The Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition (5/2014, Tel Aviv).
Since its inception in 1974, the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition is one of the foremost Piano Competitions in the world. Arthur Rubinstein, who gave his blessing to the competition, headed the jury of the first two competitions (1974 & 1977).
The competition, is held every three years in Tel Aviv, Israel.

What an amazing young artist! There seems to be no limit to the variety in sound and tone color that he can draw from the piano. He makes it appear so natural and enjoyable , but we know it has taken hour upon hour to develop such a remarkable range in technique. Added to that is his artistry, knowledge and ability to apply those resources appropriately, making him a truly outstanding young musician. Bravo Seong-Jin Cho!
신이 아니고서야 어찌 이런 연주가 나올까.... 믿어지지 않는다. 표정과 몸짓 손놀림 자체가 현실 세계에서 초월한 느낌!
Cho is so expressive and versatile!!! He can play everything!!!
The one word that comes up listening to him is 'Depth'. His playing has major depth. The question is always do we want to listen to the artist again? And in his case I could listen to him all day. Bravo Mr. Cho.

I've never heard of the composer, Benjamin Yusupov but became curious because of SJ Cho's exceptional interpretation. The composer said he had written this piece to hear the maturity of the performer and mysterious sense of time that characterizes the sub-conscious of the musician. Valse Nobles et Sentimentales (starting at 11:21) is so romantic and surreal as many pieces of Ravel are and it makes me wonder how he could grasp the composers' intention so well at that young age. To me, he seems to be playing and acting at the same time in front of the piano, which is absolutely charming.

This competition took place in May, less than a year before the 2015 Chopin Piano Competition, one of the most or the most prestigious piano competitions in the world, where Seong-Jin Cho won the 1st prize and gold medal.
