- In recent years, NASA's Artemis program has made increasing progress. Initially conceived as a "sister" to the Apollo program, Artemis will, in its most fundamental aspects, replicate the sequence of missions that put humans on the Moon

The first mission: Artemis 1
Artemis 1, formally called Exploration Mission -1, represents the official start of the program missions. Currently, it is still scheduled to start at the end of 2021, but it seems that even this date may be delayed, motivated by the emergency, but actually due to the still uncertain results of the Green Run test of the Space Launch System. The launch could thus slip until the spring of 2022.
Very interesting is the CubeSat mission called Near-Earth Asteroid Scout, which is basically a technology demonstrator of a controllable solar sail spacecraft.
The second mission: Artemis 2
The Artemis 2 mission will be the first with 4 astronauts on board. The objective is to perform a flyover of the Moon with a crew on board, but it will not yet descend to the surface.
The Orion capsule will perform a single orbit around the Moon, coming within 7500 km of the surface at its closest point
The third mission: Artemis 3
Artemis 3, which optimistically will launch in 2025, will be the first mission to bring a woman to the lunar surface, possibly with a black astronaut.

When I was a kid, I was fascinated with the scale of things. I'd stare at mountains, skyscrapers, cities and other large, distant objects during the 2-3 day vacation drive. I loved seeing how, travelling these vast distances, you're able to get a sense of the magnitude of these objects. Well, what would be better than watching the approach of a celestial body?

I'm so unbelievably excited for the start of Artemis in two days. I want to major in astronomy and planetary science in a few years, and hope to work for humanity's overall progression through programs such as this. This is my future, and it is also the future of the many generations to come after I leave this world. This, this is *our* future, and my one goal in life is to assist in our progression to it. I hope there are others like me here, and I hope to work with you someday!
I would love to see one of the Artemis missions land next to one of the Apollo sights and take pictures of it 50+ years after the original crew left.

being one year younger than you I totally agree with your take that the moon landings were the greatest events of many of our lifetimes. I remember staying up all through the night to watch Neil Armstrong take that first step in Scotland. The small box like black and white TV sets were so crude compared to the high def. color sets we take for granted today.

We didn’t stop after the moon, we just transitioned to low earth orbit space exploration and science. We are a lot better at designing and building human space environments, suits and ships than we were for Apollo.
It would have cost trillions of dollars....the only reason the Space Industry is going to take off is if is profitable....there are no unprofitable succesful industries.....cars, computers, airlinest etc,etc....get forever subsidies from the government is not an alternative ....... the space industry that can flourish in the moon is tourism or mining...and so far the only reason to mine the moon is hellium for fission energy. ....there are not even fission reactors in operation.....I'm optimistic that there will be a fission reactor soon....but the second problem is the extraction of hellium from the moon there is not a technology to extract hellium from the moon....I hope for mining hellium somebody will invent a technology....if that is not the case ....the moon will stay as an outpost....like the antarctic....nobody is living there just only a group of scientist....and the antarctic is a paradise compare to the moon or other planets

The moon missions failed before because 10's of thousands complained they couldn't feed their 10 kids and all the money went into nothing but empty space and lost forever. Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, Iraqi War, and Afghanistan all those conflicts have accounted for about 30 trillions dollars in spending by not just fighting the wars which is separate from the annual budgets. Take that money and spend it on NASA and we are on the moon and Mars and probably working on terraforming the planet. That’s why it’s more important now than ever, to stop any war. There are other ways to solve conflicts, our weapons are too deadly now to be fighting wars. That’s probably why these UFOs are visiting, they probably can’t believe we waste so many resources on military, while so many still suffer.

Don't forget, the Orion capsule has flown before, on Exploration Flight Test 1 in December 2014. Artemis 1 is not its first flight!

We need to send small transponder satellites out to "tag" all the NEOs we have to worry about. Perhaps the satellites can create an NEO network. We need to do it soon, rather than rely on dubious visual sightings. Maybe you can make a video episode about NEOs?

Luckily at this right moment a Finnish company called Aurora propulsion technologies is developing small bots that will be able to clean up low earth orbit. They are the latest customer of Rocket Lab which is a company from New Zealand that does build rockets. They will start in the not so far in the future to clean up the mess that others have left in low earth orbit.

Some of the information presented isn’t up to date (at the time the video was made). The video doesn’t talk about what could happen if the schedule slips, which appears to be likely. Falcon Heavy and Starship(s) could do much of the mission without SLS or Orion.

I trust and hope this entire program will be a success. The scientists and engineers involved are the best minds the planet has to offer.
The sad part is the companies (executives) which are working on this project, mostly cares about money and have no troubles to delay the project just to get more and more bucks from the government. This is the reason why the SLS has cost a s..tload of money, most parts are not reusable and boosters and lot of the stuff is just upgraded version of the Shuttle program.
By the way, I highly recommend Moon Machine documentary series. Especially for those claiming moon landing was fake.

The Chinese trying to get to the moon as well may be out only way of getting it going just as it was with Apollo back in the day. That is if the government cares as much about beating china just as much as they did the Soviet Union.

If I had to venture a guess as to what this will look like in 2026: starship can carry 800 people so on the conservative side 20 people and gear, but remember Elon is going to be mass producing these ships..... what we could see is 100 starships landing on the moon and a massive space station in lunar orbit...also the graphics are great and well done, you might think about using kerbal space program as a way to visualize the reality of what will be happening.....(KSP can teach a dog how to fly to the moon). Starship is landing on the moon because NASA is paying SpaceX to modify their Starship to do so. Otherwise, Musk has no interest in the moon. I highly doubt that NASA will order 100 Starships to land on the moon, so SpaceX won't be doing anything remotely close to that. Musk has his sights on Mars - and even then, there is no indication that SpaceX would - or would even need to mass produce these things. The entire advantage to what SpaceX has been doing with the Starship and Falcon rockets is the reusability. They launch, they land, they launch again. The most recent iteration of the Falcon 9 for example (Block 5) has a grand total of 14 rockets. Six of them have flown five times or more. Those 14 rockets have flown 67 missions. Or at least the first stages have.
It's also worth mentioning that Starship isn't even taking astronauts from the Earth to the moon. SLS will launch astronauts in the Orion capsule - which will rendezvous at an orbiting lunar space station where Starship will be waiting to take astronauts from the station to the lunar surface. At least this is the ultimate goal for NASA (not SpaceX - SpaceX is just being paid to provide the landing system for NASA). The first landing (Artemis III) will likely rendezvous directly with Starship since Gateway (the orbital station) probably won't be finished yet. The point is, if NASA (again, NOT SpaceX) wanted to send more astronauts to the moon, they'd send Orion again and the same Starship would shuttle them from the station to the lunar surface. There are no plans for multiple Starship vessels. It certainly wouldn't be 100 of them.

Hopefully the gateway gets scrapped and replaced with a moon direct mission. The gateway makes missions more complex and dangerous. And the gateway doesn’t really serve a purpose that a base on the moon wouldn’t serve.
You're right that a space station doesn't serve much for the goal of returning to the moon.
But I'd argue that Gateway is at least as important as any lunar surface base. For the long term exploration of the solar system it will be essential to learn how operate a zero G deep space station.
Is the Space Launch System actually going to be launched? It seems like only delays, errors and excuses. It seems like Boeing needs to sort itself out before taking on huge projects like this.

Space the final never ending frontier, I always wondered where does outer space end? And if it ends how does it end? If it has no end whats out there and how can it go on forever when everything else we know of has a beginning and an end? There are so many unanswered questions like was there ever life on other planets like mars? Can we terraform other planets like mars or the moon to support life especially human life with minimal or no space suits and equipment.
I think space exploration will make our world even smaller and make people protect our planet more by not littering everywhere they go when its easy to hold onto your trash until getting to a waste bin, recycling, reusing or repurposing things, donating old or unwanted stuff instead of throwing away, and limiting single use plastics. Ifyou truly care about our planet and protecting its unique wildlife from continuing to disappear forever then atleast do your part people.

Why is it that NASA, with its advanced technology, is so careful to land humans on the moon? While since 1969 NASA with simpler technology can land humans several times to the moon. Who can answer?
The accords aren't even accords, and the mission starts with igniting reusable engines on a non-reusable platform. Success in these missions is going to be a set of goalposts moving at orbital speed.

@@HeiserPlays The first Crew Dragon was two years late. In the meantime SpaceX spent $250 million on SolarCity. That was all government money meant to help people go to space and SpacwX wasted ity on a scam. There is a real Federal case.
@@HeiserPlays You compare SpaceX to NASA, which is wrong. NASA is an agency of scientists and engineers that is FORCED to get its gizmos from the private companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. So what you should do is compare SpaceX to other private contractors, not NASA.
Due to the legalized corruption (which is called lobbying in USA), other private companies have NASA by the balls through Congress.
And the rise of private companies that specialize in rocketry is actually NASA's doing - they were trying to break away from other private companies that have, for decades, held the monopoly and could dictate prices how ever they liked.
What, you think SpaceX came to be because Elon Musk is smart? He's just a public face - folks that actually make things happen are in large part engineers already tied to space industry who just switched the employer, and SpaceX got decades of designing and troubleshooting documentation from NASA itself, while the money comes from government and investors - Musk does not have that money.
So you really need to understand the system and who's who in that whole story. I am getting really annoyed when people compare NASA to SpaceX, as it shows they don't understand the industry. Without NASA, SpaceX does not exist in the first place. Wanna compare SpaceX to someone? Boeing and Lockheed Martin are your targets, not NASA.
