      Patriotism is quite recneck in Finland. They just want to get attention and go crazy to become part of the meme.
      But it’s also easy to identify with hockey when every other ten-year-old dude wanted to play as a mvp pro and win the World Championships and Stanley Cup every year.

    Canadian in Finland, but Finland was just buzzzzing both before and after the game. Watch parties, seemingly the whole country tuned in, and even at the grocery store everyone seemed to be loading up with snacks and all.
    Felt like Canada was dominating early in that game, but when the Finns got momentum... holy sh**.

    • @steveray7770
      @steveray7770 Před 2 lety +3

      "lol" Can you guess why the Finns got the momentum ? Canadian player gets a phantome penalty call for Finn player hitting himself with his very own stick giving Finns a 5 on 3 man advantage. The Finns scored , Caniadian goalie gets hurt on that goal fiinnishing the game with their third string goalie . The Finns scored again before that phantome penalty is over. Wow what a holy momentum help the Finns got. And for the finally to end the game after Canada fought back to tie the game through sheer determination, in overtime the Finns wins on what, oh on a powerplay.! Who are they celebrating for, the hockey team or the refs? .. holy sh** is absolutely right!

    I don't follow ice hockey, it just isn't one of my interests. So I don't really understand the hype that well. But of course it's great that Finland won and I'm very proud of the professional hockey players and my home country. But still, I find it disrespectful to climb in that Havis Amanda statue and on the rooftops. I mean, of course you can celebrate. But this crazyness is, in my opinion, a little too much. You should still behave and make sure to be safe - and being drunk and climbing anywhere is definitely not that safe. Poor Havis Amanda. (Call me flowerhat aunt, if you like).
    But, I still need to emphasize: I'm very proud of Finland. It's fabulous that these happy things still happen (with the world situation being what it is and all that s*it).

      idk I kinda get the rooftop parts of what you mean. And I get what you mean overall as well. But one of the arguments aÍ have heard is that this kinda gives more to the statues themselves. Like, typically they're just standing there and nobody, apart from a VERY few people who appreciate the art of smt.
      This kind of gives the statues more value to an average person, not interested in statues because the statues became a landmark where people gather to celebrate. It provides more overall meaning to it. As it pretty much helps to unite the people celebrating etc.
      so yeah, I get where you're coming from, but I personally like more the idea where the statue unites the people celebrating, rather than it just standing there away from everything.

    Canada has a 1 - 0 lead. One minute into the third Canada gets a two- minute penalty. With five seconds left to kill Canada takes another penalty to go two men down. Canada kills off the first penalty and a minute later takes the phantom high stick penalty to go two men down yet again.
    The Finns score on the two-man advantage and Canada's goalie is injured. On comes a third string goalie in a short-handed situation who gets scored on right away. In less than 30 seconds Finland scores two and Canada loses its goalie all because of outright cheating or gross incompetence.
    The two minute penalty Canada took in overtime after the Finnish dive could have been corrected by giving the Finn who dove a penalty for pulling down the Canadian chasing the puck. Instead the Finns got to get possession and enjoyed a brief advantage.
    The lost cost Canada the IIHF #1 ranking only making the charade even more costly.
    There is a reason North Americans ignore the IIHF world championships. It's a fix.

The refs were bad, but I believe you see it somewhat through mapple leaf tinted glasses. The phantom penalty came 2 seconds after the referee could have given 2min for slashing. Then there was several other plays where refs could (or even should) have given a minor penalty for CAN, but they didn't.
      You did not bring up that some NHL'ers are not there: but the Finns would also love to see their own best players in these tournaments, even if it reduced their changes little bit against some of the big 6 countries. It's not Finnish fans' fault that IIHF and NHL can't come up with schedules that works for both. And I am old enough to remember Nagano Olympics. Canadians were sure that it will be CAN-USA final, but then their NHL-stars (not everyone) ended up trashing their hotel rooms after every medal went to Europe.
