Sunset Dreams by Cheel
I always think about in a dark dark wood too!
I devoured the Ninth House! Chef’s kiss
I really recommend if we were villains by ML Rio for the secret history vibes!!
I've seen One Hundred Years of Solitude brought up a lot this year. I read in 2000 and really loved it, and then someone told me how they preferred Love in the Time of Cholera. Of all his books, that is the one I now go back to every few years. It has a similar multi-year telling, but it's focused on the lives of only two people. The movie is good but doesn't quite bring everything out. I highly recommend.
Hey Hailey! I miss your videos. Hope everything is going well :) I found Eleanor Oliphant in my library’s sale section for 25 cents and I haven’t read it yet but I’m definitely more interested now after watching this video.
A soooo beautiful video. 😍Thanks, Hailey. 💋
The Likeness by Tana French reminds so does much of The Secret History but way better. There’s still the unnaturally close college friend group, murder, mystery and I loved it so much!
I have a similar thing with The Metamorphosis like I gave it even only 3.5 start right after reading but my thoughts keep coming back to it, to how it is a commentary on depression or other illness or maybe even being old, to how smell and goo were here... idk but it really keeps me thinking? i feel it's at least 4.5 now for me
btw, i very much relate to "i don't know why" part in your video because it's really hard to explain why you keep thinking about some books! it's just there. and actually i think more often than not they are dark and disturbing books like it still bothers you in a way as if you didn't get some closure? something like that
oh and i decided to reread 100yos thought it's a stretch to say "reread" maybe as i read it in high school and the only thing i remember is that i liked it and read it really fast. that's all. so i wanted to reread it for quite a while and very happy emmie decided to do buddy reading vlogs for it!)
ps: btw, english is not my first language so i have a constant problem with articles and what is punctuation idk her sorry for that🙈😹
pps: Johnny got his gun sounds really, well, disturbing and i want to read it. but i feel it will be heavier for me than the metamorphosis so I'm not sure I'll get to it. but i still want to. but at the same time i don't. ugh.
I knew Eleanor Oliphant would be on the list 🧡🤎
😍❤❤Your channel is literally my comfort place. You make me so happy. Love you❤😁❤
Reading literature you learn to have an emotional reaction to issues; reading history you learn to investigate issues (like Perry Mason?). My lunch-time thought (so far).
I got those 2 BOTM books plus Small Angels! We have very similar tastes. Except I didn't really like Ninth House. It was a bit too much fantasy for me. But I do like the NE college campus sets lol. I literally only read it because I live in CT though.
I'm currently reading Eleanor Oliphant...so was happy to hear your enthusiastic thoughts. I need to read Ruth Ware 👍
Nice roundup! You and Emma would compliment each other really well, I immediately thought of her 100 Years of Solitude read when you mentioned the book. I try not to be snobby, but some books really do stand out, like 'oh, ok this is actual art' 😂.
I enjoyed Mexican Gothic. I'm going to read her new one that just came out, The Daughter of Doctor Moreau. I really enjoy hearing her talk about books too. She seems very knowledgeable, especially when it comes to stuff like gothic and horror.
I enjoyed Ninth House, though I felt it lost some steam near the end. Interested in the sequel though. I still need to pick up Secret History!!
I feel like there’s so much judgement about being a book snob but honestly as long as you’re not being rude towards anyone or judgemental I feel like it’s the life I’m meant to live in my book world😂
You HAVE to read If We Were Villains by ML Rio. I personally liked it even better than the secret history!!
I think you may like Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi! It is my favorite book! Similar vibes and themes as One Hundred Years if Solitute❤️
Considering the setting you like most, have you read 1959's "A Separate Peace" by John Knowles? Late summer-Fall-Winter atmosphere 👍
I have!! Love it :-)
I haven’t read so many of these 😅
❤️ your channel and always appreciate your videos… I do recall you didn’t much like reading “Eleanor Olipant etc” though 😏 but maybe I’m mistaken because I’m pretty tired too from work haha 😆 grad school sounds pretty intense btw... Speaking of books with a common theme - how about finding a book that describes how crappy and boring Houston is??? 😅
oh ive had the secret history on my tbr forever. plus the paperback edition I have is SO pleasant to hold! lol oh, ill hafta get to it in late September or early October for fall fun!
“This is about Eleanor Oliphant who is a young woman. Well she’s not young she’s in her 30s” 💀
Hahahaha I feel like when I say “young woman” I’m thinking young adult which is like late teens to early twenties. 30 definitely still young overall tho🤣
I laughed at that too!
mexican gothic❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
