just stumbled on this. As an Isles fan, I don't think Steve said anything here that's too inaccurate in regards to our fanbase or the Tavares situation. The only thing I'd like to point out is that Tavares requested not to be traded at the deadline in 2018 even though it was apparent that the Isles weren't making the playoffs at that point.
Steve, what do you know about Mason Marchment? He would add some toughness, grit and plays heavy, could be a useful player over a guy like Tyler Ennis or Trevor Moore.Maybe in your next video you can bring it up?

I thought the San Jose fans were disrespectful of the years, the blood, sweat and tears Tavares gave the organization. Marleau had a much greater reception in San Jose when he first returned. "WE DON'T NEED YOU!" Then why are you so angry? Take a queue from San Jose fans. Appreciate all he gave you, say thanks, and move forward.
How old was Marleau when he left SJ and how old was JT?
Random Question: Does anyone know how long Calle Rosen is expected to be out with his foot injury?
"Every NHL team has a fan base of thousands of fans". *Laughs in Coyotes*.
To be fair, I struggle to find another Ducks fan in Southern California, so I shouldn't be the one talking.
Sun Praising at least there’s another team across town, the coyotes don’t have an excuse
THE KID WHO WON THE CALDER!!!!
I'm an Islander fan, I'm also happy that this game is behind us
i would agree with everything you said about the islanders if john tavares had been honest. we heard 2 years of “i’m going to stay” and then he left. if he had left any room for doubt, we wouldn’t care. that’s it. end of story.
Do you think Babcock has finally learned that when you put Matt Martin in the line-up you actually win?
I watched the game yesterday for the joy of watching hockey games. I'm an Islanders fan and I'm not mad at all about Tavares going to Toronto. Heck, I still like him. By the way, I also like the Leafs. Hockey is about having fun and everyone should see it like that. I hope you guys have success in the playoffs :)
I remember watching Steve’s first vid of the season. Now there’s like a month left of the season. Time goes fasssst😂
After that game I honestly felt dirty...and not in the good way
Toronto Maple Leafs #1 ik
Its cause you're a dirty leaf fan
I was there and I can say the same thing
@@chrislopez44 [Steve Dangle screaming voice] John Tavares is a Leaf!!!!!!

The speech about the price of a Cup is blue-collar epic.
"If my fandom was a vagina I'd be balls deep" bahahaha best comment ever
@@chrisfoster8728 It feels good to laugh doesn't it? Especially after that game last night. The sun came up today, jokes are still funny, life goes on. Onwards and upwards.
Steve: "Hockey is fun, don't be a jerk!

This made me lol
Gards Guards lol
Perfectly description well said Steve!!!
Steve used to work at the Toronto Zoo? Wow. I did not know that. What did he do? I want a Dangle-cast episode about Steve's experience at the zoo.
I think Sparks needed to sit in the AHL for an extra year or two to help him develop a bit more. I think he'll bounce back sooner or later
Whats that agent website you found?
Great vid
this was 1997 WWF attitude era crowdsmanship. epicccc
I love the outro statement Steve. Hockey should always be for having fun and not to act dumb or stupid, like a jerk.
Does anyone have a link to the Pat Brisson report where he allegedly told Tavares to negotiate with other teams?
I’m curious, I’m a pens fan from the uk I picked the pens in 09 just cos they won the first ever game I watched ik I have very little right to watch them but is it that bad?
Steve was more talking about the "fans" who stop cheering for a team because they start losing. As long as you are loyal to your team, you're fine.
You have every right to watch whoever you want. As long as you stay loyal to them.
The Isles' fans need to bring that to playoffs, nay, every game. That was hair raising intensity from the fans. As a leafs fan, I'm envious of that level of intensity from the seats. The whole organization and fans were on fire. Good showing by the Isles. The playoff series will be great if we meet.
I'm not sure my old ticker could take a game 7.
The Leafs fanbase has jerks.
The Isles fanbase has jerks.
The Hurricanes fanbase loves a bunch of jerks.
I’m an isles fan but enjoyed the video. A lot of great insight.
Call it what you want, this game is going to define a rivalry
Isles fan here. Well done.
Sundin was at the end of his career, Tavares was at his prime... wayyy different
The Canadian Dude I’ve been saying this. Thank you
@@robertdigirolamo6218 You're making it seem like they murdered his family and treated him like shit, which wasn't the case.
@@moriellymoproblems7842 excuses excuses excuses
Steve you handled this way better than I thought you would, I guess we are going to have to wait for a 6-1 loss to Boston in the playoffs on a Saturday in Toronto for another epic meltdown at this point.
Isles fan here. I was fully expecting to watch this and completely lose my cool but it was a great video. You pretty much nailed it for both sides of the argument. I'm happy that intelligent, rational thinking leafs fans exist. You understand our frustration. Both isles and leafs fans can learn from this video. See you April 1st.
Fun video as always, even if a bit muted. Two things for the uninformed Leaf masses:
Wow Steve, this is a really rational take on the situation. Way better than most Leafs fans on twitter.
Excellent once again, Isles fan here, don't throw stuff on ice or at players ever, but on the whole the crowd was great, look for the singing of the anthems, very classy.
You see the Isles record on the 2nd half of a back to back? Wouldn’t mind if we were in your situation. Any more excuses?
Did the fans cross the line? Yes.
Did Tavares deserve what he got? To some extent....YES
Isles fan: great take Steve! I do admit it could have alot worse.
Thank you for your comments on Mats Sundin! We literally ran that guy out of town after he gave us everything he had for 13 seasons
Except we cheered when he scored the shootout winner and didnt chant asshole.
I'll never ever forget his #500 goal
The Sundin issue is different in my opinion. He easily could of allowed the Leafs to trade him to a contender instead of finishing out his contract and then joining a contender anyway. He would of had 2 chances to win a cup instead of just one and he would of helped out the team that made him. Win Win right? Remember unlike John, Matts wasn't going to re-sign regardless.
Last night's game... "We need to nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure."
As an Oilers fan last night was our best game of the season.
This is what I watch every year on the Leafs elimination day. 4 year in a row!!!!
Loved the atmosphere, seemed like a playoff game. Scotia bank needs to be better. Stupid corporate people and their $
I respect you a helluva lot more for this video, seriously I do - isles fan
But Steve, where are your Jammies?
Were the leafs protecting Andersen by playing him against the weaker team?
I do not understand Freddie starting vs. Edmonton and Sparks v. the Isles myself.
Honestly the worst part of that game was that Boston got 2 more points on us. 🤦🏻♂️
WAIT! Dangle swears on the podcast? I MUST GO LISTEN TO THAT XD
Atleast we got the first goal finally...
When you have an addiction
I went to a Leafs Habs game in Toronto. Wearing Habs gear. Some drunk guy wanted to fight. It was fun lol.
I am in!! Go Leafs Go!!
I'm glad the Islanders won. That mob was going to burn that place down if they lost.
Steve, what do you know about Mason Marchment? He would add some toughness, grit and plays heavy, could be a useful player over a guy like Tyler Ennis or Trevor Moore.Maybe in your next video you can bring it up?
