- Discord has a growing problem because people cant think with their heads.
A bunch of Discord servers have been popping up on tiktok. Where people are saying that "x server is better" or "y best server". But what's inside of these Discord servers? Better yet, why do people even make and advertise these servers?
Well from failed Discord safety measures up to full blown piracy, Discord has to put their foot down and deal with the down bad side of Discord.

It's definitely a very biased website, they cite sources from a religious group (conflict of interest lol)
Regardless, read a couple more studies and it's a controversial topic. Basically, DSM-5 doesn't classify it as an addiction. ICD-11 labels it as an impulsive control disorder.

Here in Brazil about 8 months ago there was a huge scandal (with most main TV channels covering the story) where the actual Federal Police investigated a huge Discord Server where the admins/owners would blackmail newcomers (mostly minor girls and a couple boys) into some really messed up stuff.
At first they'd request an "iniciation" into the server, where the target would have to share their faces and then do some shameful stuff, but after a while they'd threat them most of the time with Doxxing and force them to the heavy stuff: self-multilament with knives, setting big stuff on their houses on fire, torturing (and even killing) pets, sharing nudes, fleeing their houses and going into their cities, threating them like "gods" and there was even multiple acusations of r*p*
thankfully they've all been arrested, and what's crazy is that there were people from cities across the entire country involved....
Discord really has to do something about its (non-existent) moderation
It seems like discord is becoming the new Telegram. It's really a shame to see such a slow or even if any response to the threat of not only explicit content but also mass-blackmail and other things you've described.

The Roblox Condo Discord servers are also not very different. Rather they have a "For discord staff" channel too where they put their fake message up to the Discord staff.
If Discord ever gets responsible with the reports, they could literally be helping thousands of minors by banning these servers and subsequently destroying the condo chains.

it is a real genuine problem,although we as the community can SLIGHTLY do one thing to maybe stop this and its by going in them and literally mass reporting when a new game comes out,does it work 100% of the time? no. But is it enough to annoy condo owners and possibly slow it down yes.

As someone who was exposed to pornography at a young age it really does affect you as you age…I honestly when I was younger I couldn’t look at my own body without being disgusted or slightly aroused….i had also viewed some people as objects…I was hyper sexual at 14, I had found discord sexting sites and met some strangers online…I saw them as friends…it ruined my mental health and gave me an eating disorder aswell as insomnia because I wanted to be online as much as possible to interact with them. and the only reason I had done it back than was because I seemed validation, I seeked attention that my parents or family members didn’t…and now I’m in therapy, I am aroace and I’m trying so hard to resist the temptations so far I hadn’t viewed that stuff in 7 years also, I am forever thankful for my parents punishing me from my phone for 2 years once they found out, it helped me heal and rediscover who I really was.

i can literally have my account be deleted for "being underage" when i joked about being 8 years old, got reported, get my account disabled, ID DO THE RIGHT THING TO APPEAL THE BAN, give them my ID, a selfie, and my discord username ALL in the same photo, and they still. STILL. wont unban me. discord seriously does not. care.

Not only do they use bots from these servers to get you to join more of them, but they also use different scam bots (mostly raiding bots) to get permission to join servers for you. Something like this happened to me. I was mad at my friends for banning me from his servers, so I decided to raid them, but I had no idea how to raid the server, so I went to CZcams and found a video where they told me how to raid a server through a bot. In the video description, they had a link to DC, from where you can get the bot. I joined the server, and a bot asked me for permission to join the server for me. Later, I decided not to raid the server, and I left the server (from where I got the bot), but strangely, I kept getting added back to the server and also on some NSFW and scam servers. I didn't know why it was happening until I found out about the authorization setting and deauthorize the bot. Then it stopped.
Thank you for bringing light to this dark side of Discord. Spreading awareness about topics like this at least have the chance to either change something or, at the very least, they can prevent users to fall victim to some scammy things. Thank you!
Also, maybe this is not the right place for this question, but regarding the permissions you grant to a bot etc. as seen at 11:31, is there a way to revoke those permissions?
you can delete the authorizations manually in Discord's settings but I'm pretty sure that it will take away the verification and those that are down bad probably want to stay in those servers after they get terminated so that option doesn't solve many problems

It's absolutely insane how predatory these servers are, all for the sake of money and their own personal gain. It's disgusting. Thank you for shedding light on this issue so that at least those who fell for this scam realize that they need to get out soon, or for those who have family, friends, lovers who fell for this scam and just wants to help them escape this horrible situation. Even if Discord doesn't do anything about this, at least we got people like you to help others.

my mind has been a little ruined by discord as i was around 14 y/o when i got into furry servers and worse. not blaming furries, just discord and some people. heck, i haven't even been in some really awful situations, and even then i have been affected. discord really should fix this problem, because i feel the urge to join servers again.

I had the same idea, bro but this is different. I had got a singlular Dm from a random guy and i decided to join a server that he sent a link to me and my acc was unintentionally sending scam links to all my group dms and servers and this was an absolute nightmare, so this is extremely controversial to social media since porn is such a terrible addiction especially among teens.
I also decided to dig through some servers through tiktok, i did find many and i mean MANY of these server links and it just went on and on like a chain. One day, discord will have a very controversial case and this is absolutely annoying. This caused me to get banned in all my servers I had a specific staff role in a server and now I got banned thanks to this piece of garbage.

as a teenager, i know exactly how easy it is to fall into these kinds of pits, and ive seen others who were way worse than me. i was in the Ridge one time (not a mental hospital even though it's exactly like the psych ward i was in last year) and i met a girl who i jokingly said "what are you in for?" to and she was there for masturbation addiction. to think that something could be so bad that they put you in Hell itself (seriously, if youre there against your will its basically like being kidnapped by scientists) is crazy to me and its annoying to see places like these servers still up.

I've been using discord since 2017, Being super careful with my account. I've had many memories with that account. Many many friends. My whole childhood was on discord and roblox and CZcams. That time discord was something else and now it has messed itself up. They banned me on November of 2023 bbecause" I said I am 6 (jk) " And I didn't even mean it as age. My friend asked me what do you rate your face, I said I am 6 and they banned me because I was underage. It got me so worried I sent multiple reports but they didn't even bother responding. I sent them messages via email, Twitter, but again no response. After 1 month my account, my 6 year old account was banned. My whole childhood faded and my memories were gone.

quick tip: if you have previously verified/authorized a bot you can go into setteing//authorized apps and remove anything you no longer want.

FYI all it takes to access NSFW channels is tell discord you're 18, then click allow when it asks you if you want to view that channel. There is no verification needed or need to take alternative measures to bypass it. I'm sure by now that the majority of teens on the internet have no problem lying about their age and most apps don't care in verifying any of that.
Theres only verification if you told the truth before and became a adult later or if they somehow find out you lied about your age

Kinda not related, but a while ago, me and a buddy of mine were scrolling through disboard server, trying to find ones where we can just screw around in, and slightly inconvenience people.
Well we came across this nsfw furry rp server, and after going through the lengthiest verify process I've ever seen for a server (like you had to make your own furry OC, give it a name, gender, etc) we got in. And holy crap this server had a MILLION channels in them. We couldn't really do much when it came to trolling cause we'd lose the channel if we scrolled too far from it.
Anyways after about, 10 minutes of being in the server, my buddy starts sharing his screen showing the inside of a channel called "d--- pics" and by God it was horrifying. It's exactly as the channel name implies, people PUBLICLY sending pictures of their privates. Mind you, most of the server members, and active users of this channel were most likely, if not definitely minors.
It was absolutely disgusting seeing what people are doing to kids now, and it doesn't look great for future generations either. I pray this server was taken down after the bombardment of reports we made on it, but God only knows.
To anyone who has a kid/plans on having kids, do NOT give them Internet access at an early age. It does something to one.
Internet, with moderation, is not a bad idea for a child - however, nowadays parents are increasingly more preoccupied with other things, and believe than the internet is moderated in "good conscience" by the companies. Even I, as a 21 year old, still cling to the old days of when you could enjoy the internet rather safely as a kid, while knowing it's not true.
So yes, parents should choose one of the two - moderate the content intake themselves, or simply limit/outright ban the use of internet until a certain age (I believe 8-10 to be great for introduction to safe browsing and general use of internet, and 13-15 to lift the moderation while still making sure to educate them of how to avoid dangerous/harmful materials).
Best way to avoid these situations is with prevention, and solid prevention is one done with education. Forbidding something straight up will instead make dangerous situations that are caused by the childish curiosity.

What sane person who is above the age of 18 is advertising these servers? Now children are much easier to retrieve which is really just an abuse if trust and also bad parenting (I mean my kid is not getting full internet access before 16, and by that I mean fuck no am I allowing them on discord or Instagram, insta has only gotten worse with the fact that you can just see people dying regularly on there)
i joined discord in 2017 and i ended up getting banned in 2023 because whenever i was trying to find a new server to join, i kept finding server after server that broke the TOS so i’d join each server to report it, eventually discord just banned me cause they said i was intentionally being apart of groups that went against TOS 💀 like?? their moderation is absolutely insane, and on top of that they would NOT reply to any of my emails and just straight up deleted my whole account without a single warning.

4:14 boy I learned this the hard way, they disabled my account for no reason, and then did not answer my tickets, the few times I got a reply, it was an automated message saying I broke terms of service, but no actual proof or further details, I know I did nothing wrong.
It's funny how these bad servers and bad people get away with anything, but someone like me who spent years to develop a legit bot, spent hours to read every single guideline and rules to make sure everything is ok. And spent every single day moderating so people are safe, well I get my account disabled, how funny is that.
They're not good at catching bad guys, but they throw bans around at random in the hopes of catching bad guys, how sad.

I've had an experience with a server that talked a lot about porn and also had minors, and it led me to me "voice acting" and even "writing" at literally 12 years old, which rightfully got my OG account banned. You can probably tell what happened a year later when I met someone who had even more experience.
This video should really serve as a warning for all minors using Discord and the detrimental effects.

My friend last week was looking for anime servers to join. He went to one of those sites that has a list of all these various community discord servers and what have you. Anyways, one of them that he ended up joining had legit CP on it. He then calls me asking how to report the server. He reports the server and leaves shortly there after. Though he's been a bit shaken up since then. To be honest I think reporting that server to the FBI would've been smarter or at least reporting the website link(s) my friend found.
At the end of the day I learned where the closest FBI office to me is and learned that reporting a crime is annoying because there's different links for xyz form. Not like just one stop shop, no, no you gotta go here and then here, oh and now you're in the right place.
The fact that discord refuses to remove the "join servers for you" thing despite how useless it is for legitimate purposes and how abusable it is for malicious purpopes, makes me think discord is getting a piece of the pie to turn a blind eye.
well, it's more that it does have legitimate uses, The issue is those legitimate uses also get used terribly. it's like the usb killer, it's got a legitimate purpose for testing devices against overloading but often gets used maliciously

Event Participation: For events that utilize temporary Discord servers (like hackathons, gaming tournaments, or community gatherings), a bot could automatically join you to these servers based on your registration allowing for larger servers especially to run events.
Customized Recommendations: Similar to how some platforms recommend groups or communities based on your interests, a bot could use your Discord activity and preferences to suggest new servers that match your interests and automatically join you to them.
Off platform management: another use is too allow the use of off platform management tools to allow you to join discord servers from a central dashboard
@@LilacMonarch some hosting services and maybe some others use it to automatically join the person such that they can verify that the account has a link to the account on the website and if discord just randomly remove it it would break, so they won't just remove it and they shouldn't as it would break so many things. It is not simple like you think, yes it is abused but still that is the users responsibility to safeguard himself. Discord should not remove this now.

I guess to make people not have to click invite links if that would be too frequent...? I've seen it used on at least one of the Discord server lists. But, honestly, there's no such thing as "too frequent clicking of invite links"...
And don't forget about the fake scammer "giveaway servers" who only give 1 MINUTE CLAIM TIMES, but when i'm in a community of my own they host giveaways with either one day max or literally till the winner replies.
this video is such a W coming from someone who had this addiction. Children don't have the best impulse control and their brains are still developing (even into the late 20s). It's our job (and their parents) to protect them, not hand it out like some flyer.

I mod a server where minors (one of them even being 12) were posting nsfw stuff. Theres a rule against it and nobody wants to see it. Its a small server and a lot of the members have done this and been banned. It's so bad.

@@ogksknkrv6738 its even lower than that in a lot of europe, like 15-16+ in some areas, i think even lower but im not sure. the thing is, its got nothing to do with the alcohol, or the porn, and it's got everything to do with how you were raised, trauma experienced, and genetic factors. some people end up as alcoholics, most people dont, some people end up as gooners, most people dont. i've been browsing porn sites since i was like 9, and i've got no ill effects from it, and i wouldnt be worried at all if i had kids and they did the same. but i have a pretty sex positive view of the world, so i dont consider this kind of thing to be 'dirty' or in any way or something someone should be embarrassed of or private about, so my definition of normal runs counter to society. you're fine imo if you're not like, spending money on shit like onlyfans, or beating your dick literally 24/7 nonstop, a lot of people consider needing a wank every night to be addiction, i think thats stupid. i think 90% of the shit we see happen in america is the direct result of this uptight and prudish attitude society has towards this kind of thing, rather than the things it supposedly protects us from.

i think the biggest issue is that the only way to verify someones age for this stuff, is just pressing a button "yeah im for sure 18+" i know any other way of age verification would be creepy like sending in id photos and stuff like that lmao but seriously they gotta figure out somehting

I NEVER touched TikTok, I had no idea this was still a thing after rhe scandals that happened a while back about such and I think one of mt friends accounts got hacked or something because they sent me an invite link out of the blue with a discord server that is NSFW and with the EXACT banned in pink comic sans on black.

I'm just wondering at this point how Discord hasn't been already sued and shut down...
I just got my account disabled for a couple days because of "child endangerment" when I had done literally nothing. I assume I got spam reported or something and moderators thought to ban me without looking into the reason I was flagged. I am now in the appeal process, 2 days in with 2 bot responses, yet they continue to keep these servers up and not ban the real problematic people. This platform is becoming the next roblox.
Just FYI, when questioned in congress about how many moderators discord employed, discord stated "hundreds". Discord has a serious T&S issue, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see regulatory pressure soon.
