WHM 4.5 Changes by Levi: ~ Q: Do I hold assize for one minute still to align with trick and contagion? - A: No, you’ll use it on CD when you can do so without clipping. DO keep the first one aligned with them, however. You may hold the last one(s) of a fight for buff alignment if you won’t lose a use overall. Ideally you’d 4th one will come up with the 3minute raid buff window (and 6, etc) but don’t bend over backwards for this. ~ Q: should I hold assize to aoe heal now? - A: yes & no. If you can hold it for a short duration (like under 15s) and have it AOE heal such that it would cut out a GCD heal, do so. But do not hold it so long that you’d lose an entire use (unless potentially you’re cutting out healer GCDs, that’s a case by case thing, but usually still no because 400 DPS potency > 250/230 stone or broil potency). ~ Q: What about the plenary changes? ~ A: it’s a nice QoL buff that we’ll see the skill get a few more planned uses, but it’s still locked behind GCD heals, so ultimately not many outside of 12s and ultimate fights. You will, however, always be able to pop your stacks by weaving now, since they last long enough. ~ Q: What about all that enmity reduction? - A: Congrats, warriors will bitch less and you can lucid when you want to. This changes hardly anything for you. ~ Q: These changes suck, don’t they? ~ A: Yup. Incredibly underwhelming, but who was really surprised
Easily one of the best guides I've seen up to date. Legit covers everything you need to know on healing and optimizing properly on them. Excellent job, Momo!
Best/most in-depth healing guide I have ever seen. Thank you Momo and everyone who helped him for all the work you guys put into this guide. I for sure learned more than a few things in this guide.
Watching your vids makes me learn A LOT! I used to main AST but at the start of Alphascape, I decided to branch out and learn the other two just to help new players who wanna raid. Meanwhile my static got a bit better and my partner in crime is doing way better thxs to your video, and we just got our (not so fast) speed run the other day. Gotta say! Keep up with these video, its an ENORMOUS help for a lot of us out there!!
Wow, awesome video, man! I'm not an "optimize all the things" type of person, so my focus isn't so much on progression raiding and maximizing DPS, but it's still really useful information, such as what is (and is not) buffed by buffing abilities, how abilities stack up, how strong things are (like I didn't know the Faerie got less heal-per-potency compared to the SCH themselves), and just general all around information. I firmly believe that knowledge is useful, and any knowledge that can be applied to progression can be applied to non-progression, just with bigger margins. Increasing efficiency is never a bad thing, as long as one isn't consumed in the process. :) Thanks for all the great info, and I'm totally sharing this with my FC!
Great video. As a DPS who never raided as a healer, it's also nice to understand more the healing side of things. Thanks for the little part on DPS mitigation tools at the end, I try using them but I always end up feeling it doesn't matter much for my healers. Is there a chance you'll make a whole video on all those tools maybe? :D It would be awesome.
Fantastic video. I feel like a video like this is long over due. Glad it was from you. I just hope people understand you can't just "copy" what other healers do. Example, I was healing speed runs with a DRK and the other Healer said that is what Ahri does, and I had to explain to them you cant. They had veil+wings to help with mitigation which we didnt. People tend to forget that tanks/dps utilities are extremely important to healer dps, and I'm glad this message is out.
Wow this is a godlike video. I wish the video was broken up into separate videos since there is so much information. With the advent of Shadow Bringers coming I can only wonder how long it would take for momo make a video of those skills and their usage. Either way great video awesome, transitions, and music choices. This may be my favorite tutorial video on FFXIV. As good as the Xeno Tank optimization in terms of quality of information.
I first learn how to be a proper shinobi from your video. Now Im learning the art of healing. I must say your guides are awesome and make me better, ty.
Thanks for this. I'm going to be returning soon to get ready for the expansion and I really needed to brush up on my healing since I haven't played in six months. Kudos!
May need to pause. I want to clarify real quick that you should not be using Selene in a pug environment. Some people seemed to be worried that players will start using my video as an excuse to grief other players. Only use Selene when you've set a foundation for your healing with the other cohealer and your static can properly mitigate mechanics. You don't have this option in PF unless the group as a whole is really good. I don't even use Selene in PF so please don't. Same goes for using Diurnal over Nocturnal Sect with a WHM. Only do this when you have clear comms with your cohealer.
I just started playing Scholar and I was feeling pretty lost on how to use what I have effectively after just learning some fights on WHM. Super helpful
Great video momo, I admit I'm an independent healer in pf, but this video really helps on communication with the team. Builds on synergy and makes me a better player!
really well done Momo. I ofc have my healers lvl'd to 70 and around ilvl 370 etc, but i dont main heal but even I found this insightful and educational and mad props for the length and detail that u put into it. Hopefully vids and tutorials (of sorts) like this can really help educate and inspire the raid groups on how much effort and skill they can actually control and display. The result of mastering these abilities and timings are truly next level, and def. makes sense why ppl are able to constantly and consistently clear raid tiers.. its the determination of the player to continually strive to become and perform better that is required before even considering such high level raids as UWU or UCOB.
MOMO! Thank you for this! I main SCH / heals and although I'm not the best, I always look forward to seeing more guides from you. There's certain things and details I forget or become complacent about (I'm damn guilty) and I'm quite a slow learner, but thank you for your guides as I can always refer to them if I miss anything critical or I need to improve further. Slowly but at least, very surely. Thanks for being a great SCH mentor on the interwebs. :D (p.s. - how do... you people have 10,000 spreadsheets HSKFJHSDG )
really good guide that sums up a majority of my thoughts when people tell me they think SCH is the only healer that needs to proactively plan out most of their abilities though skipping ahead, at 36:00, fey illumination actually is a healing buff that gets applied on the buff wielder rather than a 'convo' like ability thanks ambiguous FFXIV localization tooltips :) can be easily tested by healing randoms not in your pt who dont get the buff
You can also deploy off your fairy in the second phase of the Rathalos EX fight. It's very useful. So, you go Selene so you have the AoE Esuna and use it to deploy off of.
I really enjoyed watching this, it was a really informative video :D Hmm.. I know AST/SCH is generally accepted as the best combo for healers, is there a time where WHM/AST or WHM/SCH are better pairings (I know there's player preference/skill or gear as possible points)? Based off of history, I remember AST wasn't worth bringing at the start of HW due how many heals that would have to be cast outweighing the card buffs for the party, also at the start of Stormblood for Deltascape, I saw a lot of WHM/AST pairings (though it just could be for prog over optimization).
I think you should say for the Celestial Opposition skill from AST that it's also extend shield duration, pretty strong on o9s for example because first damage is coming something like 31/32 sec after the fight start, it mean you can precast a shield at 5 seconds before pull, extend it and it will midicate damage without doing a shield gdc during the fight ! Still super nice video love it
How did you find your static group to do your savage raids? I'm trying to figure out how best to get into the raid scene. Love your in-depth analysis even though I'm not a healer myself, and I appreciate the level of skill at which you play the game!
can u also update the melee guide an maybe make some other class content ? i really looking forward to this since ur guides helped me back then in 2018
Thanks for the great guide. On average, how long does it usually take you and your co-healer to map out a fight effectively? Also, when in prog, do you guys tend to try to map out some stuff or do you just play it by feel?
There's a couple points where your tooltips shown don't match what you said, namely you mention that Astro's Earthly Star and Scholar's Sacred Soil have radii of 10y, but the tooltips in both cases are 8y, not 10. Astro's CO has a radius of 10y, but not Earthly Star. I double checked against the job guides for AST and SCH on the Lodestone and both are listed as 8 yalms, not 10. Edit: Oh, you have a typo on Electric Slide for your subtitles. Aside from these few small errors, it's an excellent guide, though.
Yeah it's 10 yalms oops. I think most people don't even know that and just use them based on the AOE marker since there's no accurate way to display yalms on screen but i'll mention that in the description.
what's the macro you use for Shadow Flare? you seem to place it quickly where your cursor is so i'm assuming it doesn't involve or . it looks like you're just clicking when the targeting circle appears. if so why use a macro? is there something different you're using?
i raided heavily during heaven'sward but i've always felt off balance in stormblood. it feels like the number of consecutive gcd's you can commit to dps is much lower than it was in heavensward and it's verry jarring. also as an Ast main card management feels to busy compared with heavensward. i can still heal at a high level just not as efficiently as in did in heavensward and was never able to fully adapt.
A lot of great info but I feel this is mostly just for static groups and good for them. I almost always let fairy to do their own thing since I really can't reach any more buttons.
I play bard and never really know when to optimally use troubador and minne. Ive asked my healers when they want me to use them but can never really get a good answer. As i keep pestering them, should i just try to use troubador so it covers as many mechanics as possible or try to instead use it on single really big hits? Also do you know of any uses for the hp up troubador off the top of your head? I tend to avoid using it because, from my perspective, it seems to only have a benefit after the party's been healed up for that extra hp since the song itself doesnt heal
HP Troub was good for Frictions in UWU and Head On cheese in O5. You should always try to get Magic Troubadour off though. Ideally it's up to your healers to tell you where to use it but if they aren't contributing then yes just use it in spots where it gets the most value. There are niche situations where Physical Troub is good too like in O11.
TheIceLurker Tell me about it.... I liked AST in HW but during SB I absolutely fell in love with WHM but it sucks to constantly hear how “terrible” it is. Must be nice to be a SCH main and always be OP 😭.
This video is awesome. Sadly on the reddit and other forum places and that has bled into the game. It's changed from using the most gcd that are efficient to. Only heal with your ogcd if you are using your regens as a white mage/ast you are bad.
That's not true? Every fight this tier can be 0 gcd healed. The only offset being the door boss where you only need one GCD heal in an optimized environment.
Great video.. Came back to scholar after a few years Mia. Its like half of my kit is gone, and from watching this video it seems it all got dumped to astro. As salty as I am about the changes I guess I'll have to end up leveling astro now. Scholar is very not fun now compared to heavensward.
As a main healer with changing member (raid finder&party finder) i always make sure everyone HP is enough for the next mechanic before dps-ing and preparing for the other member who fail the mechanic / die , once again if i Swift cast+raise/ hard cast raise, it's a dps loss , right? And then again, back to the core of the job, we are HEALER , just sharing opinion ❤️ (It kinda annoy me how recently, healer just spamming their offensive spell and not bother casting any healing spell, and let other member die, for what?)
Hi MOMO, I'm a SCH main player from China, this video is awesome and contains something Chinese player quiet need for Alphacsape savage, can I make a Chinese subtitle and vote this video to bilibili with the subtitle? (Most of the Chinese player can understand this video easily without subtitle but they cannot watch this video in youtube easily). If you think that is OKAY, I'll make a document contains what u mentioned in this video for those newbies and someone who wants to improve themselves.BTW, most of the Chinese player still think WHM and AST(especially WHM) are main healers and SCH is the off healer, it made me sad.
I don't know if you have been in game as long as i have ( i have been on since the re release on play station ) in that time i have been a main role healer for play style - i'm what you might call a prime healer meaning i tend to put sustaind healing out in a raid on a constant level giving the off healer time to dps and peirodicaly throw out a party regen or res (switching when aplicable this gives the whole party stability even after a big aoe or a few 1shot deaths). most people get me by request to run with them if their healer is newer or more a dps player then the run needs . while i do agree that is a great way to optimize 2 healers that want to dps i would remind you that also opens your group to more wipes and slow 1 by 1 dps kills without pick ups . 1 of the healers jobs is to make sure dps's don't die even if hit and i don't see that level of attention in a raid where at least 1 of the 2 healers doesn't focus on the job . so while this video is helpful i would suggest doing a few runs in high raids where you only do the job and then make a connecting video on how to be a prime ( primary) healer.
You can play like that if you want but it is objectively less efficient than communicating with your cohealer. Playing efficiently like this does not open you up for more wipes and I would argue actually decreases your chances to wipe as you are using 2 healing kits rather than just 1. Every PF healer I get that takes on the role of "main healer" actually ends up getting outhealed by me and I do less healing overall because my use of skills are more efficient. You can Cure 2 and Cure 1 all you want but if you're just overhealing it and using useless heals that have no impact on the raid you're just wasting your MP and potential DPS. Not trying to throw shade but based on your last comment I would assume you're the type of healer that assume just because GCD heals aren't being used you would assume that the other healer isn't healing which obviously isn't true since I could probably use only oGCD heals and outheal you. It's all about efficiency. This guide isn't made strictly made for 2 healers to DPS it's made to optimize your skills whether you're alone in PF or with a cohealer you can communicate with. But I can 100% say that if you solo heal a fight while the other healer strictly DPS' you're doing it wrong.
If someone joined my party in PF and tried to coordinate which healer would be the primary healer I would kick and block them in a heartbeat. I feel like everything in this video just went in one ear and out the other for you.
@@FFXIVMomo it is more efficient then only healing from time to time with both healers tryng to dps not only does it give every other player constant readyness for an attack , it allows for a larger lokger stream of dps out as a whole = the difference between two cups pouring drip by drip vs 1 cup pouring a heavy stream . in other games like wow ( espesially after the wrath of the litch king dlc) the idea of tryng to have two healers dps while tryng to maintain healing was optimal but this game is notably not wow the basic mechanics are different in how they effect the player character building is different and each role has specific limitations as well as each job having limitations of their own = communicating with the second healer is always a must but allowing the freedom to that second healer to do as much dps as they can while holding focus on the job makes a large large impact on damage delt . as with anything in life their is a difference between knowledge and working knowledge but far be it from me to try to give someone information i personally dont do runs where people religiously wipe and retry on a constant basis and i find that a great source of accomplishment regardless and also to add no i'm doing it as intended not needessly over complicating a simple situation
Now, do a solo queue healers guide; as this was a static group guide. Millions of players, not everyone can run with a static group ;) Also, whm getting the lalafel sized stick here lol
I liked all the information...nothing was amiss...eeeexcept, you missed like an entire healer. XD Astro in Nocturnal sect is a completely different healer but wouldn't take long to explain. A guide this in depth should still cover the changes from AST reactive HoT healing to preemptive Sheild healing with a whm. As well as possibly outlining why you might consider Diurnal sect as your more preferred method for AST healing. While in solo content you should typically stay in Diurnal as regens are far better than shields when taking your extension abilities into account allowing you to avoid using healing GCDs in roulettes. The other information was great though and needs no adjustment. I very much enjoyed your guide regardless. :)
Noct AST + WHM is very poorly designed for raid content which is why I specifically don't mention it. While you can still optimize it you're never going to get results like WHM + SCH or AST + SCH. 9/10 times you're actually better going Diurnal with a WHM than Noct unless you absolutely need the shields because Noct ASTs kit actually works against itself since you can't extend regens and your TD and CO are only for cards. Anyways the main reason I didn't mention Noct was because everything in the AST section is still relevant when using Noct aside from ASP Benefic and ASP Helios which. Nothing else changes aside from those two. (I'm assuming you have a static)
@@FFXIVMomo Good to know I might be changing up when I get into the big raids. Right now, I just hit 70 with my AST last night and I use Noct Helios to act as a preventative shield to protect from AoEs. I was wondering why you didn't cover Noct :)
i'm new to ffxiv was gonna roll a white mage as i love the HoT healing playstyle but all this talk about maximizing damage and mini-minimizing time spent healing i may as well roll a dps if i wanted to spend more time doing damage, i don't get it it all seems backwards to me, like if there isn't enough damage going out on the boss to begin with, shouldn't the damage dealers be called into question?
New to FFXIV and I wanted to remark the introduction probably should be changed. You are incredibly judgemental, confrontational and arrogant with your view of how others run their setups, particularly with regards to one healer DPSing and the other purely healing. I'm not saying others are right, I am not saying you are right, I'm too new to have an opinion either way. Just pointing out how you come across and it makes it harder than it should be to stay focused on learning from your knowledge and wisdom. In fact, my experience as a high end healer in other MMOs would lean towards that both healers should be healing and DPSing together and working to become a smooth, well oiled, machine that is efficient with both healing the raid, usage of CDs, and dealing additional, contributory damage. It is my personal belief that such playstyle affords the greatest flexibility and adaptability. However, regardless of what I think, I wouldn't dare to flat out tell someone else their play style is wrong. I might find myself having to tell someone that they aren't a good fit because of it one day, but that is for the future. In the end, if a group can make something stupid work, then it isn't stupid is it?

what's the macro you use for Shadow Flare? you seem to place it quickly where your cursor is so i'm assuming it doesn't involve or . it looks like you're just clicking when the targeting circle appears. if so why use a macro? is there something different you're using?
It's just /ac "Shadow Flare" spammed over like 15 lines
@@FFXIVMomo is there a reason or benefit to using a macro for that? Why not just use the skill regularly?
@@MerelOye It feels more fluid to me.
Ok this helps a little bit but I was wondering do you have or know someone who has a video or two on healing in 4 man content?
4 man healing doesnt have any hard content to optimise for really
i raided heavily during heaven'sward but i've always felt off balance in stormblood. it feels like the number of consecutive gcd's you can commit to dps is much lower than it was in heavensward and it's verry jarring. also as an Ast main card management feels to busy compared with heavensward. i can still heal at a high level just not as efficiently as in did in heavensward and was never able to fully adapt.
A lot of great info but I feel this is mostly just for static groups and good for them. I almost always let fairy to do their own thing since I really can't reach any more buttons.
Do you have a spreadsheet/timeline for o12s final omega?
I do but I have future stuff planned for it so i'm not going to release it yet
Thank you.
Whenever there's aoe back to back it's helpful to have HP up to make things safer. Like the meteor part of O12S M+F
I wish i had this video when i was raiding alphascape and got kicked for struggling to handle o3s and o4s.
this is pretty amazing man. i tank and still die to auto's :(. make one for buff optimization
I have more videos planned! Mainly FFlogs and buff optimization :D
*Cries in WHM*
TheIceLurker Tell me about it.... I liked AST in HW but during SB I absolutely fell in love with WHM but it sucks to constantly hear how “terrible” it is. Must be nice to be a SCH main and always be OP 😭.
This video is awesome. Sadly on the reddit and other forum places and that has bled into the game. It's changed from using the most gcd that are efficient to. Only heal with your ogcd if you are using your regens as a white mage/ast you are bad.
That's not true? Every fight this tier can be 0 gcd healed. The only offset being the door boss where you only need one GCD heal in an optimized environment.
do anyone mind telling me what he uses to see the dmg/healing done ?
Act records all damage/healing done in a fight
Great video.. Came back to scholar after a few years Mia. Its like half of my kit is gone, and from watching this video it seems it all got dumped to astro. As salty as I am about the changes I guess I'll have to end up leveling astro now. Scholar is very not fun now compared to heavensward.
wait for next healing job

LMAO
As a main healer with changing member (raid finder&party finder) i always make sure everyone HP is enough for the next mechanic before dps-ing and preparing for the other member who fail the mechanic / die , once again if i Swift cast+raise/ hard cast raise, it's a dps loss , right? And then again, back to the core of the job, we are HEALER , just sharing opinion ❤️
(It kinda annoy me how recently, healer just spamming their offensive spell and not bother casting any healing spell, and let other member die, for what?)
Sitting here and watching this has told me that healing is not for me. This is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over my head.
FFXIVMomo what program does it use to appear that hud with damage information. Thanks!
I'm watching this while running a story roulette
POG
Time to remake this? XD
Sure thing :D
@@FFXIVMomo thanks XD
Ima start forcing my greedy dps to watch this....yes i have a rotation...omg
God, I miss old AST
Look ma' Im on TV.
Im new and i dont know what is going on °_°
I don't know if you have been in game as long as i have ( i have been on since the re release on play station ) in that time i have been a main role healer for play style - i'm what you might call a prime healer meaning i tend to put sustaind healing out in a raid on a constant level giving the off healer time to dps and peirodicaly throw out a party regen or res (switching when aplicable this gives the whole party stability even after a big aoe or a few 1shot deaths). most people get me by request to run with them if their healer is newer or more a dps player then the run needs . while i do agree that is a great way to optimize 2 healers that want to dps i would remind you that also opens your group to more wipes and slow 1 by 1 dps kills without pick ups . 1 of the healers jobs is to make sure dps's don't die even if hit and i don't see that level of attention in a raid where at least 1 of the 2 healers doesn't focus on the job . so while this video is helpful i would suggest doing a few runs in high raids where you only do the job and then make a connecting video on how to be a prime ( primary) healer.
please link me your fflogs. I wana see what a primary healer looks like! :D
You're assuming it watched the video. :^)
I am sorry but you have forgotten some healing spells I main WHM and you are missing some spells there
WAIT WHAT?! Erase works on the DoT?
No, it's used for the 200 potency heal.
Yeah what Vynce said. Sorry for the misinterpretation.
I just press buttons when healing :p lol jk.. but useful video! I am soooo scared to heal savage content @_@
Now, do a solo queue healers guide; as this was a static group guide. Millions of players, not everyone can run with a static group ;)
Also, whm getting the lalafel sized stick here lol
This guide still is the same for a solo healer the only thing thats different is that youre with a healer youve never healed with before.
sooo whm is the weakest healer?
You channel kinda makes me wanna swap to healer
DPS mitigation? DPS class? you mean Damage Mitigation
DPS mitigation meaning mitigation tools that DPS have.
i'm new to ffxiv was gonna roll a white mage as i love the HoT healing playstyle but all this talk about maximizing damage and mini-minimizing time spent healing i may as well roll a dps if i wanted to spend more time doing damage, i don't get it it all seems backwards to me, like if there isn't enough damage going out on the boss to begin with, shouldn't the damage dealers be called into question?

Not as good as DHYohko's guide tbqhfam.
