  • Here are the most simple and effective ways to counter-strike after blocking a punch. These techniques are a great way to pierce the opponent's defense, after which you can land more strikes to finish the fight. Instruction by Patrick Fulop. Enjoy!

    Hello from Portugal! I really like your videos! Great job in introducing the shield block, normally, In this case I usually counter with the same arm with a side hammer fist.
    Continue creating great videos!

      Thanks for your comment, Glenn Farias, and glad you like it! Hammer fist after a shield block is a great idea indeed, as your fist is already in position to counter. Practice well :)

    We once trained with a Latino girl , and she has a wild kick as a yellow belt. She knows how to attack with good speed. The 3rd degree black belt would not give her a higher rank. We just knew better she should get promoted. Her kick has good power , and her speed can connect! Good instructors should be strict on promotion, just some cannot see who deserves more attention.

      Hi roshan, we got that one lined up for you, but it's kinda far down the line. Got
      lots more important techniques to show you for one-on-one first, and
      being great at defending against one attacker is the first step towards
      defending against many. To give you the gist of it in the meantime
      though:
      How to Defend Against Multiple Attackers
      1. Try to run if at all possible.
      2. Try to break out of the circle as quick as possible, so you "line
      them up" and effectively have to deal with only one at a time. Don't
      stay in the middle.
      3. If you get to the clinch position with an opponent, and you have good
      control, use him as a shield and point him towards the others.
      4. Don't take it to the ground, even if you're on top of one, others
      will attack.
      5. If you get taken down, get up fast, and if you can't right away, use
      the guy as a shield by keeping him tight in your full guard.
      Hope this helps!

    is there counter-strikes with kicks ?

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  Před 8 lety +1

      Hey Loki, good question, usually you will be a bit too close to kick when you block punches, since punching range is closer than kicking range, but you could use kicks to keep the opponent away before they enter your punching range. There are also many possible counters you can do after blocking a kick, and that's coming up in our next video, so stay tuned! - Patrick

      all right , can i counter-kick with a front-kick on the opposite leg of the opponent and do the punches afterwards ?

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  Před 8 lety +1

      Sure, that works. It all depends on distance and timing.

    These all work better if you incorporate foot work.. you leave your self open to any quick follow up with out it.

      Dude, I know! I’m super critical of my early work, although it’s not technically wrong, these moves can work, I feel this lesson emphasizes too much memorization, not enough concepts and improvisation, and it should definitely incorporate mobility. Check out an updated recent video on striking defense solo here, and please let me know your thoughts! czcams.com/video/rL7qoxgEsy0/video.html
      Enjoy 😊

    The Asian girl is good, she is just not executing , nor generating full power. the striking pads will move further backward if she was using more power. When in combat with a good puncher you will get hurt badly , or knocked out if that female knows real counters , and hits well!

    What happens if your opponent is low enough to go for the balls

    • @EffectiveMartialArts

      Then you should step out of range or deviate the strike by picking up your lead leg. To each technique there is a counter.
