- From Pinnacle to Pikin Slee. Donisha Prendergast visits the Rastafari Museum in Pikin Slee in Suriname. In Pinnacle, the cradle of the Rastafari Movement they want to build a museum to preserve the heritage of a people who guided by Leonard Percival Howell, aka the first Rasta lived free and economical self-sufficient in a era of colonialism and economical exploitation. Donisha did find inspiration in the Saamaka Museum deep in the interior of Suriname where traditional subjects of the Maroons are preserved in a combination of modern woodcraft, produced by the members of Totomboti. But she found more than that, she found herself a new spiritual family. She even met the president of Suriname Desi Bouterse with whom she spoke openly about the legalisation of ganja.
Special thanks to Romeo Starke

The scenery of the entire journey is magnificently beautiful. The hospitality of the people in Suriname is reflective of the ways of the ancestors. It is very heartening to know and to feel the warmth and connection in the blending of the cultures. One love.

When some people say the word MAROON they interpreted the word as runaway slaves. I feel that word is degrading of our people. For those liberating themselves during those days that was never the thought. In those days also, most of my people were captives from Africa and not in one bit a slave. Therefore it was their right to violently leave the plantations and defend those who want to join and silence those who want to remain. So it is on arrival in the West, that all noble Africans would start sorting ways of fighting against the evil systems there, and thus freeing companions who were also desirous of liberation. On the other hand a slave was the one that did not have the will to leave the slave holders camp/plantation for fear of being brutally mistreated and also put to death as an example. However a real warrior would die fighting while making blocking the path of the enemy while others escaped on the route to freedom. Let us abide with the names our Ancestors choose to name themselves and not by the names given by the Oppressors.
