  • Learning how to block powerful punches in a progressive manner is really important for your development as a martial artist. This is how we pressure-test the turtle block against powerful punches, to make sure our punch blocks work when it counts. Very important to go progressively and with a cooperative mindset when practicing with our partners to ensure our safety and optimal long-term progression. We will mix these techniques with other defensive strategies as well as counter-attacks afterwards. Enjoy!

    when he says "speed 60%", does he mean strike frequency 60%, or strike speed 60%? Also, at what strike speed do you achieve strike power 100%? somewhere like strike speed 30%?

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  Před 5 lety +1

      Speed would refer to strike frequency, as each individual strike speed is closely linked to strike power. F=ma. In other words, since the mass is constant, the Force generated depends on the acceleration. Hope this helps! - Patrick

    • @Roland-2001
      @Roland-2001 Před 4 lety +1

      Yes and you prevent it by counter punching and good defensive footwork. You will never be able to fully cover up with mma gloves they just too small

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  Před 4 lety

      Good question. Indeed bare fists or small gloves are harder to block, so you have to have a tighter guard, and combine with movements for dodging, deviations, or "rolling with the punch" to minimize dammage. The key is to practice slow motion with a trusted partner to start, so you can figure out the best responses using progressive resistance. Will publish a more detailed basic striking defense video soon, please stay tuned! Thanks for your comment. - Patrick

    Left hook right cross is a deadly combo to break this defense. Just stay on the stance, keep your guard up and move your head.

    • @adim00lah
      @adim00lah Před 10 měsíci

      Yeah you gotta use that evasive head movement too as you said. Cover, then duck under his punches, and come over the top with a good solid over hand right,
      czcams.com/video/WaolDsHs5OA/video.html&ab_channel=STORMCombatSystem
      And a left hook to the liver while you already down there. After that, it's a high single, and ground and pound.

      @@adim00lah Agreed except I never duck under no punches, I lean back, I wish I played peekaboo style but then again, ducking can leave you open to a knee if the punch is a faint (I still got low reflex, it's a cardio issue, hoping to fix it within next 2 years, maybe 3).
      To me the most aesthetic style of fighting is Peekaboo but it ain't no good for mma mate. You can get an elbow uppercut or a fucking knee to the head. You gotta incorporate the lean back, the straight arm blocks... or...
      Footwork. Like McGregor does... btw Mcgregors a jerk but still love the dude. Worked his ass off to become where he is at. Khabib is a brother material but dude glt everything spoonfed to him since childhood. McGregor built his legacy from scratch..pure inspiration.

      @@mayukhsen8195 Over hand right is used a lot in mma. You have to have the right timing. It's gonna be super hard to get in there with a knee, if the over hand is coming, even if you use a faint. And when I duck down, I'm still using my guard, so the knee ain't gonna do nothing.
      I use the turtle block primarily for self defense, ain't nobody using no faints in a street fight. Ground and pound works well in mma, boxing ain't gonna work on that champ. Khabib is one of the greatest fighters in mma history, and was a master of ground and pound.
      Go ahead and do that lean back shit, you gonna catching a double or a high single, and end up on your back.

    • @mayukhsen8195
      @mayukhsen8195 Před 10 měsíci

      @@adim00lah Overhand is easy to avoid. Having had over hundred streetfights (more like school fights) long before I entered muaythai I have gifted reflexes for overhands...
      Leaning back requires footwork. He won't shoot a single or double while I am out of range. I will still be in my orthodox stance, the footwork and lean back happens simultaneously. From there on it will be easy to defend a sloppy fail takedown (it will be too late before he realizes that his takedown attempt was a mistake)...
      Sparring and hard sparring is all I do in mma. Imagine it was streetfight. I will pump my fist into the back of his neck.
      I agree. Khabib is a fucking goat and I have no doubt he can beat Jon Jones. Dude outstruck McGregor and these stupid mma fans never realised it. Khabib landed more punches than McGregor (26 percent more if you wanna do the math) and the only significant punch in the match came from Khabib.
      The thing I respected about Khabib the most was his love for his religion. I am the same way, if somebody talks shit (not a debate, I am talking pure disrespect for the sake of antagonizing me) about my religion I will challenge him to a streetfight right fucking away. Cuz that's the way it should be. KHABIB IS THE OG GOAT 🐐.
      I think you should spar me (or fight me if you can manage and if you are my weight class, I won't insist if you are some lightweight) and see how that goes for you my friend. I suggest sparring. Fighting (without rules) isn't for everyone. I live in Glasgow Scotland and India (Hindustan) for 9 months of the year. Let me know where you wanna meet. No disrespect. Just wanna teach you some stuff. 😊😊😊

      @@mayukhsen8195 It's hard to avoid, if it's used as an intercepting punch, which is what I recommended. What religion do you practice, because Jesus did not teach people to fight someone over him. Jesus said to turn the other cheek.

    I won't deny the blocks work, I'm just not a fan of absorbing impact like that. To me, that guard feels too limiting, and if a person throws a high volume of punches with speed, I've found I can be blinded by my own arms and hands.

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  Před 6 lety +6

      Good point, D. Indeed you would never just stay there in a fight and eat punches like that, it is just a drill to isolate and improve our last line of striking defense. In a real situation you would block just a few punches, and then counter with strikes or a takedown, or get out of there. Also, it is a good drill to develop the ability to always keep at least one eye on your opponent while getting hit so you can better decide your next move. I recommend starting light and slow to make sure you have time to improve. Hope this helps!

    If your going 2 be teaching a self defense and you want it 2 be effective U have 2 expect 2 get hurt at least a little. Why?? Because if you have 2 defend yourself from an attack your going 2 get hit and rough up and hurt. I think in order for anything to be effective your training must include some kind of hurt similar to what it’s going 2 feel like in a real defense situation

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  Před 2 lety

      I beg to differ. You wouldn’t improve your armbar defense any more by getting your arm broken instead of tapping, right? Striking is the same, if you get touched, you know you need to adjust your defense, but getting knocked out will only give brain damage, not better defense. Hope this helps!

    If you cover up like this while sparring/fighting, you're just a punching bag with legs.

    • @EffectiveMartialArts
      @EffectiveMartialArts  Před 3 lety +2

      Of course. Using this as a strategy in a fight would be ill-advised, to say the least. This is a specific drill to develop the integrity of your last line of punching defense. In application, you would only block one or a few punches like this before disengaging or counter-attacking. Still, isolating specific situations and techniques as a drill is an essential part of training. Hope this helps.

      agreed... in street fights I have found this to be possibly be the most effective blocking. Take one or two while closing the distance or throwing hard or hard straights to the T zone. Then take down to good old open hand ground and pound. Usually this is what worked in my apprehensions
