That entire sequence is mental. Every Leaf player on the ice (excluding Bert) touched that puck. I don't think anyone outside of Matthews moved more then 10 feet with the puck. Just a bunch of open and available passes against Boston's top line. covering 200' in 10 seconds. Absolutly mental game winning goal.

Does anyone know the specifics on the closing hand on puck rule? Just by watching the replay it looks like he closed his hand to catch it and then directs it to the ice. I just thought it wasn’t allowed?

He’s not allowed to hold the puck, he caught it and dropped it immediately onto his stick. It’s allowed.
Yeah you can close your hand to catch it but not skate with it in your hand. If you catch and release it’s safe as long as your release isn’t a hand pass to a teammate
Here’s what the NHL Rulebook states about handling the puck in Rule 67.2:
“67.2 Minor Penalty - Player - A player shall be permitted to catch the puck out of the air but must immediately place it or knock it down to the ice. A player shall be assessed a minor penalty for “closing his hand on the puck”:
(i) If he catches it and skates with it, either to avoid a check or to gain a territorial advantage over his opponent;
(ii) If he places his hand over the puck while it is on the ice in order to conceal it from or prevent an opponent from playing the puck;”

Best game as a Leaf. 1G, 2 🍎, 70% in the faceoff circle, was actually throwing some hits, blocked shots, and helped keep the puck out on that late netfront scramble.
But he now needs to find a way to do this every game, or it doesn't matter.

It’s not a hand pass. Learn the rules. Defence do it to keep it in the zone as well. It was caught and instantly dropped to himself. Not another teammate. That’s why it counted ..
